MOT DU DIRECTEUR A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR Nous en sommes à notre 13e édition. Ça ne faisait pas partie de notre plan d’affaires franchement lorsque nous avions fait le premier en l’an 2000. L’appui des artistes et de certains membres de notre communauté nous ont probablement inspirés et propulsés vers l’avant, en dépit des embûches, des obstacles. Nous sommes particulièrement fiers de notre sélection 2012 et aussi de notrenouveau volet pour les enfants, Ma PremièreGalerie d’Art. Bon festival à tous! Fima’s 2012 vintage is certainly bound to be one of the finest if only by the selected participating artists. In spite of numerous obstacles, here we are again, celebrating the arts and very proud of our new facet for the children “My First Art Gallery”. After all, our children are tomorrow’s art lovers and we are devoted to help them appreciate art. Have a good festival!

GaleRue D’Art / Exposition en plein air Boulev’Art / Outdoor exhibition La GaleRue d’Art s’installera sur la rue Ste-Catherine Est devenue piétonne pour la saison estivale, entre les rues BErRi et aLEXANDRE DE SÈVE. Plus de 75 artistes professionnels et émergents, majoritairement en arts visuels exposeront leurs créations dans cette immense galerie à ciel ouvert. En faisant descendre les arts visuels dans la rue, le FIMA crée un espace favorisant l’interaction entre publics et artistes et permet à ces derniers de tisser leurs propres réseaux professionnels. CES ARTISTES provIENNENT du Québec, de l’Ontario, de, des états-unis, DE FRANCE, DU PÉROU ET DU BRÉSIL. Au-delà de 2 500 œuvres aux styles et techniques variés seront exposées. The Boulev’Art will settle into Ste-Catherine Est St. which is a pedestrian mall during the summer season, between St-Hubert St. and Papineau St. More than 80 professional and emerging artists from visual arts to crafts will exhibit their creations in a giant open air gallery. By pulling art out of galleries, FIMA wants to create a space favouring interaction between artists and the public and to permit artists to create their own networks. those artists coming from Quebec, Ontario, cuba, united-states FRANCE, BRAZIL, PERU, SPAIN. More than 2,500 artworks of different styles and techniques are exposed over a one-kilometre stretch on the street, with a section dedicated to emerging artists. 1450, rue Sainte-Catherine est Cette année, le FIMA organise sa toute première soirée de lancement haute en performances artistiques : Sophie Wilkins nous dévoilera ses talents en Body Painting; plusieurs stations de création seront mises en place et permettront aux nombreux artistes présents de laisser libre cours à leur créativité; une installation de light graffiti supervisée par AJ Korkidakis invitera le public à expérimenter cette nouvelle technique projetée en direct. Pour clore cette soirée, nous accueillerons le VJ Homing avec son installation de mapping Pixel accompagné du DJ Vincent Gauvin. This year, FIMA is holding its first ever launch party with high art performances: Sophie Wilkins will show us her talents in Body Painting; Some creative stations will be in place and allow the many artists present to unleash their creativity; a light graffiti installation under the direction of AJ Korkidakis will invite the public to experiment this new technique projected live. VJ Homing will close the evening with the installation of mapping Pixels with DJ Vincent Gauvin.

Cinq collectifs d’artistes représenteront l’art urbain à travers une œuvre collective qui prendra la forme de cinq totems, revêtirons les motifs et couleurs imaginés par Gaia – étoile montante de la galaxie street art -, les collectifs Montréalais En Masse et Cease, les Torontois Trio Magnus et le groupe multiethnique Bruxas Crew. Cette animation se veut festive et inclusive et celle-ci contribue à rendre cette place plus invitante et plus habitée. De plus, notre programmation artistique se veut multiple dans ses influences. De Toronto à Brasilia en passant par Paris et New York, les origines et les points de vue des artistes-performeurs sont épars, mais leur langage est le même. Street art te voilà.
Five artist collectives will be represent urban art through a collective effort that will consist in five totems which put colors and patterns designed by the New York artist Gaia, the Montreal collectives’ En Masse and Cease it, Torontonians Trio Magnus and ethnic group Bruxas Crew. TThis animation is intended festive and inclusive and it helps to make this place more inviting and more inhabited. In addition, our artistic program had multiple influences. jeudi 12 JUIN au DIMANCHE 16 JUIn THURSDAY, JUNE 12th to SUNDAY, JULY 16th 14 h - 20 h / Dimanche 12 h -18 h Parc de l’Espoir EN MASSE est une initiative de dessins collaboratifs fondée en 2009 par Jason Botkin et Tim Barnard avec l’intention d’offrir l’opportunité aux artistes émergents d’explorer la création collective. Cette collaboration permet de créer des œuvres démesurées! Avec leur projet « EN MASSE pour les MASSES », le public est invité à participer à l’élaboration d’un dessin collectif en noir et blanc! EN MASSE is a Montreal-based collaborative drawing initiative founded by Jason Botkin and Tim Barnard in 2009, with the intention of allowing emerging “Neo-Pop” artists an opportunity to explore the creation of a collective vision, greater than each could create on their own. With the project “EN MASSE for the MASSES”, the public is invited to participate in a drawing party that will produce a large-scale black and white artwork!

jeudi 12 JUIN au SAMEDI 15 JUIN THURSDAY, JUNE 12 to SATURDAY, JUNE 15 21 h - 23 h Parc de l’Espoir Le programme AUX VUES animera les soirées du 14e Festival International Montréal en Arts. Une série de documentaires sera projetée en plein air au Parc de l’Espoir du 13 au 15 juin, de 21h à 23h, peu après la fermeture de la GaleRue d’Art. Tous ces métrages focaliseront sur des artistes en arts visuels. Keith Haring, Zilon, Darcia Labrosse, Ian et Yvon Goulet vous seront présentés à travers l’œil de Pierre Blackburn et Christina Clausen. At The Movies programs form part of the 14th FIMA evenings. A serie of documentaries will be screened outdoors at Parc de l’Espoir from 13th to 15th June, from 9:00pm, shortly after the closure of the Boulev’Art. L’objectif de ce volet est d’initier les enfants à collectionner de l’art en leur donnant accès à une exposition de qualité, faite sur mesure pour eux. Ils auront l’opportunité de visiter gratuitement une exposition d’artistes professionnels, de voter pour leurs œuvres préférées et pourront également acheter une œuvre originale de qualité pour la somme de $10. The main objective is to introduce children to collect art by providing them with an access to an exhibition of quality, tailored specifically for them. Ma Première Galerie d’Art, projet de galerie d’art destinée aux moins de 13 ans viendra enrichir la programmation du FIMA du 12 juin au 16 juin 2013. Un projet créatif leur est également destiné. Celui-ci consiste en la création de totems miniatures. Les artistes participants au volet Totem Urbain sont partie prenante de ce projet éducatif. Children can participate actively to the festival. Alone or accompanied, they will be invited to take part of two projects which focuses on the thought and interaction between kids and artists. My first art gallery is an art gallery for children under the age of 13. Kid’s workshop. A kid creativity project will take place during the festival. This is paper totem design workshop exclusively for the kids. They can also ask the FIMA artists to help us in order to realize their artwork.
