




More than 500 students received diplomas during the 49th Annual Lone Star College-Kingwood Commencement ceremony
The ceremony took place on Saturday, May 13th, at the M O Campbell Educational Center in Houston The graduates included those with Associate Degrees, Certificates of Competency, Early College High School students and the first graduates from the TRIO program The federal TRIO program is an outreach and student services program designed to identify and provide services for students from disadvantaged backgrounds
The prelude began with Dr Robert Hunt (pianist) and graduate Isaac Recio singing the National Anthem Presentation of Colors was provided by the Splendora High School AFJROTC Honor Guard Board of Trustees members Mike Sullivan, Dr Jim Cain, and Art Murillo were also present for the special event, as well as Chancellor’s Cabinet Chief of Staff and Board Liaison Deseree Probasco
LSC-Kingwood President, Dr Melissa Gonzalez, welcomed graduates to the Commencement and thanked their families for their support of the students’ path to success She also recognized the importance of faculty, staff and the community
Honors College Graduate and Phi Theta Kappa member Katherine McIlhany delivered the Commencement Address Katherine spoke about how her mother’s positive outlook on her battle with terminal illness gave her strength to overcome her own struggles
Katherine also thanked her many professors for equipping her with the knowledge and tools to grow into a leader Katherine now hopes to pursue her bachelor’s degree and become a Certified Public Accountant

We had a busy spring semester and we're excited to highlight all the incredible accomplishments on our campus We watched hundreds of graduates walk the stage, and walk toward a brighter future
We held our first Achievement Ceremony for CE students and GED graduates, which was a touching tribute to the importance of family and friends in our educational journeys And I'm proud to recognize so many of our faculty, staff and students who, by using their remarkable skills, are making Lone Star College-Kingwood a world class campus We hope you enjoy the newsletter, and -Go Coyotes!
The 2023 Scholarship Recipient Breakfast was a beautiful and inspiring event More than 250 people attended Scholarship Recipients were able to meet their generous Donors, who made such a difference in their educational journeys and lives. LSC-Kingwood President Dr. Melissa Gonzalez spoke about how the funds not only help the students, but their families as well. Adjunct Faculty Member Heath Vercher shared his talents on the piano Three scholarship winners spoke about their struggles and how the funds helped them overcome obstacles to be successful Samantha Galvan, Carlos Diaz and Lea Kelly, who won the Chancellor’s Scholarship, all shared their empowering stories
Students who obtained Continuing Education certificates and GED graduates were honored at the 2023 Achievement Ceremony More than 50 graduates attended and more than 140 family members and friends showed up in support. LSC-Kingwood Alumni Trustee Mike Sullivan congratulated the students on their hard work Guest speaker Dr Juan Manuel Galván shared his inspiring story of success and encouraged students to continue their educational journeys Congrats to these students and best of luck in the future!
Kudos to LSC-Kingwood's Phi Theta Kappa Chapter - they brought home 6 prestigious awards from the International Catalyst Convention in Columbus, Ohio Six students from Alpha Lambda Xi attended the conference, along with advisors Dr. Matthew Newton and Dr. Jared Miller Congrats to them on their continued success!
Zach Weber is the youngest student ever to graduate from the Kingwood Fire Science Academy He was just 16 when he entered the Academy, and at 17 graduated with his AAS in Fire Science Technology Zach also received two awards during the graduation: The Highest GPA Award and the "Gary Staley - AnytimeAnywhere" Award Zach says about the program, "It was physically the most challenging thing I have ever done and it had some of the highest academic standards Chief Teverbaugh among other instructors taught me what it is like to be apart of a non blood related family...although challenging, I would never take it back " In the fall Zach plans to finish up his BAS in Emergency Management We congratulate Zach for his outstanding and historical achievement
Students and Staff dined, danced and strolled the red carpet at the Cody Awards Students were also honored for their hard work throughout the year
STUDENTS BROUGHT THEIR "A-GAME" TO "PIE A PROF " THE EVENT IS PART OF THE ANNUAL EXAM JAM LEADING UP TO FINALS.
Hats off to the Professional Support Staff Association for providing a fun and festive Mad Hatter Tea Party event!
Faculty and Staff enjoyed a "friendly" game of Kickball. Thanks to Jared Dalpe, Dante Atchison, and the rest of the Fitness Training Center team for organizing the annual event.
Lone Star College Chancellor Dr. Stephen Head got a surprise visit from Cody when he stopped by the Kingwood campus. Dr. Gonzalez also presented him with some Houston Astros Memorabilia

LSC-Kingwood partnered with The Texas Familias Council to offer a health fair with resources targeting our Spanish-speaking community They provided inform on mental health, immigration, food pantries and more.
LSC-Kingwood shared information with parents about the benefits of college. Mascot Cody the Coyote even made an appearance. Entertainment was provided by Mariachi and Opera singer Vanessa Alonzo and a vibrant group of Chikawa dancers
More than than 7,000 visitors attended the Humble ISD Fine Arts Festival in May. The event featured more than 1,200 pieces of award-winning art from kindergarten through 12th grade The event also featured creation stations, artisan markets and food vendors
Graphic Design students teamed up to develop promotional pieces for several local non-profits during the 19th Annual "Design-A-Thon."
The event pairs students with non-profits who don’t have the resources to create promotional materials The students get community service credits and real-life experience to add to their portfolios. Some of the non-profit groups included “Keep Kingwood Green” and “Success for Children with Disabilities.”
