Gift of the Future

The New Natural

Future Present

Floios studio is not your standard jewellery studio. It’s a little different because they create handmade sustainable jewellery from recycled silver recovered from electronic waste. Which closely correlates with their claim that they are not designers, but “design foragers”.

We could say that nature is the ultimate designer, one that simply cannot be approached nor reproached. So the studio does not work to improve on nature, but works to reflect and reproduce that which nature provides – naturally; to make us aware of the beauty of nature through faithful, beautiful, environmentally responsible jewellery.

All of the objects they produce are precision 3D scanned and can be produced in larger series, using only recycled silver and eco-friendly packaging materials, all traceable.

Future Present is fluid and flexible, two key virtues that will surely guide, inform and characterise what we produce, how we produce, and how we use, consume and reuse in the days and years ahead. So Future Present is functionally flexible and accommodating – it’s a sculpture, a broach, a bracelet; it’s a cypress picked in early winter in Ljubljana.

Similarly, their jewellery box is a minimalistic lava stone (designed by Icelandic nature) that takes on a variety of roles – as a jewellery box, a pedestal, a sculptural decoration that replaces the houseplant that needs a regular watering we may or may not be up to providing. Because as cities grow and nature both retreats and changes, our connection with the natural environment serves as a key source of physical nourishment and spiritual inspiration. Because the future is flexible, recycled, and positively transformative.
