Porträts neue Mitarbeiter

Im letzten Januar war ich zum ersten Mal in Zuoz. Der Ort kam mir ein bisschen magisch vor, wie es Engadiner Dörfer so an sich haben für jemanden aus dem Unterland, deren Herz aber für die Berge schlägt. Vielleicht, dachte ich da, wohne und arbeite ich in ferner Zukunft einmal an so einem Ort, wenn’s sich ergibt, wer weiss… Es ergab sich wesentlich schneller als gedacht und bereits im März stieg ich von Zürich aus in den Online-Unterricht ein.

In Zürich bin ich aufgewachsen und habe da auch mein Studium der Germanistik und Kulturanalyse absolviert. Mit der Stadt verbindet mich vieles; meine Familie natürlich, Freundeskreise, das Orchester, in dem ich Cello spiele, viele schöne Erinnerungen und Pläne. Und doch hielt ich es nie lange am Stück in der Stadt aus, immer zog es mich wieder in die Berge zum Wandern, Klettern oder Skifahren. Parallel zu meinem Studium machte ich so auch die Ausbildung zur Skilehrerin, reiste eine Zeit lang dem Schnee nach und verbrachte einige wunderbare Winter in Neuseeland.

Egal, ob in der Stadt oder auf dem Berg, in der Schweiz oder in Neuseeland, in meinem Rucksack findet sich immer mindestens ein Buch zum Lesen und eines zum Notizen machen (man weiss ja nie). Die Freude am Lesen und Schreiben ist etwas, das mich überall und immer begleitet, und ich hoffe, als Deutschlehrerin am Lyceum etwas davon weitergeben zu können – eine Herausforderung, auf die ich mich sehr freue. someone from the lowlands, whose heart beats for the mountains. Maybe, I thought, I will live and work in such a place in the distant future, if the chance arises… who knows? It did happen, and much sooner than I thought and I started my online lessons in March from Zurich.

I grew up in Zurich, where I also completed my studies in German and Cultural Studies. Many things connect me with the city; my family, of course, friends, the orchestra in which I play cello, many wonderful memories and plans. And yet I never stayed in the city for long at a stretch, I was always drawn back to the mountains for hiking, climbing or skiing. Parallel to my studies I also trained as a ski instructor, followed the snow for a while and spent some wonderful winters in New Zealand.

Whether in the city or the mountains, in Switzerland or in New Zealand, my backpack always contains at least one book to read and another to make notes (you never know). The joy of reading and writing is something that is with me everywhere and always, and as a German teacher at the Lyceum I hope to be able to pass some of that on – a challenge I am very much looking forward to.

Ich bin Nichole und habe mein Abenteuer letzten April hier im Lyceum begonnen. Ich bin Mitglied des Admission-Teams und helfe bei der Organisation der Sommer- und Wintercamps. Ich bin in Italien geboren, in einem Dorf nicht weit von hier; ich habe in Mailand studiert, in London gelebt und bin nach

Mailand zurückgekehrt. Dort arbeitete ich zunächst in einer PR & Pressestelle und dann in einem internationalen Unternehmen für Medizinalprodukte, wobei ich mich immer mit Marketing und Kommunikation befasste.

Im Januar 2019 bin ich in die Schweiz gezogen, zuerst nach Chur und nun hierher. Ich liebe es, jeden Morgen aufzuwachen und eine schöne Aussicht, frische Luft und nette Menschen um mich herum zu haben. Die Veränderungen waren enorm, aber im Lyceum in einem internationalen und multikulturellen Umfeld zu arbeiten, ist wirklich inspirierend. Ich bin hier, um zu bleiben und alle Veränderungen, die ich vorgenommen habe, waren es wert.

I am Nichole and I started my adventure here in Lyceum last April. I am a member of the Admission team as well as supporting the organization of the Summer & Winter Camp. I was born in Italy, in a village not far from here; I studied in Milan, lived in London and returned to Milan. I worked there first in a PR & Press Office and then in an international medical devices company, always dealing with marketing and communication.

Since January 2019, I moved to Switzerland, first to Chur and now here. I love wake up every morning and have a beautiful view, fresh air and kind people around. The change has been huge but working at the Lyceum, in an international and multicultural environment, is truly inspiring. I am here to stay and all the changes I have made have been worth it.

Mein Name ist Roger Gammenthaler und ich arbeite im Team Unterhalt im Lyceum. Fachwissen habe ich in verschiedenen Positionen vertieft. So habe ich noch die Eidg. Dipl. Hauswartschule absolviert.

Seit 15 Jahren komme ich und meine Lebenspartnerin Karin zu jeder Jahreszeit ins wunderschöne Engadin in die Ferien. Wir waren immer öfters im Engadin anzutreffen und daher haben wir uns entschieden hierher zu ziehen um zu leben und zu arbeiten.

Das vielfältige sportliche Angebot, die schöne und facettenreiche Natur sowie die schönen Engadiner Häuser faszinieren mich. In der Freizeit gehe ich gerne skifahren, biken, wandern oder geniesse einfach ein feines Essen mit Freunden. Gerne unternehme ich auch Kurztrips und lerne neue Regionen und Ortschaften kennen.

Durch meine beruflichen Tätigkeiten war ich längerer Zeit mit den 4 Landessprachen der Schweiz konfrontiert und durch das Reisen, u.a. ein Sprachaufenthalt in Australien, habe ich mein Englisch verbessert.

Es ist für mich ein Privileg an einer solch geschichtsträchtigen internationalen Schule arbeiten zu dürfen und dabei die Engadiner- und Wahlengadiner-Truppe zu unterstützen. Ich freue mich auf tolle Begegnungen und gute Gespräche sowie erfolgreiche und gute Zusammenarbeit.

My name is Roger Gammenthaler and I work in the maintenance team at the Lyceum.

I was born and grew up in the canton of Bern (Emmental). I completed my apprenticeship as an in-house technician and have developed my expertise in various jobs. I also completed a qualification in caretaker services.

For 15 years now, my partner Karin and I have come to the beautiful Engadine for holidays at various times of the year. Finding ourselves in the Engadine more and more often, we decided to move here to live and work. I am fascinated by the wide range of sports, the beauty and diversity of the nature here and the beautiful Engadine houses.

In my free time, I like to go skiing, biking, hiking or I simply enjoy a good meal with friends. I also enjoy taking short trips and getting to know new regions and places.

My professional activities mean I have worked in the four national languages of Switzerland and through travelling, including a language stay in Australia, I have improved my English.

It is a privilege for me to be able to work at an international school steeped in history and to support a team of people from the Engadine and those who have chosen to make the Engadine their home. I am looking forward to our encounters and conversations as well as working together as a team.

Ich unterrichte seit 21 Jahren Betriebswirtschaftslehre. Ich hatte eine Reihe von Arbeitsstellen an britischen Schulen und Colleges inne, unter anderem als Leiter der Wirtschaftswissenschaften am Shiplake College, einer Privatschule ausserhalb von Henley on Thames, als Programmmanager für Wirtschaftswissenschaften am Exeter College, ein OfSTED College mit der Bestnote Note 1 ausgezeichnet und als Direktor für Wirtschaftswissenschaften am South Lincolnshire Academies Trust.

Meine Aufgabe am Lyceum besteht darin, an der Entwicklung des BTEC Business Programme mitzuwirken, das Teil des International Bachelorette Career Pathway Programme ist. Ausserdem unterrichte ich im Rahmen des IB Business Management Programms.

Es ist mir nicht neu, im Ausland zu unterrichten. In den Jahren 2011 bis 2014 war ich Leiter der Beruflichen Studien (BTEC) und Lehrer für Betriebswirtschaftslehre an der St. Andrews International High School in Malawi. Ich führte die BTEC Business Qualifications in St. Andrews ein. St Andrews war dann die erste Schule in Afrika, die BTEC Business als Teil ihres Lehrplans anbot. Drei Jahre später wurde das BTEC-Programm in St. Andrews so populär, dass die Abteilung von 14 auf 114 Studenten erweitert wurde, die alle eine BTEC-Qualifikation anstrebten. Die Studenten aus St. Andrews gingen mit ihren BTEC-Qualifikationen an gute und angesehene Universitäten in der ganzen Welt.

Ich bin aufgeregt und freue mich darauf, im Lyceum Alpinum in Zuoz Skifahren zu lernen und mehr Aktivitäten im Freien zu unternehmen.

I have been teaching Business Studies for 21 years. I have held a number of positions in UK schools and colleges which include, Head of Business at Shiplake College, a Private School outside Henley on Thames, Programme Manager for Business Studies at Exeter College a OfSTED grade 1 Outstanding College and Director of Business Studies at South Lincolnshire Academies Trust.

My job role at Lyceum is leading on the development of the BTEC Business Programme which is part of the International Bachelorette Career Pathway Programme. I also teach on the IB Business Management Programme.

I am not new to teaching abroad. In 2011 to 2014 I was Head of Vocational Studies(BTEC) and Business Studies Teacher at St Andrews International High School in Malawi. I introduced BTEC Business Qualifications to St Andrews. St Andrews then became the first school in Africa to offer BTEC Business as part of their curriculum. Three years later the BTEC programme became so popular at St Andrews that the department expanded from 14 students to 114 students all studying towards BTEC Qualifications. The Students from St Andrews went to good and prestigious Universities all around the world with their BTEC qualifications.

I am excited and looking forward to learning skiing and doing more outdoor pursuits at the Lyceum Alpinum, Zuoz.

In drei Jahren werde ich wieder ganz im Engadin sesshaft – dieser Gedanke beflügelt mich und nach 46 Jahren in Zürich, möchte ich wieder zurück zu meinen Wurzeln. Meine Verbundenheit mit der romanischen Sprache, meiner Muttersprache, und mit der romanischen Kultur war für mich immer zentral. Mein Heimatort ist Guarda und doch ist Zuoz, der Heimatort meiner Grossmutter vaterseits, seit 10 Jahren für mich und meine zwei erwachsenen Kinder unser zweites Zuhause.

Hier schöpfe ich Energie in der Natur, wandere, gehe Biken, Joggen und Skaten. Entspannen kann ich mich zu Hause beim Lesen eines guten Buches.

leidenschaftlich Italienisch unterrichte. Bereits während meines Romanistikstudiums (Italienisch, Rätoromanisch, Französisch) an der Universität Zürich und Pavia, konnte ich diese Lehrtätigkeit aufnehmen.

Es freut mich sehr, dass ich nun jeweils am Montag am Lyceum Rätoromanisch als Freifach unterrichten kann.

In three years, I will once again be completely settled in the Engadine – this thought inspires me and after 46 years in Zurich, I wish to return to my roots. My connection to the Romansh language, my native language, and to Romansh culture has always been a central part of who I am. My hometown is Guarda, but Zuoz, the hometown of my grandmother on my father's side, has been a second home for me and my two grown-up children for 10 years.

I draw energy from nature here, go hiking, biking, jogging and skating. I can relax at home reading a good book.

This is how I always find inspiration for my lessons at the Realgymnasium Rämibühl, where I have been passionately teaching Italian for 37 years. I was already able to take up this teaching position while studying Romance language studies (Italian, Romansh, French) at the universities of Zurich and Pavia.

I am very pleased that I can now teach Romansh as an elective on Mondays at the Lyceum.

Mein Name ist Mila Markovska, ich bin 16 Jahre alt und wohne zusammen mit meinen Eltern und meinem älteren Bruder in Samedan. Ich ging 9 Jahre zur Schule. Ich habe 5 Jahre die Schule in La Punt besucht und die anderen 4 Jahre in Samedan. Jetzt mache ich eine 3-jährige Lehre als Kauffrau hier im Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz. In meiner Freizeit verbringe ich gerne Zeit mit meiner Familie und mit meinen Freunden, ansonsten lese ich auch gerne, wenn ich Zeit habe. Meine Ziele sind einen guten Abschluss zu haben (also die Lehrabschlussprüfung zu bestehen) und auch viel zu Reisen. My name is Mila Markovska, I am 16 years old and I live in Samedan with my parents and my older brother. I attended school for nine years, five years in La Punt and the other four years in Samedan. Now I am doing a three-year apprenticeship as a commercial assistant here at the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz. In my free time, I like to spend time with my family and with my friends. I also like to read when I have time. My goals are to gain a good diploma (i.e. to pass the final apprenticeship examination) and also to travel a lot.

Ich unterrichte seit 14 Jahren Mathematik und habe in Südwales, der Schweiz und Polen unterrichtet. Meine Lehrbefähigung habe ich an der Universität von Wales, Institut Cardiff, erworben.

Da ich zuvor acht Jahre lang in St. Gallen gelebt habe, war ich sehr glücklich, nach Zuoz zu ziehen, da ich gerne Rad fahre, wandere und snowboarde. Man hat mich gewarnt, dass die Winter lang sind, aber ich freue mich sehr darauf, mein Board abzustauben und die Umgebung zu erkunden.

Ich bin auch ein grosser Fan des walisischen Rugby-Teams und freue mich jedes Jahr auf das «Six Nations» Rugby-Turnier.

I have been teaching maths for 14 years and have taught in the South Wales, Switzerland and Poland. I completed my teaching qualification at the University of Wales, Institute Cardiff.

Having previously lived in St Gallen for 8 eight years I was very happy to locate to Zuoz as I enjoy cycling, hiking and snowboarding. I have been warned that the winters are long but I am very much looking forward to dusting off my board and exploring the surroundings.
