MadisonSquareBoys&GirlsClubexiststohelpyouthwhoneedusmostfindtheirpathtoa brightfuture.Formorethan140years,Madisonhasprovidedsafe,high-qualityspaceswhere youngpeopleacrossNewYorkCitybuildacademicskills,confidence,andcharacterto succeedinschool,work,andlife.

FY25wasayearguidedbyourmissiontoenhancethelivesofNewYorkCityyouth,and Madison’sprogramsreachedmorethan5,200youngpeopleacrossfiveClubhousesinthe Bronx,Brooklyn,andHarlem.EveryMadisonexperienceisgroundedinourFormulaforImpact, whichadvancesfourkeyoutcomeareas:AcademicSuccess,Health&Wellbeing,Character& Leadership,andLife&WorkforceReadiness.

Acrossthesefourpillars,Madisondeepenedpartnerships,strengthenedstaffcapacity,and elevatedyouthvoice,ensuringthateveryyoungpersonwhowalksthroughourdoorsfinds opportunity,safety,andbelonging.InFY25,membershipgrew,evaluationresultsimproved, andprogramsexpandedthroughinnovativecollaborationsthatconnectedlearningtolife.

Ourstrategicprioritiesthisyearfocusedonempoweringyouththroughhigh-quality,evidencebasedprogramming,investinginstafftosustainacultureofexcellenceandtrauma-informed care,andbuildingpartnershipsthatexpandopportunityandreinforcecommunityimpact.

Withthesepriorities,MadisonentersFY26strongerthanever,poisedtogrowourimpactand deepenourcommitmenttoNewYorkCity’syouth.

Highexpectationsinschoolandafter-schoolprograms,frombothteachers/facilitatorsand studentsthemselves,areapowerfuldriverofyouthsuccessandwell-being.Researchshows thatwheneducatorstrulybelieveintheirstudents’potentialandsetchallengingstandards, studentsmakegreateracademicgainsandevendevelopstrongercreativityand motivation(Hu&Qian,2025).Whenyoungpeopleholdhighaspirationsforthemselves,itfuels motivationandresilience.Onelargestudyfoundthatteenswithloftyacademicgoalswere significantlylesspronetodepressionorbehaviorproblems,indicatinghowpositiveself expectationssupportmentalhealth.Cultivatingacultureofhighexpectationsthroughout elementary,middle,andhighschoolcreatesaself-fulfillingprophecyofachievement, boostingacademicgrowth,emotionalwell-being,andlifelongsuccess(Gershenson,2022).

MadisonSupportsYouth’sHealthbyIntegratingTheirInterests

ResearchshowsthatyoungpeoplethriveinprogramslikeMadison’s, wheretheyfeelsafe,supported,andabletobethemselves.Infact,a safe,welcomingenvironmentisthefoundationforallothergrowth;it laysthegroundworkforlearningandpersonaldevelopment (AfterschoolAlliance,2023).Whenyouthtrusttheenvironmentand feelaccepted,theyaremorelikelytoparticipateregularly.Within Madison’sClubs,strongbondsbetweenyouthandstafffosterthat senseofsecurity,andthesesupportiverelationshipshavebeenlinked tobettersocialskillsandemotionalwell-beingforthekidsinvolved (Jones&Deutch,2011).

AnothercriticalfactorinMadisonprogramsisfunandengaging activitiesthatalignwithyouths’interests.Enjoymentisn’tatrivial extra,it’softenthetopmotivationforyouthstoshowup.When activitiestapintowhatyoutharepassionateabout,sayasports leagueorfitnessprogramtailoredtotheirinterestslikedance,it boostsengagementandattendance.Participationinsportsand physicalactivityprogramsnotonlygetskidsmovingandincreases theirhealth(Bengtssonetal.,2025),italsohelpsthemform friendships,buildteamworkskills,anddevelopconfidence(Smithet al.2019).ResearchshowsthatwhenyouthgenuinelyenjoytheirClub experiences,itcorrelateswithhigherself-esteem,betteremotional outcomes,andpositivebehavior,largelybecausethey’rehavingfun andfeelconnectedtosupportivementorsandpeers(Leeetal.,2017).
