Are You Ready for Some Football? Starting Jan. 18th visitors will experience a new temporary exhibit at the Flint Hills Discovery Center that highlights a favorite Manhattan past time. Football brings 3,000 square feet of interactive, hands-on science to the whole family until June 1st! Test your throwing skills in the passing cage, try to match the speed of an NFL running back, and learn the ideal trajectory for kicking a field goal. Bring your best Wildcat game face and all your game-day excitement while you learn about the science that makes it all possible.
Explore this exhibit introducing visitors to the science, mathematics and technology behind the game, and how these aspects relate to our everyday lives. Don’t forget to take in the rest of the Flint Hills experience with the permanent collections and the immersive experience. This is a perfect way to spend a January day.

Winter got you down? There’s no need for that! Get to the City Park Ice Rink in Wefald Pavilion through Feb. 28th. You don’t have to look good doing it- you may spend more time on the ice than circling the rink… But we promise it’ll be a grand old time. Don’t miss the FREE SKATE day on Jan. 20th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Look for this new statue at 4th and Bluemont! The artist is Tom Ford and the piece is titled “Peace Offering on the Blue,” representing a warrior from the Kaw Nation. He wears historically accurate dress and is offering a pipe as a gesture of peace. Ford’s piece was selected by the Manhattan Arts and Humanities Advisory Board from among 34 applicants. Maquettes, or smaller versions of the statue are available for purchase through Strecker-Nelson Art Gallery. The price is $4,500 and $1,200 of that will be donated back to the city with each purchase.
