Welcome to the Guildford Summer Festival 2019 It is a real pleasure to bring you the 2019 events programme for Guildford Summer Festival. As always it is packed with so many things to do, it will keep you busy all summer long.

Guildford Summer Festival would not be the same without the popular events which include the Craft Market in the High Street, the Guildford Lions Raft Race on the River Wey, quality theatre in several outdoor locations; and of course the Cricket Festival and Beer Festival.

Get your pens at the ready to mark off which events you don’t want to miss! There is everything from cycling on the Hogs Back, theatre, art exhibitions, a beach, beer, cricket, jousting, miniature railway, lots of cheese, and even more chilli to raft building, raft sailing (and possibly raft sinking!), crafts to buy, free Sunday afternoon concerts, choral music, films, shopping, gardening, animals, outdoor theatre, indoor performances and so much more.

There are events for children and some just for the grown-ups; one off events, and events you can revisit time and time again.

This just wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of all the event organisers, sponsors and contributors, which makes the Guildford Summer Festival the huge success that it is and I am sure you will join me in thanking them all.

Book to visit Guildford’s very Age Restrictions Apply own hydro-electric power station. This renewable energy generation scheme is located in a grade II listed building on the River Wey. Find out about the history of the mill and the how the turbine works on this guided tour.

Keeper Team will provide www.merristwoodevents.co.uk information on the different species, and allow visitors to meet some of the animals. We aim to educate visitors on subjects such as conservation, breeding projects and bio-diversity.

Historic Guildford in the heart of Surrey Guildford Borough Council manages and cares for a portfolio of heritage buildings of significant and varying historic interest, protected by listed status within conservation areas.

GUILDFORD CASTLE - Castle Street, Guildford GU1 3SX Visit Guildford Castle and head to the top of the Great Tower for a 360 degree panoramic view of Guildford and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Inside you’ll find a model of the original castle circa 1300, and interpretation panels tracing its history to the present day.

It houses Guildford House Gallery: a changing exhibition space offering a varied programme of art and craft shows, workshops and talks; a craft gift shop; Tourist Information Centre and café, all within a character historic setting.

OPENING TIMES: Monday to Saturday: 10am to 4.45pm, Sun: 11am to 4pm (May - Sept). FREE ADMISSION THE BREW HOUSE: Located in the courtyard of Guildford House, shows exhibitions of emerging artists.

THE GUILDHALL - High Street, Guildford GU1 3AA The Guildhall is a 16th/17th century building of great historic interest. Formerly a courtroom and council chamber, the ground floor is of Tudor origin. The classical front of the building is dominated by a magnificent bracket clock made in 1683.

PRE-BOOKED TOURS AVAILABLE: please call 01483 444751 for availability and pricing. £2 ADULTS, £1 CHILD MEDIEVAL UNDERCROFT - 72 High St, Guildford GU1 3HE The medieval Undercroft is one of the finest examples in the country. Dating from the end of the 13th century, this stone vaulted semi-basement is thought to have been a merchant’s shop, selling wine or expensive cloths or silk.

WANBOROUGH BARN Westwood Lane, Wanborough GU3 2JR Wanborough Barn is one of the most important medieval barns in England. Dating from 1388, it was built by the Cisterian monks of Waverley Abbey. The barn holds a permanent display of local and historic interest as well as special events and exhibitions throughout the summer.

The Maritime Art Group An exhibition by The Maritime Art Group: twelve artists featuring paintings of the coast, ships and the sea. Coffee Time Talks - Maritime Art This July let our Coffee Time Talk whisk you away to the sea as we find out more about some of the coastal paintings in our exhibition by the Maritime Art Group.

‘Round the Hogs Back’ Cycle Ride

Departs: Guildford Borough Council Car Park, Millmead, Guildford, GU2 4BB 9.30am Free for all. Family Friendly.

Guildford Cycle Campaign (G - BUG) is organising a leisurely 24 mile cycle ride along quiet lanes and offroad cycle tracks. The ride will pass through Shalford, Binscombe, Puttenham, Runfold to Tongham then back to Guildford via the ‘Christmas Pie Trail’.

Coffee at Puttenham and (late) pub lunch (optional) back at Guildford.
