C’est avec autodérision et sensibilité que Claude Frisoni porte un regard sur un long moment de sa vie : 35 ans passés au Luxembourg. Entre la France et le Grand-Duché, ses origines et sa vie au quotidien, il se considère comme un « monstre, hybride, une sorte de citoyen bâtard » qui n’hésite pas à dire les choses, à dévoiler des « secrets », à livrer des anecdotes. Tendresse, passion et agacements sont au rendez-vous de ce spectacle où, seul en scène, dirigé par Fabienne Zimmer, Claude Frisoni témoigne de son attachement au Luxembourg. Des sentiments qui trouvent écho chez beaucoup d’étrangers au Grand-Duché.
Pièce de répertoire, Bérénice de Jean Racine est une œuvre où répond au manque d’action le style enchanteur du texte. Titus doit choisir entre sa carrière d’empereur et la femme qui l’aime : il sacrifie son amour. Le temps d’une nuit, Bérénice apprend la nouvelle de la bouche d’Antiochus et, résignée, elle quitte le palais et l’Italie… Un classique au temps quasi immobile qui a séduit Carole Lorang et Mani Muller dont les dernières productions - Weird scenes inside the gold mine, Tout le monde veut vivre d’Hanokh Levin, La maison de Bernarda Alba de Federico García Lorca - ont tous eu du succès auprès de la critique et du public.
With self-mockery and sensitivity, Claude Frisoni takes a look at a long moment in his life: 35 years spent in Luxembourg. Caught between France and the Grand Duchy, his roots and his everyday life, he considers himself a “monster, a hybrid, a sort of bastard citizen”, who has no qualms in saying things, uncovering “secrets” and sharing anecdotes. Affection, passion and irritation all play their part in this show where, alone on stage and directed by Fabienne Zimmer, Claude Frisoni demonstrates his attachment to Luxembourg. Feelings that will resonate with many foreigners in the Grand Duchy.
A repertoire piece, Jean Racine’s Berenice is a work where the charming style of the text makes up for the lack of action. Titus has to choose between his career as Emperor and the woman who loves him: he sacrifices his love. In the space of one night, Berenice hears the news from Antiochus and resignedly leaves the palace and Italy… A timeless classic which captivated Carole Lorang and Mani Muller, whose recent productions, Weird scenes inside the gold mine, Hanokh Levin’s Everyone wants to live and The house of Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca, were all acclaimed by critics and audiences alike.

he Grand Théâtre is putting on Joël Pommerat’s play La Réunification des deux Corées (The Reunification of the Two Koreas). Under this enigmatic title, which preserves all the mystery of the play, a compilation of 20 or so love stories takes place. The stage, plunged into darkness, with a fusion of rhythms, bathed in mist, penetrated by light, drawing subtle or explicit patterns and boundaries between the characters, literally clutches at us and leads us to the very heart of infinite love, the everyday love of ordinary people. Here the spectator experiences impossible love, the love that doesn’t happen, that never will happen. It took all the talent of a great author and director to be able to talk about that state, that of love that is closer to unlove, to an unhappy love affair. Without complacency but with savage humour, Joël Pommerat depicts atrocious situations that sublimate ordinary romances, everyday heroes embodied here by the actors; in short, they are talking about us. Inspired by the scenario of Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage, The Reunification of the Two Koreas reaffirms its cinematographic dimensions. Indeed, Joël Pommerat states that “the theatre can maintain its great capacity for poetry and invention and at the same time compete with the cinema in terms of its quest for reality”; this play is a convincing example of that. The theatre company is outstanding, with each member of the cast participating in transmitting – and sublimating – through heart-rending sentimental situations, the reality of human nature. The music and decors also play vital roles, enhancing the dramaturgy of each of the sketches.
