Welcome to the Guildford Summer Festival 2015 I am delighted to introduce the wonderfully broad programme of events planned for this year’s Guildford Summer Festival, which runs from 12th June until 8th August 2015. The programme includes traditional events such as the Town Centre Cycle Races, the Raft Race, town centre Craft Markets and, for the cricket fans amongst us, the Guildford Cricket Festival. I am also very proud that Guildford has been chosen to host the Armed Forces Day National Event this year. We are planning an exciting line-up of family focused activities on Saturday 27 June, with free entry to watch the High Street military parade and spectacular show in Stoke Park. There will of course also be many other events across the borough, so whether your interest is music, drama, sport, walking or taking part in community events, I am sure you will find something to enjoy. Let us hope the weather is kind to us and the whole family can enjoy the full range of diverse events, many of which I am hoping to attend myself – it is going to be a busy summer! Details of all events are contained in this brochure. Let me take this opportunity to thank all the event organisers, sponsors and contributors for their efforts, without them the Guildford Summer Festival would not be possible.

Councillor Nikki Nelson-Smith Mayor of Guildford

Saturday 27 June 2015

Armed Forces Day National Event 2015 - spectacular free celebration Armed Forces Day is an annual national celebration to raise awareness, show support and celebrate the contribution of our servicemen and women, past and present. Guildford will be the focus for the whole country on 27 June, as we help local people and the wider community thank everyone working in our Armed Forces - the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force.

Guildford Borough Council and partners are planning an exciting line-up of family-focused activities for about 60,000 people, including:

• special service in Guildford Cathedral at 9.30am • hundreds of Armed Forces personnel will join veterans and cadets in the grand military parade at 11.30am - from the bottom of the High Street to Stoke Park

• spectacular show in Stoke Park with stalls and static displays from about 10.30am, with music and entertainment until 7.30pm when the event closes.

Entry is free and no tickets are required to watch the parade or enter the Stoke Park event. There was a public ballot for tickets to attend the Cathedral service, as places are limited. We will announce more acts and detailed information nearer the time. Here is a taste of things to enjoy. Live action in Stoke Park starts at 1pm. Military highlights include:

• The Royal Signals White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team • The Royal Navy ‘Raiders’ Parachute Display Team • The Royal Air Force Queen’s Colour Squadron • The Band of the Royal Marines, Massed Bands, Apache and Merlin Helicopters • An Infantry Combat Battle Display. Live entertainment during the event comes from:

• West End Kidz, Rock Choir, Tenor Thomas Hobbs, Guildford College Performing Arts • Firefly live music and poetry, and • Choir Magic provide a local flavour for the show. Please join us - and our very special guests - for a great and memorable day! For more information and the latest details go to or call 0330 1230088
