A 20min boat ride from the Madang Resort, off the coast of the beautfiul Wangat Island, the Henry Leith ship wreck is the place to expolore when diving in Madang. Wangat Island has beautiful coral reefs and a white sandy beach, below (sitting 20m or so) lays the ship wreck. The wreck, now home to several different species of invertebrates that can amaze experienced divers as well as new divers.

Wangat Island itself is a great site due to its great visibility, a perfect place for snorkelling and family picnics. You may also see the Longnose Hawk fish.

Longnose Hawkfish, Oxycirrhites typus

The Longnose Hawkfish is a carnivorous species of fish that can usually be seen at a depth of 10-100m. The fish isn’t as shy as the other coral-dwellers as it prefers the steeper slopes found on the edge of the outer corals. The Hawkfish reaches a length of 13cm and can be seen among gorgonians and black corals. The Henry Leith dive site has become its home making it a very pleasant tenant as it greets divers.
