I’d like to start by introducing you to the updated Vision and Mission for Dorset Chamber. The Vision can be found in the “About” section on our website and clearly states our ambitions as the accredited Chamber of Commerce for the county of Dorset, incorporating the unitary authority of Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
Our message is simple. Our Vision is: “A vibrant and prosperous Dorset business community that enhances the quality of life for all.” Underpinning this is our Mission: “To drive the growth and prosperity of businesses as the county’s leading business support and representative organisation.” This is a clear and redefined statement of our purpose as the County Chamber for Dorset.
Some quick information for employers:

The National Living Wage (payable to workers aged 21 and above) will increase from £11.44 to £12.21 an hour. There are also new requirements for businesses around recycling as part of the Government’s Simpler Recycling scheme, aimed at simplifying recycling for businesses. If you have over 10 full-time staff, businesses must now separate recyclable materials and food waste from your refuse. If you have fewer than 10 staff, you’ll need to implement this by April 2027. Visit your local council’s website for more information.
Finally, the Dorset LEP closed at the end of March, and the responsibility for economic development and growth now sits within each council. We’ve been working closely with both councils to ensure the business voice is clearly heard, and we are looking forward to working with both Dorset and BCP Councils. I am also delighted to say that Dorset Council has become a Dorset Chamber Platinum Business Partner, and this will help support our future work together.
I hope you enjoy this month’s magazine.

Many companies are now using AI to record and summarise meetings or to create action points without transcribing the meeting entirely. Using such tools can certainly be beneficial for businesses as AI efficiently documents discussions, resulting in better recordkeeping, however, AI impacts data privacy.
There must be an appropriate lawful basis for data processing. Businesses must consider what legal basis can be relied on for the use of AI in meetings. It is necessary to consider whether express consent of participants is required, and if so, when? Alternatively, can a business rely on legitimate interests? Businesses will need to undertake thorough assessments to understand the risks and appropriate mitigation. All personal data needs to be processed fairly and in a transparent manner in relation to the data subject.
Where AI uses already AI-generated information as its source material, it can be difficult to assess who is the controller in respect of personal data. Generative AI can also be inaccurate; transcriptions may not capture context or tone in discussions, potentially resulting in misinterpretation.
Recording entire meetings creates a vast quantity of data which must be stored securely. This should be considered because data subjects can make a subject access request (DSAR) to access their personal data held by a business. Businesses will need to find the data subject’s personal data held and assess whether this should be disclosed. Once a controller receives a DSAR, data cannot usually be deleted except as part of routine business procedures, and it should be noted that intentional destruction
of DSAR material under section 173 of the Data Protection Act 2018 is a criminal offence. Businesses will need to consider how long they will retain the data for.
Transcripts created by AI tools may capture informal or impulsive comments, which attendees might not wish to be recorded. Using such technology may result in people being less willing to express their opinions during frank discussions and this may, in turn, frustrate business developments or the resolution of difficult issues where open conversation as to strategies, risks, or blame is required.
Additionally, businesses must consider whether transcriptions are likely to capture sensitive Special Category data, which requires extra protection, and whether the AI carries a risk of determining bias or discrimination. Businesses may also have to consider further obligations if they wish to use AI to process data concerning children.
Business will need to ensure they:
• have carefully documented the decision to use AI, which should be based on an evidenced argument that AI is appropriate;
• ensure compliance with relevant data protection laws;
• analyse the risks which using AI transcription tools may bring, including data breaches or misuse, and how these can be mitigated; and
• ensure their policies, procedures, and privacy notice address the use of AI.
If you would like further advice, please get in touch with our Corporate & Commercial team by emailing online.enquiries@ la-law.com or calling 01202 786188.

Associate in the Corporate and Commercial team at Lester Aldridge.
It should be considered how personal data will be shared and whether this may result in international transfers, for example if the AI provider is based overseas.

This season AFC Bournemouth has adapted its EDI strategy in an effort to create more impact around its work within this area. The aim is to allow more time for the business to review and amend policy, create sustainable and meaningful partnerships and work with its supporter groups to better understand how we can improve the experience of AFC Bournemouth for women.
The season long themes are based on areas of underrepresentation, when we compare our diversity data to that of our local community. The overall goal is to create a more inclusive and diverse club that is representative of our local community.
This year’s season long EDI theme has been focused on celebrating women, and we have had a number of engagements from across our organisation which have helped up to highlight this message; Campaigns around women’s safety and violence against women and girls have allowed us to use the power of football to create change within our society.
Partnerships with key external stakeholders such BCP Council, Dorset Police and Bournemouth university have allowed us to expand the year long theme into our local community. The partnerships have created a platform for us to host sexism and misogyny workshops, VAWG training and create more
opportunities for girls to play football.
Internally, we have delivered a number of workshops and training sessions around VAWG, sexism and misogyny, taken a deeper look into our workforce and recruitment diversity data and reviewed HR and recruitment policies based on our findings.
AFC Bournemouth is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in everything we do and will continue to work towards creating a more inclusive and diverse stadium, workforce and club.

In today’s fast-paced digital economy, businesses across Dorset are increasingly recognising the power of data and digital innovation to drive growth, efficiency, and resilience. From cloud-based systems to AIdriven analytics, the digital revolution is no longer a future ambition — it’s a present-day necessity.
Local businesses are investing in smarter IT infrastructure to streamline operations, enhance customer experiences, and make data-driven decisions. Cybersecurity, too, has become a boardroom priority, as threats grow more sophisticated, and compliance requirements tighten.
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the backbone of the region’s economy, are leveraging digital tools to compete on a national and global stage. Whether it’s e-commerce platforms, CRM systems, or digital marketing, the right technology is helping Dorset companies remain agile in an evolving landscape.
But transformation isn’t just about tech — it’s about culture. Upskilling staff, embracing innovation, and fostering a digital mindset are key to unlocking long-term success.
As Dorset continues to grow as a hub for innovation and enterprise, the digital future offers a wealth of opportunities. The businesses that adapt and invest today will be the ones that thrive tomorrow.
Employers in Dorset have less than 15 months to prepare for compulsory HMRC reporting on payroll expenses and benefits-in-kind.
“This is going to cause a serious administrative headache to employers –many are unprepared,” warned Joanna Gander, Associate Director at UK top 10 accountancy and advisory firm Azets.
Azets has Dorset offices in Poole and Blandford.
“Given the clear scope for reporting mistakes, it might be best for employers to introduce voluntary payrolling from the tax year 2025/26 to iron out any teething problems before go-live in the new tax year 2026/27. Pull out
“We are talking about people’s taxable income here – it is not a matter which employers can duck out through ignorance or disinclination; the train is hurtling along the track.
“HMRC wants expenses and benefits-inkind on payroll declared in the digital moment,
as it were, from April 2026; collection of income tax will be in real time, usually every month, rather than once a year.”
Employers must report expenses and benefits-in-kind, such as company cars and private medical insurance, to HMRC every year in a P11D form.
The employer pays Class 1A National Insurance of 13.8%, rising to 15% in 2025/26 on the benefit value, and the employee has to declare that on their tax return so it is assigned to their tax code for them to pay tax on that element.
Trepidation from businesses about the impending changes was evident in a special Azets webinar on preparing for mandatory payrolling of benefits-inkind – nearly 570 employers attended, with 50-plus questions asked.
reporting system they can look back over 12 months to see what the costs were.”
There are two things you cannot payroll voluntarily at the moment, she said.
These are beneficial loans, including overdrawn directors’ loans accounts and living accommodation provided to employees – these remain reportable on a P11D form at the end of the tax year.
Azets’ webinar poll, with responses from the majority of attendees, showed that nearly half of were considering implementation on a voluntary basis from this April, with nearly 36% holding off until mandatory introduction and 14% already on payroll.
Asked if they feel prepared, nearly 69% of employers were “reasonably confident” but may need further help and support, with 20% confident they know what to do and just over 11% stating they needed assistance because they were “not at all prepared”.
Joanna added: “The key question for employers is whether their payroll software will be user friendly and capable of dealing with real-time reporting in relation to this wholesale change – they will need to know in advance about expenses and benefits-in-kind going through the books, whereas on the current
Announcements in the Autumn Budget confirmed that the mandatory payrolling of beneficial loans and living accommodation will be delayed beyond April 2026 but it will be possible to report these benefits on a voluntary basis from April 2026.
All other benefits will be subject to mandatory payrolling.
Example: If a benefit-in-kind with a monthly value of £120 is included in the payroll, this will result in a basic rate taxpayer employee paying tax on the benefit of £24 and the employer paying £18 in Class 1A NICs in real time (based on the increased rate of employer NICs of 15%).

Chartered Builders, Greendale Construction Limited, has announced its highest turnover of £20.4 million in its 34 years of trading, attributing a pivotal part of this achievement to the firm’s continued investment in its staff and training. With a significant increase of 38%, 2023-24 saw the Poole founded company mark a monumental milestone following the previous year’s return to profitability.
Rob Hooker, Director, Greendale Construction, commented: “A combination of strategic changes, a risk-averse approach to business, and continuing to expand our operating area eastwards into Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey and the M3 corridor, has contributed to Greendale’s growth and record
turnover. Crucially however, it is through the hard work and dedication of our very adaptable staff, who help us successfully deliver a diverse range of first-class projects.
“We have long recognised the importance of cultivating a skilled, knowledgeable and fulfilled workforce, believing that investing in training and professional development is the foundation of our growth and success. Over the years, we have established strong apprenticeship and graduate schemes, offering opportunities for our employees to build their careers within the company. Additionally, we support our staff with a range of safety and mental health training courses, ensuring employees are equipped with the
knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the ever-evolving construction industry.”
Greendale has also taken proactive steps to adapt to changing economic conditions. Despite the challenges presented by fluctuating political and economic climates, the company has implemented strategies to navigate industry challenges and maintain consistent profitability.
Rob Hooker, continued: “We are excited about the future. With an impressive portfolio covering all sectors, we’re particularly proud of our work within the growing heritage sector. Greendale has helped restore and maintain buildings of historic importance for future generations to enjoy, including most recently, Poole Museum, Scaplans Court, Uppark House and Dorchester’s Corn Exchange. For 2025 & 2026, The Dolphin has chosen to partner with two local charities that work for the good of young people: Mosaic – Supporting Bereaved Children and MYTime Young Carers.
MYTime Young Carers aims to level the playing field for young carers between the ages of 5 and 25. An estimated 1,000,000 young carers are living in the UK, many of whom receive little to no support from their schools or the local authorities.
Krista Cartlidge, CEO of MYTime Young Carers said, “We are absolutely thrilled to announce our two-year partnership with The Dolphin. It’s been fantastic to see plans already taking shape and to witness just how attentive and proactive they are in their support for young carers. Their enthusiasm and creative fundraising ideas show a real commitment to making a difference, and we can’t wait to see the impact we can create together!”
Mosaic also works to support young people and their families, offering support to those who are going through bereavement in Dorset. The work Mosaic does is much-needed, as approximately 78% of 11-16 year olds will experience the death of a close relative or friend.
John Grinnell, Centre Manager for The Dolphin said, “It’s a great privilege to be in a position to support local charities with our time and resources, including the provision of physical space inside The Dolphin.
“We have chosen to support MYTime Young Carers and Mosaic for 2025-2026 as we feel that all young people deserve an equal chance to succeed and thrive, no matter
their circumstances. We’re proud to invest in the lives of young people, as the future of our town depends on the next generation.
“We’re looking forward to a fruitful partnership with both charities, supporting their fundraising and awareness efforts however we can.”

Gallagher has a long-established presence in Poole and supports many businesses in the area. As well as having strong relationships with the local marine community, its insurance specialists also support businesses in a range of sectors including manufacturing, construction, hospitality and real estate.

At Zest Lifestyle, we believe that a well-rested team is a vibrant and productive one. As employers, fostering an environment that promotes healthy sleep habits can lead to happier, more engaged employees. Here are some zestful tips to share with your team:
1. Champion Consistent Sleep Routines
Encourage your team to maintain regular sleep and wake times, even on weekends. This consistency regulates the body’s internal clock, leading to better sleep quality and daytime alertness.
2. Educate on Screen Time Awareness
The blue light from screens can interfere with sleep patterns. Promote digital well-being by suggesting screen breaks and sharing tips on reducing blue light exposure, especially before bedtime.
3. Promote Physical Activity
Encourage movement throughout the day, be it through standing desks, walking meetings, or stretch breaks. Regular activity can enhance sleep quality and overall vitality.
4. Support Stress Management
Introduce mindfulness sessions or workshops on stress reduction techniques. A calm mind is more conducive to restful sleep, and providing resources can empower employees to manage stress effectively.
5. Educate About Caffeine and Alcohol Intake
While caffeine is a stimulant that can disrupt sleep if consumed late in the day, alcohol might help one fall asleep initially but can interfere with sleep quality later in the night.
6. Promote a Healthy Work-Life Balance
Encourage employees to take regular breaks, use their vacation days, and avoid excessive overtime.
Let’s commit to making sleep health a priority, ensuring our teams are not only wellrested but also brimming with zest and enthusiasm.

The programme gives people the training needed to gain skilled jobs, helping them and local businesses.
During his visit, Prince William met with participants of the initiative, including Dan, who successfully navigated significant personal challenges, including homelessness, to secure training at Bournemouth and Poole College and a permanent job with Sunseeker International Ltd., the Poole-based luxury boat builder.
His Royal Highness made the visit to support the work of Homewards, a groundbreaking, five-year initiative launched by the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, dedicated to ending homelessness through locally-led solutions.

This initiative not only offers a structured starting point for a longterm career in boatbuilding, but also strengthens the college’s commitment to supporting local manufacturers by developing a skilled workforce.
The first ‘Job Ready’ programme was developed as a result of collaboration between Bournemouth and Poole College, Sunseeker and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Julia’s House children’s hospice, organiser of The Great Tail Trail, has revealed the locations for its colourful mermaid tail sculptures across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) this spring.
The trail, which is free to enjoy, will be making its debut from 5 April, featuring 45 larger than life artist-designed sculptures, many sponsored by local businesses, and 43 ‘Tiny Tails’ decorated by schools and local groups as part of a learning programme. From beachside locations at Sandbanks, Boscombe Pier, Canford Cliffs and Southbourne to town centre spots at Poole Quay, Bournemouth International Centre, the Vitality Stadium and Castlepoint, the giant mermaids bring a splash of colour and creativity across BCP.
Once the trail ends, the sculptures will be sold at auction to raise vital funds for Julia’s House, so it can continue to provide its specialist care for local children with life-limiting and complex conditions and support their families.
Laura Maidment, Public Fundraising Manager for Julia’s House, said: “The trail is something that everyone in BCP can be really proud of – it highlights our beautiful area, showcases some amazing local and national artists, and brings together businesses, schools, community groups and the public. We’d love everyone to explore the trail, get some fresh air and exercise with family and friends and enjoy seeing some wonderful artwork across the three towns!”
The Great Tail Trail goes live across BCP from 5 April to 1 June. Locations and routes can be viewed on the trail app and on a dedicated website. www.juliashouse.org
A carbon footprint is a measure of an organisation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Whether it’s to comply with SECR legislation, win tenders, respond to consumer demand, or action a commitment to net zero, the first step is to gather the data that allows you to measure your carbon footprint and understand your carbon inventory.
There are many providers of carbon footprint reports (CFR’s) in the market. As organisations start this process, they frequently find one carbon footprint provider or mechanism, looks much like any other. Whilst it can be argued that any CFR is better than no CFR. Not all CFR’s are created equal.
Decisions made at the start of the carbon reporting process, determine
what data is collected, by whom and whether the resultant CFR will satisfy the criteria for external verification. This avoids the risk of greenwashing and potential reputational damage.
Online ‘Check your carbon footprint’ calculators and proprietary solutions often rely on simple data that may not produce verifiable results. As a minimum, organisations should seek out a CFR provider who will deliver a report that complies with a formal internationally recognised certification standard, such as ISO 14064-1.
To safeguard your brand and ensure its not challenged during a tender process or by your stakeholders, the quality of your CFR should be robust demonstrating all of the following:
• Include clear definition of all emission boundaries
• Examine the full value chain of your organisation
• Comply with GHG Protocols or ISO 14064-1
• Avoids spend based analysis
• Document any excluded emissions with reasoning
• Clear and verifiable calculation methods
• Creates an evidence file for all activity data
• Ideally includes a 3rd party verifiers opinion statement
A verified CFR can provide environmental credibility; positive brand reputation; compliance with regulatory requirements; reduced operational costs; risk management and market differentiation.
This series of short Articles are designed to help inform your decision making process. Next issue we will explore the challenging area of Scope 3 emissions. If you have a question relating to Net Zero or Carbon or would like us to address a specific topic in a future article, please email me: mark.sherwood@auditel.co.uk www.auditel.co.uk
Morebus is inviting event organisers across the region to share their forthcoming special occasions on its website.
The bus operator is keen to hear from clubs, charities and other organisations who are planning public activities like sports days, walks, music festivals and celebrations, so it can help generate interest and encourage people to leave their cars at home and travel sustainably instead.
“We offer a comprehensive network of services across the region –and many organised events are easily accessible on our buses,” said Morebus head of communications, Nikki Honer. “We are committed to helping reduce congestion on the area’s roads, and we’d like to demonstrate how easy it is to ditch the car and travel with us instead. Public events often attract large numbers, and just one double decker bus has the potential to transport up to 75 people at a time.
“We’d like to hear from event organisers about local activities they have planned – so we can help drum up interest, whilst demonstrating just how easy it is to take the bus.”

Dorset Community Foundation has launched the latest version of its Hidden Dorset report as a website to highlight need and disadvantage in the county.
In the last year it has worked with BCP and Dorset councils, the NHS, the National Community Lottery and dozens of private donors to distribute £1.7 million to groups tackling poverty, homelessness, disability, mental health, loneliness and a variety of other issues affecting the county.
The site is broken down into five areas of need – Work, Education and Training; Loneliness and Isolation; Health, Wellbeing and Mental Health; Disadvantage and Poverty and Sustainability and Environment.
The statistics have been compiled in partnership with Bournemouth University and data researchers at BCP and Dorset councils behind the publication of their State of BCP and State of Dorset reports.
The foundation’s chairman, Tom Flood CBE, said: “We are extremely grateful to the university and to the researchers at both councils for their co-operation and guidance, as well as all of the groups who shared their stories. We could not have produced this without their input.”
“On the face of it Dorset is a beautiful, vibrant county but scratch the surface and underneath there are areas that are among the most deprived in the UK. While Hidden Dorset shines a light very brightly on that, it also showcases the wonderful work going on – much of it supported in some way by us – by some fantastic, dedicated and incredibly caring people.”

PKF Francis Clark has reported a 35% year-on-year increase in deal completions for its growing corporate finance team.
The team advised on 113 projects during 2024, including company sales, acquisitions, debt and equity fundraising, management buyouts, employee ownership trusts and more than 60 due diligence assignments. These included 46 deals with a value above the £500,000 threshold for inclusion on Experian Market IQ’s database.
This comes against the backdrop of a 2% rise in deal volumes in the south and south west region, compared to an 11% increase nationally.
Andrew Killick, head of corporate finance at PKF Francis Clark, said: “Our team excelled themselves last year by achieving some superb results for our clients, often by finding relatively unknown synergistic purchasers from around the UK or internationally who were able to pay premium prices due to the unique value we demonstrated the opportunity could deliver for them.
“We also assisted significantly more private equity funds and institutions on the buyside, helping with pre-completion due diligence and suggesting solutions where issues arose, to avoid these matters becoming dealbreakers.”
PKF Francis Clark’s annual deals
review publication features a survey of professional advisers and funders on the outlook for deals in 2025. Respondents were positive about expected levels of transactional activity in 2025, with 48% predicting an increase and only 16% a decrease. UK economic confidence was seen as the biggest factor affecting deal activity.
However, 51% of respondents think valuations will fall this year, while just 9% expect them to increase.
Andrew said: “Many entrepreneurs and business owners have yet to fully recognise the potentially huge impact of the changes the Budget delivered. Significant effort will be required to maintain, let alone increase, the net aftertax value for them and their descendants.
“While the individual issues may be different, 2025 is likely to hold just as many significant developments and surprises as last year. The key is to plan, expect change, keep flexible and adaptable, and be where the money is going.”
PKF Francis Clark’s 2025 deals review, including detailed analysis of transaction types and volumes in the UK and the southern region last year, can be found at pkf-francisclark.co.uk/deals-review.

A team from Trethowans will be taking on an English Channel relay swim in August 2025 to raise funds for Aspire, a national charity supporting people with spinal cord injury.
The team of six includes Andrew Mercer, Emma Wilders-Pratt, Laura Trapnell, Jennifer Bowes, Amy Croxford and Taylor Anderson.
Andrew is no stranger to the Channel. This will mark his third relay swim, with his most notable achievement dating back to 1981 when he was part of the Dover Lifeguard team that broke the mixed relay world record, completing the crossing in an astonishing 7 hours and 17 minutes – a record that still stands today.
Andrew shares, “Having completed this challenge twice, I know the immense physical and mental effort it takes. This time, it’s even more special to share the experience with my colleagues, who are undertaking this challenge for the first time. Supporting Aspire’s incredible work provides all the motivation we need to push through the cold waters and unpredictable conditions of the Channel.”
The team will be sharing updates on their training journey and fundraising efforts over the coming months. www.trethowans.com

In early 2025, Liz Willingham DL (ex-Dorset Chamber Past President, British Chambers of Commerce Non-Executive Director) Leila Willingham (Associate Director) from Liz Lean PR (LLPR) embarked on a trade mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to explore new markets and potential to broaden the agency’s international reach.
Liz said: “As we head into our 27th year of Liz Lean PR, it’s important to me that we very much nurture our heartland but remain open-minded to new opportunities too. We’re regularly looking at ways to spread risk and future-proof the business, and our trade mission in the UAE enabled us to scope new opportunities as well as embrace the opportunity to build valuable relationships. These included the international Chambers of Commerce network, industry peers, new business connections, and friends. We also learned more about the economic and cultural landscape of the region and understanding the potential for revenue diversification.”
LLPR’s trade mission was made possible with support from the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT), which provided market and territory research and insights. A UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) grant helped to fund the mission and enabled the Dorset-based agency to confidently embark on this research project.
Leila said: “Arriving in Dubai, the strength of this country’s ambition was immediately apparent. The principles set out by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum convey a sense of purpose, direction, and collaboration. It hosts economic strength due to the many large organisations in its geography and we were impressed by the strength of the Chamber brand and concept across the whole UAE; for example, when registering
a business in Abu Dhabi, it is mandatory to join the Abu Dhabi Chamber. It became clear to us early on that while the UAE offers an abundance of optimism, understanding the cultural nuances and being honest as to what would work for us and our business would be key to making meaningful inroads.”
The UAE is a region where innovation, infrastructure, and business growth move at an astonishing pace, driven by a unified vision. A result of this progress is the enthusiastic optimism that runs through the business community. Talented and ambitious professionals are welcomed wholly and are encouraged to maximise the opportunity presented by this country. With a potential reach to 4 billion people within a 4-hour flight radius, it has a lot to offer as a central business hub.
Liz added: “In the UAE, relationships and face-to-face interactions reign supreme, making physical presence important to establishing credibility and trust. Being there in person definitely helped to demonstrate our interest in the market and in the people we were so pleased to meet. We learnt from Dubai Chambers that the Dubai Government is keen for UK businesses to see the country as a lucrative market for expansion. There’s a desire for business leaders to want to grow their business in Dubai, without fearing they’ll need to move the entire operation abroad.”
The depth of support available to UK
With a potential reach to 4 billion people within a 4-hour flight radius, it has a lot
businesses looking to enter the UAE market is significant. The British Chambers of Commerce is well established in the UAE with strong teams leading its Dubai and Abu Dhabi outposts. Both organisations facilitate networking events and provide invaluable access to business leaders and local contacts. Similarly, Dubai Chambers is also investing time and resource into connecting with UK-based SMEs.
The business ecosystem in the UAE is led largely by government-owned entities, followed by influential family-owned conglomerates. These two forces shape much of the economy, meaning that understanding how to navigate these structures is crucial. There are also clear seasonal rhythms to business activity; at certain times of the year, such as during the hot summer, things naturally slow down.
Leila concluded: “The question now is how best to build on the momentum of this trip. The most immediate opportunity lies in strengthening the relationships we have established and continuing conversations with the connections we made. Our strong track record providing comms strategies for familyowned firms and our understanding of 100 plus year-old businesses is experience we learnt is valued in the Dubai market. We’re looking at ways to introduce our contacts in Dubai to the Chamber network, our community of family-owned firms, and more businesses like ours. We are also looking forward to using our knowledge of the territory to expand the global support we can offer to LLPR clients, enabling them to access new audiences in this region.”
According to LLPR, UAE offers a wealth of opportunity, but success will depend on taking the time to build trust, forge meaningful partnerships, and truly understand the cultural and business landscape.

Donaldson BOFA has launched a new mobile fume extraction system with articulated arms capable of filtering emissions associated with heavy-duty laser processes, soldering and organic solvents.
The AD 1500 iQ Dual Arms offers a functional reach of over 6ft (2m), thereby ensuring precision and operational flexibility in removing potentially harmful airborne contaminants on larger scale projects. The system also includes an integrated spark arrestor to reduce the risk of thermal events by capturing hot embers before they can enter the extraction system.
Josh Evans, Applications Engineer at Donaldson BOFA, commented: “This new system, with its extended reach, is being marketed worldwide as a filtration solution for multiple processes. It is ideally suited to extracting emissions in multiple laser
operations, including welding, engraving, cleaning and marking, as well as filtering fume, gases and odors associated with adhesives, organic solvents and soldering.”
The extraction system also benefits from Donaldson BOFA’s Intelligent Operating System (iQ), providing access to real-time airflow readings, filter condition monitoring and remote diagnostics. A multistage filtration architecture includes a pre-filter, HEPA filter and carbon layer, with an extended exhaust box helping to reduce noise and air dispersion.
“As such, the AD 1500 iQ Dual Arms is a powerful extraction solution that combines precision with flexibility, thanks to its integrated technologies, extended reach and portability,” says Josh Evans. www.donaldsonbofa.com

Drafting and replying to Google reviews - responding to feedback boosts your visibility in Google searches in multiple ways:
1. Recent engagement shows the business is active and encourages more interactions, more interactions improves rankings.
2. Using keywords within reviews reinforces relevance for search queries.
3. Google favours businesses that keep their profiles active.
Using a tool like Make or Zapier you can create an automated workflow to draft a response using ChatGPT in your style to incoming reviews, with differing responses based on the review score and then, once reviewed, post them as a reply to Google.
NOTE: It’s important to have a human review step within this process to make sure you double check the draft for accuracy (ChatGPT doesn’t always recognise sarcasm for example!) and tone – how and when to include a human in the AI loop is a subject we talk about in the Campfire workshop.
#2 Using AI to create Meta Descriptions or Alt text for images – when uploading new products to a website often fields like the SEO meta description or Alt text on images gets overlooked as a “nice-to-have” but should be an integral part of content best practice for both SEO and accessibility.
Large Language Models like ChatGPT have got significantly better at describing images and can be tuned to optimise for given keywords.
Most ecommerce platforms have plugins available to help you do this, for example AltText.AI on Shopify. You could also make use of a custom GPT for this purpose like “She Knows Alt Text” at https:// chatgpt.com/gpts - combine with automation to create these in bulk.
#3 Review customer feedback using AI to identify areas that need attention and to develop questions for a FAQ section.
Google’s NotebookLM enables users to upload substantial volumes of text and query the content. The current limit is
500,000 words per source or up to 200MB for uploads.
NOTE: Make sure you are anonymising the data you upload so as not to include any Personal Identifiable Information and are following best GDPR guidance.
Once you have the feedback within NotebookLM you can ask it to do a number of tasks:
1. Analyse the feedback for any patterns.
2. Ask it to identify any product opportunities.
3. Create the questions for an FAQ – if you have an existing FAQ you can also upload that, and ask it to review against the feedback you’ve received.
Side note: If you have a good FAQ this is a great starting point to build an AI customer service chatbot…
Campfire is a half-day workshop designed to get you, and your organisation started on adopting AI. For more information and to join us for the next one, visit: www.dorsetchamber.co.uk/campfire/ PS Don’t just take our word for it: 100% of previous attendees have said they’d recommend this workshop to others.
