Kubis
The Kubis light is a basic geometrical object – a cube. The cube in itself is a clean and complete form, so much so it constitutes, in most any space, an elegant design object. The idea is to create a light that not only illuminates the space around it, but that can stand alone as a design object.
When completely closed, Kubis has a strong, monumental decorative presence; as a flexible, creative light source it gives the user the freedom to adjust it, to play with the light and shadow it produces. The cube is cut, halved along a diagonal axis, producing two halves, each with its own light source, and opens up providing an array of looks and lighting possibilities. You might say it’s the Venus flytrap of lighting, only friendlier.
It hangs suspended using metal rods and wires, which makes it highly flexible and adjustable. As a closed cube it has a meditative quality, while open it generates a seemingly endless series of both forms and illumination scenarios.
Today, our contemporary way of life demands certain qualities, like personalisation, possibilities and sustainability. With this in mind, Kubis is made from recycled stainless steel, which is exceedingly durable and sustainable. In fact, the vast majority of the world’s stainless steel products are recycled after they have served their original (or previous) life purpose.
