ack when he was a teenager, Renaud Capuçon, a native of Chambéry (France), was propel led onto the musical stage. It was at the renowned Festival de Verbier in Switzerland that the young violinist got his first break, the key to the big time! In 2000, he was referred to as a “Rising star” and “New talent of the year” at the Victoires de la Musique festival; five years later, he was named “Instrumental soloist of the year”. Having been invited to perform with the most prestigious orchestras of Europe and America, under such world-renowned conductors as Hans Graf, Seiji Ozawa, Jeffrey Tate and Kurt Masur, Renaud Capuçon gained a very broad repertoire: Mozart, Beethoven, Korngold, but also Dutilleux and Ligeti. Whether playing in a concert with a large orchestra, or performing chamber music, which he delights in, Renaud Capuçon says that he “… feels a need to feed from these different musical approaches which make his life so fascinating”. In just ten years, he has recorded more than 12 CDs! For years, Renaud Capuçon, the violinist, and Gautier, his brother, the cellist, travelled the world giving outstanding performances together. But one day, they decided to cut the family ties in order to pursue their careers separately, only playing together on exceptional occasions, during which they wowed their audiences. Nowadays, his faithful companion, his partner in crime as it were, is the Guarneri del Gesù of 1737 known as “Panette”. Purchased in 2005 by Banca della Svizzera Italiana (BSI), this legendary instrument, which used to belong to Isaac Stern, is now his: “This violin fulfils all my expectations and my dreams! Now I only play with it. It brings out amazing colours every day… It is impossible to explain; it is a kind of metaphysical bond with the sound, a bond of flesh and emotion which can only be expressed in music.” His marriage to Laurence Ferrari, anchor woman on France’s TF1 channel, did not change his way of life, nor his playing. Renaud Capuçon has his feet planted firmly on the ground and his head full of music. His commanding presence and his brilliant and moving interpretations reflect a great talent and tremendous composure. The programme of this charity concert orga nised by SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde asbl with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, under the baton of Emmanuel Krivine, is dedicated to Beethoven, with the Concerto for violin in D major (opus 61), “the best thought out of all concer tos… where the violinist must be a man of stature as well as a great musician” (Adrian Boult), and Mahler, whose 10th Symphony, which remains unfinished owing to the untimely death of its composer, is an unusual work, projecting a depth of anguish that is poignantly beautiful. ès son adolescence, ce natif de Chambéry (France) a été propulsé sur la scène musicale. C’est au célèbre Festival de Verbier, en Suisse, que le violoniste prend son envol. Un sésame pour la cour des grands ! En 2000, il est nommé « Rising star » et « Nouveau talent de l’année » aux Victoires de la Musique puis « Soliste instrumental de l’année » en 2005. Invité par les orchestres les plus prestigieux d’Europe et d’Amérique, les plus grands chefs internationaux comme Hans Graf, Seiji Ozawa, Jeffrey Tate, Kurt Masur, Renaud Capuçon possède un large répertoire : Mozart, Beethoven, Korngold mais aussi Dutilleux et Ligeti. En concert, comme en musique de chambre, dont il est un passionné, Renaud Capuçon « a besoin de [se] nourrir de ces différentes approches musicales qui rendent [sa] vie passionnante ». En dix ans, il a enregistré plus de 12 CD ! Durant des années, Renaud, le violoniste, et Gautier, son frère, le violoncelliste, parcourent le monde, offrant un duo musical de choix. Mais avec le temps, ils décident de couper le cordon fraternel afin d’avancer pour mieux se retrouver lors de moments d’exception, véritables moments de grâce ! de « Panette ». Acquis en 2005 par la Banque Suisse Italienne (BSI), cet instrument mythique, qui appartenait à Isaac Stern, est à présent le sien : « Ce violon correspond parfaitement à mes attentes et à mes rêves ! Je ne joue plus qu’avec lui. Il me propose chaque jour des couleurs... Impossible à expliquer ; c’est un rapport métaphysique avec le son, un rapport charnel et émotionnel qui ne peut se traduire qu’en musique. » Son mariage avec Laurence Ferrari, la star du JT de TF1, n’a pas changé sa façon de vivre et de jouer. Renaud Capuçon a les pieds sur terre et la musique dans la tête. Sa présence souveraine et ses interprétations brillantes et chaleureuses sont le reflet d’un grand talent à la force tranquille. Le programme de ce concert de bienfaisance, organisé par SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde asbl avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg et placé sous la direction d’Emmanuel Krivine, est consacré à Beethoven avec le Concerto pour violon en ré majeur (op. 61), « le plus réfléchi des concertos où le violoniste doit être un grand homme tout autant qu’un grand musicien » (Adrian Boult) et Mahler, dont la 10e Symphonie restée inachevée en raison de la mort inopinée de son compositeur demeure une œuvre inhabituelle, porteuse d’une profonde douleur ô combien poignante de beauté.
