K-State Fans ... Are You Ready? Football is almost here. It comes from every Wildcat, on every street corner. Manhattan practically breathes it.

Final preparations are underway for Purple Power Play in the Park, the annual season kickoff that celebrates community support for the defending Big 12 Champion Kansas State Wildcats. This twoday event takes place Aug. 28-29 starting at 6pm, in City Park due to construction on Poyntz Ave. Let your hair down with the K-State Classy Cats and Bates Dance Studio performers. Jam out with the Mikey Needleman Band on Wednesday evening—and whether it’s nostalgic or you’re a diehard student fan, rally behind the Wildcats in a community pep rally at 8:00 on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Remember the three Big 12 Championships gathered in 2012 and 2013? “Threemaw” and “Title Town” caused residents to smile uncontrollably and brag to complete strangers. K-State’s baseball team, for example, captured its first baseball conference title since 1933. Along with the football Continued on page 2

team and the men’s basketball team, these title champions will undoubtedly draw large, excited crowds as they enter the 2013/2014 season.

It’s not just students supporting their favorite athletes and events; alumni, parents of students, friends of students, staff, sports fanatics, sports writers, photographers and more all flock to this modern university tucked into the Kansas prairie. Each person attending the football game, or entering the Octagon of Doom (Bramlage Coliseum) or Tointon Family Stadium is spending visitor dollars in this town. Those staying overnight are contributing to the guest tax, which funds the efforts of the Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau.
