The road to Manassas Park becoming an independent city started in 1955, when the first homes were built as a subdivision in Prince William County. A year later, a group of residents formed a civic association, and a year after that, town status was petitioned.
On July 1, 1975, after 600 acres of land was annexed from Prince William County, Manassas Park was officially incorporated as an independent city. 50 years later, Manassas Park is still the last town in the Commonwealth of Virginia to become an independent city. While we are proud to be the “youngest” city in Virginia, we are also inspired by all that we have achieved in the last 50 years and excited to see what the future holds.
