Pieper joins Chamber office with Washburn SBDC

Laurie Pieper, Ph.D., brings 20 years of experience as a small business owner to her position as Advisor with the Kansas Small Business Development Center. Pieper has wide-ranging professional experience from educator to businesswoman. As owner of The Morning Star Bed & Breakfast in Manhattan, she employed her skills at everything from business manager to wedding officiant.
Manhattan delegation meetings in DC and on Capitol Hill
Pieper has worked with Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce on the CVB Advisory Board and has been similarly involved with Riley County Master Gardeners and Manhattan Arts Center. She is also currently a Tai Chi instructor at Meadowlark Hills. Her career includes teaching philosophy at K-State, the University of Oregon and UCLA. Washburn University Kansas SBDC has its main office in Topeka, with an Outreach Center at the Manhattan Chamber office. As local advisor, Pieper is a valuable resource for assistance in starting a business, assistance with on-going business concerns, and information about applying for business loans.

The Association of the United States Army Annual Meeting was held in Washington, D.C. in Oct. Highlights included a speech on the outlook for military budgeting in the coming years from Principal Undersecretary of Defense (Comptroller) John Conger, at our Annual Chapter Luncheon. Members of the Governor’s Military Council met with lobbyist Steve Hyjek for an update on Defense Authorizations and Force Strength/End Strength and how this impacts Kansas. The Manhattan delegation spent a day on Capitol Hill visiting with the staff of our Congressional delegations, and our Chapter Big Red One Social was well attended by several past soldiers and spouses of the First Infantry Division.
