Vista Drive-In is as central to Manhattan’s aura as the letters atop Bluemont Hill. In 2014, the restaurant celebrated 50 years of operation at 1911 Tuttle Creek Boulevard, and keeps charging ahead as one of Manhattan’s landmark spots. The long-established, old-school “burger joint” has been as much a part of K-State students’ impromptu date nights and study breaks as the student union (K-State Union slightly older).

As central as Vista has been to Manhattan’s long progression, it’s relative isolation from more congested business districts leaves Brad and Karen Streeter without regular interaction to fellow business owners. Manhattan Area Chamber has produced just the right antidote for such an occasion, with the Chamber of Commerce’s flurry of events such as Business After Hours. Karen Streeter, chair of the Chamber’s Small Business Council, lists small business support, education and advocacy as very important Chamber assets. “It’s a way to give people information they need,” she states. “It’s important for small business people who just wouldn’t have the first notion where to turn ... we try to get information that people can utilize. “It’s nice to know we can make a difference. Everybody working together makes the community better.”
