Presented by: Jill Trego,VP Talent, Culture and HR, Kansas State University Foundation Four years ago, KSU Foundation was poised to grow the organization by 25 percent but had 15 percent annual turnover and couldn't hire top talent. Fundraising positions remained open for lengthy periods and talent across departments was leaving for growth opportunity and better pay elsewhere. One of the levers we exercised was a change in our organizational culture and approach to employee engagement. This Success in 60 session will provide a snapshot of the evolution the Foundation has undergone that has increased employee engagement by 24 percent and dramatically lowered time to fill positions and annual turnover rates. Miller stresses the importance for Downtown Manhattan to preserve its genuine small shop, boutique-type look as a true differentiator among similarly-sized small cities. Miller joined Rotary early in her business career and witnessed the many doors that opened, and included leading to the Chamber board. In 2015, Miller was named Citizen of the Year for the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce.
“That’s the essence of what we’re creating here and it’s an incredible thing,” Miller said. “It takes constant work, constant vision; and that’s where the Chamber comes in. The floral business gets me all over the community. This town has become like a small community for me. This is truly my family.
The mission of the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce is to foster a changing environment for business success that enhances the quality of life in our region. We market the region, advocate for business, and provide services to our members and customers.

Steve’s Floral at the corner of 3rd Street and Poyntz Avenue has become such a regular staple of Downtown Manhattan that it’s difficult to remember a time the decorative flower shop wasn’t there. This year, owner Jan Miller celebrates 30 years on Poyntz. The store goes hand-in-hand with Manhattan Town Center, as both opened in the spring of 1987.

“The benefits I have received by being a Chamber member have just been invaluable. They go back to networking. Sometimes it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. That introduction can happen through the Chamber.” Be part of the community. Be part of the Chamber.
