The first session of Leadership Manhattan is January 9th and will be held at Meadowlark Hills. A Welcome Reception will be held January 9th at the Blue Hills Room at 5:30 p.m. for the new class and alumni of Future Manhattan and Leadership Manhattan. A total of five sessions will be culminating in the class graduation scheduled for April 17, 2013
at the Manhattan Country Club. The mission of Leadership Manhattan is to ensure the vitality of our community by providing a continuous source of motivated leaders who are educated about the community, its challenges and opportunities, as well as trained and inspired to assume leadership roles in the Manhattan community at all levels. Chamber Forms Small Business Council
Did you know that 92% of the Chambers members are businesses with 50 employees or less? To better serve the Chamber members and in support of the small business community, the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the creation of the Small Business Council.
The purpose of the Small Business Council is to maintain and continually improve the business climate in the Manhattan area. The Council serves as an advocate and sounding board for small business owners; provides educational opportu-
nities and training on issues specifically affecting small businesses; acts as a voice for small business and offers opportunities for development through networking and Chamber programs. Goals & Objectives • Conduit for issues and concerns of small business to the Chamber Board of Directors, City of Manhattan, Riley County and Pottawatomie County • Gather input about the needs and concerns of the community’s small businesses to help the Chamber make informed
decisions about policies, regulations and member services. • To better represent the needs and concerns of the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce membership, 92% of which have 50 or fewer employees. • Create and review a webpage with helpful information/resources for small businesses. • Develop marketing opportunities for small, locally owned businesses Continued on page 3
