Bringing together three events, Brew 2 Shoe, UPC’s Little Apple Music Festival, and the newest event, Hail the Ale, which will bring visitors to town to compete as well as enjoy our beautiful City Park. st 1-2 Augu

Lace up your running shoes to be a part of the Brew 2 Shoe early on Saturday morning, August 2nd. Pick up your runners packet at the GTM Family Center on Friday evening, 7-9 PM. Stay for

the pasta feed (runners only – and you MUST preregister for the meal with race registration) and stay for the Arts in the Park Music venue Friday night featuring the Band, “Run Boy Run.”

After you complete the 5K or 10K Brew 2 Shoe event Saturday morning, shower and change and head back to the GTM Family Center at City Park to participate in the Home Brew Competition, Hail the Ale, and microbrewery sampling, from around the region. Workshops and sampling will be conducted from 1-4 PM.

$25 Day Pass - includes 4oz samples of microbrews (limited to the first 300 tickets sold) $35 Night Pass - includes BBQ meal and three 16oz brews $50 All day pass - includes 4oz samples of microbrews, BBQ meal and three 16oz brews. (limited to the first 250 tickets sold) Must be 21 or older.

Proceeds from the night pass ticket sales will benefit Arts in the Park 2015.

Arts in the Park in July

Grab your family and friends and relax to the sounds of music this July. Friday night concerts are held on the Larry Norvell Band Stage in City Park and are free to the public.

July 11- Randy McAllister, American singer-songwriter at 8:00 p.m.

July 18- Manhattan Municipal Band at 7:30 p.m.

July 25- Lights, a Journey tribute band at 8:00 p.m.

Ice Age Imperials

Have you noticed things are getting cooler around here? Have you noticed the size of creatures that are enjoying these cooler temps? Make plans now to get to the Flint Hills Discovery Center to see their new Temporary exhibit featuring the Ice Age Imperials. Learn about what life was like in this region during this time period millions of years ago. Try your hand with the 3-D Mastodon puzzle – it is much more complicated than you think – but when completed – you will have a great idea as to how big the Mastodon’s were! Touch the fossils that are more than 500 million years old. Yes – this exhibit brings the Ice Age to live with the saber-toothed cats, giant sloth, Woolley mammoth and more! Hurry is at the ice completely melts and will be gone on September 14! Thanks to the Flint Hills Discovery Center and ESB for bringing this exhibit to life! One of the Nation’s Best – Tuttle Creek Lake

It’s summer and millions of American’s flock to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes for fun on the water. Corps lakes offer boating, swimming, fishing, paddling, hunting, bicycling, hiking, birding, camping, picnicking and sightseeing. Corps lakes are popular for recreation but they also provide water storage, flood control, hydroelectric power and drinking water for cities nearby. Corps lakes offer history, scenery and activities you may not expect.

Did you know? Tuttle Creek was recently selected as one of our Nation’s top 10 Army Corp lakes! Other lakes to receive this honor are located in Alaska, California, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Go to www.recreation.gov for complete detail on this honor. Then grab your bike, tent, fishing pole, binoculars and get out and enjoy Kansas’ top lake!

For the Love of Sky – Flint Hills Landscapes

The Kansas skies are expansive – and Kansas artisans have captured our magnificent landscapes and skies. Plan now for a get away to Strecker-Nelson Art Gallery – Kansas’s oldest commercial gallery, to take in this show. Featuring artists Zak Barnes, James Borger, Clive Fullager, Kristin Goering, Lisa Grossman, Brian Hinkle, James Jones, Cally Krallman, Joseph Loganbill, Judith Mackey and Glenda Taylor’s porcelain bowls.

Just as our skies change quickly – so does this show! Make plans now – as this exhibit is only here through August 20th.

Make plans now to enjoy this two day event to indulge in fine wine and culinary creations at Harry’s on July 23-24. Enjoy great evenings at Harry’s with over 25 top-tier wines arranged by country of origin, food to match each table, along with passed hors d’oeuvres from Harry’s and Bourbon and Baker’s kitchen teams. A five course dinner will be served in the main dining room of Harry’s featuring special guest Ronnie Sanders, President and Founder of Vine Street Imports. Thank you Stampede Volunteers!

Manhattan has hosted Stampede for the past 19 years, putting Tuttle Creek State Park and The Little Apple® on the map for Country Artists and fans! This great event would not take place without the help of countless volunteers.

The Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau would like to thank the Flint Hills Job Corps Student Government students and RSVP volunteers for their assistance in putting together over 3000 welcome bags that were distributed to campers and hotel guests.

Awarding Ribbons and Cowboy Thrills!

It’s July and time for the Riley County Fair and Kaw Valley Rodeo. Activities begin in on Thursday, July 24th with the Riley Co. Fair Parade featuring 4-H clubs from across the County. Parade begins on Poyntz Ave at 6 p.m.

The Kaw Valley Rodeo opens the gates to entertain with thrills and spills as professional cowboys compete at Wells Arena. Thursday night is Military Appreciation night as well as kid’s night. Rodeo begins at 8 p.m.

Friday, July 25th, join the Blue Valley Pork Producers Barbeque for a great meal!

Check out the 4-H projects including clothing, arts and handiwork and photography inside Pottorf Hall; watch the livestock shows in Hurlbert Barn from 7-10 p.m., ride rides, and hoot and holler for the rodeo in Wells Arena from 7-10 p.m.

Saturday, July 26th’s schedule is a full day of judging. The rabbit show begins at 8 a.m., goats at 10 a.m., horticulture at 10 a.m., photography at 1 p.m., swine at 7 p.m., and the usual rides and games run from 6-11 p.m. This is the final night of the rodeo, kicking off at 8 p.m.

Sunday the 27th brings more judging throughout the day as well as all your favorite carnival rides and games from.

Monday, July 28th the fair fun all comes to an end. Livestock auction begins at 7 p.m. Come out and support those 4-Hr’s as they have worked hard on their livestock projects. Carnival ride thrills for the final evening.

Sporting events in Manhattan bring in dollars to our community. Manhattan Area Sports Council (MASC) has members representing every sporting group, Manhattan Parks & Rec, KState Athletic Department, as well as s hoteliers serving together to promote, acquire and support a diversity of sporting programs and events. If you would like to become a MVP (Manhattan Volunteer Program) at a sports event, email sports@manhattan.org

Take me out to the Ball Game…..

5A Baseball fans came to cheer on their teams in May. Even though the last out was called a couple of months ago and the newly crowned Baseball Champs, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Softball Champs, Wichita Bishop Carroll, of the Kansas State High School 5A Baseball and Softball Tournament are still being recognized as champs in their hometown. We continue to celebrate the efforts of our volunteers who made this tournament spectacular.

The Manhattan CVB thanks the many volunteers who assisted in making the State Tournament a success on May 29-30.

We especially send a huge shout –out of THANKS to Rod Franz, his wife Karen, daughter and grandchildren who made it a family affair to organize the tournament, welcome officials and fans. Without their dedication to the youth of Kansas – this Championship tournament would be just another game. To all of our volunteers – THANK YOU!

Presented by Little Apple Toyota and the Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Colbert Charity Classic will take place July 23-26. Amateurs and pros are invited to sign up.

Entry deadline for the tournament is July 8th. The 1st place purse is guaranteed to be at least $20,000.
