Visit Manhattan is pleased to announce Amber Wilhelm as the Convention Sales Manager. She will begin responsibilities March 2, 2020. Amber is a Kansas State University graduate, holding a degree in Hospitality Management with an emphasis in Convention, Meeting & Event Management. While a student at Kansas State, she received the “Extraordinary Student Award.” This award is given to a student who have been successful in their academic pursuits while facing opposition or significant obstacles. Amber’s work history with special events and meetings, along with her passion for the Manhattan community and ability to work with people will serve her well as her responsibilities are to attract associations, corporate and government business to Manhattan.

I-rish You Were Here for all the St. Patrick’s Day Fun Pop on your green attire and celebrate with a Belfast Bomber at O’Malley’s, a pint o’ Guinness at Kite’s or a bit of Bailey’s at Rock-a-Belly. Or grab a Pepsi and help line the parade route with smiles and waves. Join the Saint Patrick’s celebration this year in Manhattan … to the 'Ville! Join the fun in Aggieville as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The 42nd annual celebration is set to take place a few days earlier, March 14 on Moro Street. Races start at 10 a.m. and the parade is at 1 p.m. Running enthusiast enjoy the 10-kilometer race, one of Manhattan’s oldest running events, first introduced in 1979. This race attracts several thousand runners, many who are gearing up for the Bill Snyder Half Marathon in May. Marvin Hachmiester 10K race benefits the Special Olympics and the Marvin Hachmeister Scholarship Fund. This event celebrates the positive spirit and dedication of Marvin Hachmeister. He is our local hero, who has competed in the race for 39 years and last year celebrated his 88 birthday during the race. Not up for the 10k? Join in on the fun and enjoy the Shamrock 2-mile fun run/walk, register online for this race. Both races include the opportunity to purchase a green shamrock top hat or green mustache to run the race in. The Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade organized by Aggieville merchants takes place in the afternoon starting at 1 p.m. and goes down Moro Street. This parade is for the young and old, a true family event!

Later that night find the Grand Celtic Music Tour at the Columbian Theatre in Wamego at 6:30 p.m. Celebrate the love of Celtic culture at in the Swogger Gallery including the popular whisky tasting and continue with an evening full of traditional Celtic music, dance, and storytelling. Great Prairie Chicken Booming Outing Know someone with a love for the outdoors? The Flint Hills Discover Center is hosting Greater Prairie-Chicken Booming Tour with the first date starting March 14 through April 11. Big Apple Performances to The Little Apple® McCain Auditorium hosts two back to back Aquilla Theatre performances based on classic works of literature, The Odyssey and 1984. Aquila Theatre seeks to provide opportunities for all to see great works on the stage. March Madness descends on Manhattan March will bring madness to sports in Manhattan. K-State men’s and women’s basketball rounds out their regular season, 2A High School State Championship Basketball returns to the Bramlage octagon and K-State baseball heats up with multiple games played at home this March. Men’s basketball completes their regular season with two games in March. March 4 is at Oklahoma State and March 7 closes the season against Iowa State in Bramlage Coliseum. The Cats will then move on to the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City, March 11-14. The tournament win would mean a seed into the NCAA (March Madness) tournament. Be sure to cheer on the Cats as they round out their season. K-State Women’s Basketball finishes their regular season March 3 at Oklahoma State and March 8 at home against University of Kansas in Bramlage. Women’s basketball will move onto the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, March 11-14. Cheer on high school basketball March 11-14 at Bramlage Coliseum. 2A State
Fishin’ for a Good Time – King Kat Tournament Trail If you are up for a fishing challenge this is the tournament for you! The King Kat Tournament Trail on April 18 allows for catfish anglers to showcase their skills. Early registration closes April 3. The King Kat Tournament Trail is one of the largest catfish tournament organizations in the nation. Tuttle Creek Lake is one of the twelve tournament locations held throughout the year with the Classic being held in September or October. Tuttle Creek Fishing Report says
Basketball has returned to Manhattan. The battle for the 2A State Championship will start with eight girls’ teams playing on March 11 and eight boys’ teams playing on March 12. Those teams who win will play on Friday, alternating between girls’ and boys’ games. Saturday, the championship game will crown with a boys and girls basketball 2A state victor. The Manhattan community is excited to welcome this tournament with more than 200 dedicated volunteers. Come out to Bramlage, purchase tickets and some snacks at the concessions area and enjoy some great basketball. The Bat Cats’ season is heating up complete with peanuts and crackerjacks. K-State Baseball team is sliding into a busy month with several games at the Tointon Family Stadium as well as on the road. This is an evening of fun for the whole family.
