The Department of Parks and Recreation maintains Costello Park, the Manassas Park Community Center, Signal Hill Park, Signal Bay Waterpark, Manassas Park City Library, Blooms Park, the City’s historical sites, and block parks. The Community Center features two full basketball courts, an indoor pool, fitness rooms, and rental spaces including a 3,480 sq. ft. banquet hall.

The City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to the provision of quality leisure services for the residents of Manassas Park. Over the years, through the many changes the City has endured, the Department of Parks and Recreation has responded to the growing needs of the community by continuing to support the Governing Body’s vision to be the “Premier Northern Virginia Community to live, work, and raise a family”.

POLICIES

Registration

Registration is on a “first come, first serve basis.” You will only be notified if the class/program is cancelled. Late registrations may be accepted if space is available with no reduction in fee. We encourage registering online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com.

Forms & Fees

Each class/program must be accompanied by payment. You may register and pay for classes online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com or in person at the Community Center located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111. Checks are to be made payable to “City of Manassas Park.” There is a $50 returned check fee for any check returned by the bank. All credit card transactions are assessed a 3% fee.

Cancellations

The Department of Parks and Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class/ program which does not meet the minimum enrollment. All programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 5 days prior to the program start date. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY!

Non-City Residents

Most of the fee based classes/programs are available to non-city residents at an additional fee. Please see the individual class/program for additional information.

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather the Department of Parks and Recreation will follow the local government cancellation schedule. If classes/programs are cancelled, every attempt will be made to re-schedule the class/program.

Does your event require multiple rooms? Our building is perfect for events that need break out rooms or dressing rooms. Blooms Park is a passive park with 5+ miles of challenging and rough terrian trails. Blooms Park emphasizes a connection with nature. Wildlife including deer, eagles, foxes, turkeys, snakes, and more roam the park. Visitors should exercise caution when visiting Blooms Park.

DOG PARK INFORMATION

Costello Park

The Manassas Park Dog Park features a large and small dog run for your pets to exercise and interact in a safe environment with other dogs

• Hours: 8:00am-Dusk

• Dogs must be current on all vaccinations. Proof of a current rabies vaccination and license is required upon request of a police or animal control officer. Tags may serve as proof.

• Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the dog park.

• For the safety of your dog(s) and other park visitors, choke, prong (pinch), and spike collars are strictly prohibited. If you use these types of collars, remove them before entering the park.

• No children under the age of 16 are permitted unless accompanied by an adult.

• Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises. Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression.

• Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the park.

• Dogs over six months must be spayed or neutered.

• Dog owners must be in dog park and within view of their dogs at all times.

• Please do not bring dog food into the park.

• Owner must clean up after dog.

• Failure to abide by the park rules may result in loss of privileges or owners may be ticketed.

• Use of dog park is at owners’ and pets’ risk.

• Please be advised Leash Laws in effect per City Code §5-22. Dogs must be on leash when not inside dog park.

INFORMATION

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 13-acre monument site is located in the eastern end of the City, adjacent to Signal Hill Park. Signal Hill is open year round from 7:30am until dusk.

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 8-acre Civil War encampment is located in the Blooms Crossing subdivision adjacent to Cougar Elementary School.

Included in the Camp Carondelet nomination is a Civil War cemetery located in the direct vicinity of Camp Carondelet in the Blooms Crossing subdivision.

A key structure in the Civil War, this is located in the last few remaining acres of the once Union Mill Park near the VRE lot and General’s Ridge Golf Course. This site is not accessible to the general public.

All parks and facilities are open to the public and may be scheduled for specific use through the Parks and Recreation Department. The rental application is a request only, not a guarantee. A Rental Request Application is required for all facility reservations. Special Permits, in addition to the Field Use Application, may be required for after hours events, special events, or group use. Payment must accompany a Rental Request Application. The Department does not accept tentative reservations. Cancellations must be made at least 10 days in advance in order to receive a refund for outdoor rentals. Applications are available at the Manassas Park Community Center. All rentals are subject to availability and must be booked and paid for 10 days in advance of event. Deposits are a one time refundable fee. Restrictions may apply.

Field Application: Athletic fields and park grounds are available for rental between March 15th – November 15th to registered leagues and group users. Cost for permits vary on the type of usage and the duration of the request. All field usage requests are accepted beginning January 1st of each calendar year.

Ab Workout

Get ready for some great abdominal exercises to strengthen the muscles of the core, spine, and torso. Improve your body’s overall functional strength, balance, and coordination!

Aquasize

This class provides a low-impact, full body exercise while helping you tone your muscles.

Beginner Yoga

Beginners Yoga will cover the fundamentals of yoga poses and breathing techniques. This class will also focus on strength and flexibility as well as breath awareness and relaxation.

Body Sculpting

A lightweight dumbbell workout moved to the beat of the music. Burn calories as you flow through a variety of exercises to sculpt and tone your body! You’ll notice improvements in your muscle tone, posture, balance, and strength.

Boot Camp

Boot Camp is designed for those desiring to increase cardiovascular fitness and increase muscular strength more efficiently. Boot Camp is for the beginner to the advanced enthusiast. Work out in a team environment while challenging yourselves with others to reach your personal fitness goals.

Buddy Yoga

Buddy Yoga will focus on the foundations of yoga while providing plenty of modifications for physically or cognitively disabled adults.

Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga is a soothing and slow-paced class designed to help ease the body and mind into various postures without the intensity found in other styles of yoga. This practice focuses on relaxation and mindfulness, making it perfect for those looking to reduce stress, improve flexibility, and enhance overall well-being. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, Gentle Yoga provides a welcoming environment to unwind and rejuvenate.

Kickboxing

This exciting, fast paced, upbeat class is a fusion of boxing, martial arts, and aerobics, all performed rhythmically to music.

Restorative Aquafit

This low impact aqua class uses gentle movements that will help increase flexibility, range of motion, and strength.

Senior Yoga

This gentle yoga class is for individuals 60 years of age and up. Senior yoga will help to increase mobility, inspire tranquility, and promote an overall sense of well being.

Functional Strength

This class focuses on exercises that mimic everyday movements, aimed to improve strength, balance, and mobility.

Zumba®

ZUMBA® is a program that fuses Latin and International music and dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that help to tone and sculpt the body. It provides a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Yogalates

Yogalates is a dynamic fusion of yoga and Pilates that combines the best of both practices. This class emphasizes core strength, flexibility, and balance, offering a full-body workout that tones muscles while promoting relaxation and mindfulness. Whether you’re looking to build strength, improve posture, or enhance your overall fitness, Yogalates provides a balanced approach to achieving your wellness goals.

Water Walking

Like any water aerobic exercise, water walking is easy on the joints. The water’s buoyancy supports the body’s weight, which reduces stress on the joints and minimizes pain. Water provides 12 times the resistance of air, so as you walk, you’re really strengthening and building muscle.

Sport Specific Speed & Performance Training

This class is designed for individuals, small groups, or teams who are interested in increasing their overall performance on the athletic field through the use of speed and strength training drills and concepts. Get a leg up on the competition by enhancing your overall performance level in the off-season.

(Ages 6 months-3 years) In this class, a parent is in the water with the child. This class is ideal for children who aren’t comfortable in water. Play, sing songs, and learn the basics of swimming and water safety! 30 minutes. 6 lessons.

Preschool Level 1

(Ages 3-5) Child must be able to leave parent willingly. Parents are not in the water with child. This class is for children who have not yet learned to put their face in the water. They will be introduced to basic swimming skills such as blowing bubbles, floating, and putting their faces/foreheads in the water.

Preschool Level 2

(Ages 3-5) Parents are not in the water with child. Children starting in this level should be comfortable putting their face in the water for at least 3-4 seconds and be able to control forward movement in the water.

Preschool Level 3

(Ages 3-5) Parents are not in the water with children. Children should be able to swim the length of the beach area of our pool. This level introduces rhythmic breathing and focuses on developing correct arm and leg control.

School Age Level 1

(Ages 5-12) Children should be able to leave parents willingly and participate in a group setting. This class is an introduction to water safety and basic swim skills.

(Ages 5-12) Children starting in this level should be comfortable with putting their face in the water for at least 3-4 seconds and be able to control forward movement in the water.

(Ages 5-12) Children in this level can swim at least one length of the pool on their own without assistance, have some rhythmic breathing skills and can float on their back & front for 5 seconds.

School Age Level 4

(Ages 5-12) Prior to starting this class, children should be able to swim 2 continuous laps of both freestyle (front crawl) and back stroke (back crawl). They will be introduced to all 6 Red Cross swimming strokes: Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breast stroke, Side stroke, Elementary Back stroke and the Butterfly stroke. They will also learn proper flip turns, diving skills, and swim team techniques. 40 minutes. 6 lessons.

School Age Level 5/6

(Ages 5-12) This level is for children who would like to learn competitive swimming skills, specialized drills and overall water fitness. Students should have mastered all 6 Red Cross swimming strokes prior to enrollment. 40 minutes. 6 lessons.

Adult Beginner Lessons

(Ages 16+) Afraid of the water? Never learned how to swim? Then this is the class for you! Our swim instructor will start with the basics and go from there.

Fast Sessions

Fast Sessions are 4 lessons a week for 2 weeks Monday through Thursday mornings until the end of July. These accelerated sessions are perfect for swimmers looking to build confidence and improve skills quickly over a short period. Please see calendar for levels available.

MPCC Indoor Pool Information

The Manassas Park Community Center natatorium is an NCAA short course certified indoor pool consisting of eight 25 yard lanes, a zero depth entry, and a spa. The pool temperature is maintained at a comfortable 82˚F. Kick boards, pull buoys, and life jackets for patrons are available for use while at the facility. Certain areas of the pool may not be open for public swimming due to swim lessons, group exercise classes, or league rentals.

Signal Bay Water Park (SBWP)

Extended Care follows the licensing standards of the State of Virginia, Department of Social Services. Our Before and After School Care is for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade attending Manassas Park City Schools. We offer themed activities, which include arts and crafts, games, sports, and swimming in a fun, supervised environment! At no additional cost, some teacher work days, and some holidays are covered by full day care from 6:00am-7:00pm. Camp participants are thrust back in time to ancient Japan, where they must learn the skills of the Ninja warriors. Manassas Park Teen Passport

Welcome to the Teen Passport specifically for teens in 6th-12th grades! The Teen Passport membership is $20.00 per month. Teens can earn points toward their Teen Passport each month with good grades, community service, and by volunteering. When a teen earns 20 points, their next month is FREE!

Passport Includes: Access to the gym, pool, recreational programs, instructional classes, and more! Plus take advantage of the Teen Center, featuring computers, a TV, PS4, Xbox, foosball, and a pool table!

No Passport? No Problem! We want every teen to be able to take advantage of all our programs! Non-members may enroll in any class individually or hang out in the Teen Center by paying the $2.00 drop-in rate.

Teen ID Policy: Teens between ages 12-15, including those without memberships, will need to be issued a Community Center Teen ID in order to access the facility without a parent or guardian. Teens will be required to leave their ID at the front desk when they enter the building and retrieve it when they exit the building. Teens who do not retrieve their ID when exiting the building must pay a $5.00 drop-in on their next visit.

Do you need a little extra help with homework? Our Recreation Leaders are here to help you succeed in school! Bring your questions to us, and we will work together to help you understand your homework or prepare for a test.

Mindfulness

Have you ever thought about embracing the moment and staying present? Our instructors will guide you in building mindfulness by teaching you how to stay aware of your feelings, thoughts, and surroundings. We’ll provide everything you need for journaling, plus take-home activities to help you practice mindfulness in your daily life.

Walking Club

If you are not a big fan of running or playing sports, but still want to exercise, then we have the perfect workout for you - Walking! Did you know that walking can have similar benefits to running? ◊Naginata◊

(Ages 14+) Naginata is an ancient Japanese weapon used by Samurai men and women. This class is taught by Sensei Djinn and will teach you the martial art form of Atarashii Naginata. All experience levels welcome. Loaner equipment is available.

$65 one-time registration fee is required. Sessions are held monthly. Sunday class will meet every other week. $40/Month

◊WRCB Teen Karate◊

(Ages 13-19) This class is for students with or without prior training. With emphasis on Courtesy, Self -Discipline, Respect, Spatial awareness, Focus, and Goal setting skills students will learn a mixture of several different art forms. The program is combined with our Academic Excellence program for maximization of your child’s learning experience. We will also be tracking their progress at home and grades at school with our Student ID card, Notice of Intent to Promote, and Black Belt Club. This is a Belt class from white to black with testing two to four times a year. For uniforms and equipment, contact Master Geoff.

◊WRCB Bayside Karate Class◊

(Ages 13+) This class is for students with or without prior training. Bayside Karate is a mixture of Karate, Kenpo, Chi’na, Judo, and Jui Jitsu. With emphasis on Self -Discipline, Spatial awareness, and Critical Thinking. This class is geared to self-defense. with pressure points and joint locks, and not sport. The class is taught by Master Geoff Thompson. A fifth degree Black Belt, he has trained over 500 students in Martial Arts for more than 25 years. This is a Belt class from white to black with testing two to four times a year. For uniforms and equipment, contact Master Geoff.

(Ages 13+) This class is an abridged version of the Adult Karate class. With emphasis on Situational Awareness, Escape Strategies and Personal Safety, students will learn simple concepts & techniques that will allow them to neutralize an opponent so that they can escape. Students will gain confidence in their increased awareness and ability to navigate potentially harmful situations. This is NOT a Belt class, and no uniform is required.

◊WRCB Beginners Stage Combat Class◊

(Ages 13-19) Stage Combat is a safe staged fight used to advance a plot on stage and in film. Ages 13yrs & up with or without theatrical goals or background are welcome. The class will be on basic unarmed and rapier (Fencing) with emphasis on performing, weapons skills, movement & safety. The class is taught by Master Geoff Thompson, a professional actor, SAFD recognized Advanced Actor Combatant, & choreographer. A fifth degree Black Belt, he has trained children & young adults in Martial Arts & Theatrical Stage Combat for over 20 years. He is also, and has been, a Stage Combat instructor/ director for the International Renaissance Festivals for over 15 years. His years of experience on stage and film helped him bring excitement and working knowledge to the class. Equipment provided by instructor.

Hand Dancing

(Age 18 +) Are you ready for “the best seven steps you’ll ever take”? The 7 Step Hand Dance Academy specializes in the African American art form of hand dancing- combining sophisticated, slick moves with rhythmic footwork that allows dancers to blend their talent into showcase artistry. All classes (except swim lessons) are included FREE of charge with the Senior Passport.

Our Senior Passport Program is for individuals 60 years of age and older. Membership is $20 per month for non-residents of Manassas Park and $10 per month for residents. Membership includes all the benefits of our Basic Membership, as well as access to all senior programs (except swim lessons) at no additional charge. Enjoy our socials, the wellness area, pool, and more! Non-members may enroll in any of these classes individually by paying the $2/R or $4/NR daily drop-in rate. (Ages 17+)

This one of a kind, special program is a self-facilitated adult social group. This program is designed to meet the needs of individuals with developmental/cognitive disabilities. Daily activities include arts and crafts, fitness classes, movies, computer, and video games. Buddies will also have access to the wellness center and the pool.
