RIDE YOUR OWN
TOUR DE ÆRØ Bring your own bike with you or rent one from one of the six bike rental outlets on the island – see page 46 for contact details. If your legs get tired, you can always put your bike on the back of a bus; this service is free of charge. There are a number of places on the island where you can pick up detailed cycling maps showing all the good routes, fishing spots, shelters and so on. You can also find helpful hints and inspiration online at visitaeroe.com/cycling.
BUTIK BLÅBÆR IN ÆRØSKØBING Ærø is simply made for cycling excursions and holidays. The island has fully 150 km of fine cycling roads with no – or only light – traffic, and you can actually follow a signposted 100 km route without cycling the same stretch of road twice. The tour of the island comprises encounters with idyllic hollyhocks, beautiful countryside, timber-framed houses
and grazing cattle – all set against the deep blue sea as a constant backdrop. You can follow cycle routes 91 and 92, as well as 17.5 km of the breathtaking Baltic Sea Route (N8). Moreover, you can take on the “Ærø Alps”, following the sign posted routes of 20, 50 and 100 km that Flying Heroes, the local cycling club, has put together.
WE LOOK AFTER YOU AND YOUR WHEELS We want you, as a cyclist, to feel welcome and in good hands on Ærø, so we have established a network of more than 20 Bike Friends on the island. Bike friends are places where you can always find a pump, a puncture repair kit, drink ing water and sometimes – access to a toilet. For a list of all Bike Friends and their addresses, see page 46.
PSST! DID YOU KNOW ... ... that the Baltic Sea Route covers fully 820 km, running from the middle of Jutland to the south of Zealand? The route leads through a variety of Danish regions, including Southern Jutland and the islands of Ærø, Funen and Lolland-Falster. A whole 820 km of charm on two wheels! BØLGEMOSE AT BREGNINGE
