#13 The Hood

Location: Southeast of Lepa Island.

Travelling Southeast from Lepa Island, night dives at this site comes highly recommended to see the rare endemic species of shark. Only found in Madang, the Hooded Carpet Shark comes out at night and moves along the coral reefs. The shy sea creature can easily blend itself into its surroundings.

These sharks have been classified as a vulnerable species and are rare. The shark can grow to a length of 80cm, with females maturing at 73cm, while males at 60cm.

This site is also a great location to dive during the day as it is home to a variety of different species of marine life. The curious Cuttlefish and a variety of different Nudibranches are common in this area. This site also comes highly recommended for snorkelling, great for family and leisure divers.
