GRADUATION NUMBERS HIGHEST IN A DECADE

A huge accomplishment for LSC-Kingwood: The college had 1,665 students complete their degrees or certifications last year. That’s a 32% increase over last year. Enrollment is also up. This fall semester, there are 12,243 students attending the Kingwood campus. Enrollment for Lone Star College is up across the board. The system overall welcomed 88,809 students this fall semester, up 4 5% over last year

Welcome back, Coyotes! The fall semester is in full swing and we are thrilled to see all the energy and activity across our campus once more.

We are so proud to see that more and more students are choosing Lone Star College-Kingwood as their home away from home Seeing a record number of students graduate demonstrates that we are on the right track. It’s great to see our clubs and sports teams back in action, as well.

Club sports are back at LSC-Kingwood! Coach J Honored

Basketball Head Coach Jamar Finnie had his debut game, after recovering from a car accident that nearly left him paralyzed and almost crushed his dreams of coaching And the first game back, was against his former team. Finnie, who is known as “Coach J,” was hired by LSCKingwood to help restart the basketball program. Two weeks later, he was struck by a car Doctors said he would likely never walk again

After 5 different surgeries, he eventually regained his ability to walk. Finnie says he he looks forward to building the basketball program in Kingwood. “We have all the facilities, we have the backing of the school, the administration’s behind us, I feel the guys have a great attitude, we just need time to build, time to practice and develop to where we want to be.” You can watch the full interview with Coach J at: https://youtu be/DtYmIm9humY?si=YYgQupvys_sNWjiq

Faculty Spotlight: Isis Fernandez Rojas

Did you know? Meet our New Career & Transfer Center Manager

Please welcome Krystal Archie as the new Career & Transfer Center Manger at LSC-Kingwood. Krystal obtained her bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University and her master’s degree from University of Houston-Downtown.

Congrats to our very own LSC-Kingwood Assistant English Professor, Icess Fernandez Rojas, on the publication of her first poetry book . “The Opposite of Breathing is Cement: Poetry and Prose” will be released October 9th. According to the publisher, the book is described as “ a breathless journey between identity, love, and mental illness.” A campus book release event is planned for November 1st at 12:30 p m in the the Teaching Theater, CLA 112.

Charity Spelling Bee

LSC-Kingwood staff members competed in the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County Spelling Bee. The event raised $8,751, which goes towards scholarships for students in New Caney ISD. The LSC teams were “The Barbees” and “Las Tres Mellizas.” The team “The T-Crosser's“ won first place on the word onomatopoeia. Congrats to “The Barbees“ for coming in 4th!

Pizza with the President & President Pop-ins

Dr. Melissa Gonzalez enjoys meeting with students during Pizza with the President The event offers students the chance to chat with the President and express their opinions, share their concerns and ask questions. The next Pizza with the President will be Oct.12th from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p m and from 5:30 p m to 6:30 p m in CLA 215.

Wellness Resource Fair

Folks at LSC-Kingwood got the chance to relax and unwind at the Wellness Resource Fair. The fair was sponsored by the LSC-Kingwood Culture Impact Committee. The fair featured calming activities such as coloring, building Legos, crocheting, puzzles, and tips for combatting stress

Hispanic Heritage Celebrations

Hispanic Heritage Month was full of music, food and fun at the Kingwood campus and centers. LSC has 39,633 Hispanic students this fall. Students enjoyed Mariachi performances as well as tasty elote and tamales At East Aldine Center, a panel of community leaders spoke about their struggles and successes. The panel included LSC Chancellor Mario K. Castillo, J.D., Texas State Rep. Armando Walle, LSCKingwood Interim Vice President of Student Success Ernesto Valenzuela, LSC-EAC Dean Reyna Tippets and LSC-Kingwood President Dr. Melissa Gonzalez. Lights, Camera, Action!

Staff and students enjoyed a screening of “A Million Miles Away,” which chronicles the incredible story of the first migrant farm worker to travel to space. There will be another showing October 4th, 6-8pm in SCC 106.

Celebrating Constitution Day

Student Life handed out some patriotic giveaways for Constitution Day. Cody & Flag Boy battled it out over Constitution Trivia; and students and staff tested their knowledge of U.S. laws.
