A 15 minute boat ride from the Madang Resort, the point of the reef gradually drops off into the deep dark Bismarck Sea. The point named after the Barracuda doesn’t only attract Barracuda, diving in this area you may see frequent visitors like the big-eyed Trevally and Sea Perch.
Diving in this area you might meet some friendly dwellers, big Coral Cods, Sweetlips, occasionally you may see several different types of sharks, they are usually minding their own business. There are several different types of sharks that pass through this area. Hammerheads and Grey Reef Sharks. The most unique Dartfishes are also found here.
Akebono Haze, Decorated Darfish.
The Decorated Dartfish has its origin dating back to the Japanese ‘Showa*’ Emperor, Showa Tenno, who was also a keen biologist. His son’s wife, Michiko, was a very instrumental woman, she was the idea behind the discovery and the name Akebono Haze.
*Showa is a unique name associated with the emperor’s generation during the time of his reign. Each generation of emperors have their own unique name.
