open on Tuesday 5 October 2004. In a simple

ribbon-cutting ceremony, Club President Alan

Jones did the honours, witnessed by a large crowd of members and staff.

Up And Running

Mr Jones paid tribute to all who were involved in the project, particularly the Development Sub-Committee headed by Treasurer Glenn Bryce and the F&B Sub-Committee headed by Vice President Edwin Khew, General Manager Brian Toft and his team, and Project Manager John Ong. He also thanked the architects, contractors and suppliers who did

a sterling Job of completing the project on time and within the approved budget of $1.82 million.

Mr Jones said the kitchen renovation was part of the first phase of the Club's development in accordance with the Master Plan.

During the reception, members who came to witness the opening were treated to a tour of the kitchen facilities, as were many small

groups who came for the tours conducted by Head of F&B Services Carsten Kjeldmann

during the weekend of 2 and 3 October. Following the commissioning of the kitchen, new menus have been introduced in the two

restaurants which are now enjoying increased

patronage. Members are advised that the cockage waiver in the Churchill Room during the renovation period will end with effect from 31 October.

During the three-month renovation, we peeled off the outer layers of 165 tonnes hardcore and debris. Removed all solid old objects of machinery. Washed and disinfected the area thoroughly using TCP (Teamwork, Communication and Professionalism). Then, added 42,000 kilograms of cement and 51,000 kilograms of screed and 100 cubic meters of water. Placed them In a blender and

used 2600 kilowatts of electricity to mix. Removed the mixture and spread evenly onto 13,000 bricks, 10,000 floor tiles and 13,000 wall tiles using over 20,000 man-hours.

ladiesevents October Ladies Luncheon

Colours Of India Thursday 14 October 2004 To mark the celebration of Deepavall at this October Ladies Luncheon, we were treated

to a beautiful display of Indian fashion designs.

From the house of Ogaan, with their five very well established fashion designers, we saw

contemporary and traditional evening wear as well as casual wear, it ranged from very traditional Indian to the most modem Western

styles. The most exquisite designs and fabrics were shown and they were elegantly presented our gorgeous models. There was certainly wmething for everyone's taste and occasion! A vibrant finale was greeted by a thunderous applause. The hairstyles, done by Mosche International, were lovely as were their make

up, taken care of by Bobbi Brown. Prema Thiele and Gerti Iwatake were the

successful organisers and the Indian buffet

put on by the Club was incredibly delicious. For making all this happen, we thank our sponsors first of all Mrs Manizah Jumabhoy and Mrs Alice Chong, without them it would

not have been possible. We also enjoyed the sponsorship by Bobbi Brown, Mosche International and our Club for items in the

ladies goodie bag. A great day was had by all.

Arabian Nights Were Never Quite Like This! What a night it was! The Club Party 2004, according to the fortune teller, was going to break attendance records. It almost did. The official count was 782 members and

their guests zoomed into the Tanglin oasis on 16 October, the second highest attendance on record.

There were "sheikhs" in their flowing robes, mingling with western-garbed "foreigners",

smoking the hookah, and imbibing all night. There was food galore, and music of every variety. Many members and staff dressed for the occasion, including two barechested "strangers" in red fezzes claiming to be from Istanbul.

Apart from the beautiful dancing damsels from the casbah, the other big surprises were the lucky draw prizes such as two business class tickets from Qatar Airways to any

destination in their global system (won by John Moore and M 0 Cheong), a special chefs table for four

lucky diners (won by Vincent Chen), and several magnums of rare vintage wine, Proseccos, etc etc. But whether you won

any prizes or not, it was indeed a night to remember. Until next year!

A huge Thank You to all the prize donors, and especially to our Club staff who worked so hard to make the party

a huge success.

There was dancing any way you please!

Sign in...and let the genie know you're here!

Snakes alive! But what a charmer!!

Now if you want to talk petrodollars, I'm listening.

We could have danced all night! Another magnum, another winner.

There's happiness all round all night. Two "visitors" from Istanbul? Hooked on a hookah.

Where's that other sheikh with the

megabucks?
