In mid-January, more than 250 business leaders from Junction City, Manhattan, Wamego, Geary, Pottawatomie and Riley County came together for the annual 2017 Regional Leaders Retreat. The main objective of the Regional Leaders Retreat is to strategize and conceptualize how the region can unite and improve the overall quality of place and life. The Chamber would like to thank Platinum sponsor Sink, Gordon & Associates. Presentations included many relevant topics: Results and actions of the 2016 Target Advisory Groups; Regional Community Economic Impact Analysis: Assessing the Impacts of Army Personnel Reductions at Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Riley Status and Future; Strategy to Update the Joint Land Use Study for the Flint Hills Region; Report from the Governor's Military Council; 2016 Inter-Region Visit report; Future of Multi-modal Transportation in the Flint Hills; Kansas State University Economic Impact for Riley, Geary and Pottawatomie Counties; and 5,000 jobs: $450M Payroll. C. Clyde Jones was the first dean of the Kansas State University College of Business Administration, and is a longtime, supportive Chamber member and community volunteer. Jones moved to Manhattan in 1960 to start the business department within the College of Arts and Sciences as a prelude to the CBA. Jones is an eager supporter to Shepherd’s Crossing among many other philanthropic efforts. He lists vital programs initiated by the Chamber that include general community meeting place along with Business After Hours and networking as benefits that keep him connected to the community. “I’ve had the opportunity to continue to be connected to the business community through the Chamber,” Jones says. “I have been a very active community volunteer for many, many years. “There’s no better vehicle in the private sector than the Chamber for keeping me connected and giving me an opportunity to serve a community which I love.”
