Zone Defense

By Angie Wurm

"Oh gosh, am I going to screw up?", " OK, now that I have the ball, what am I going to do with it?" No, these girls were not the Bad News Bears of basketball. These girls have done a great job both defensively, and offensively this season .

Amanda Stark felt that one of the teams strong points was their defense . Karissa Stephens agrees, saying; "We really do know what we're doing . Even if it doesn't look like it all of the time."

Nicole Bouwens added; "I don't think our team has certain strong players Our biggest strong point is that we play as a team. Everyone is equal."

"Confidence is the key. If you don't have confidence, your team isn't going to go very far " said Stephens.

Even though the girls beat all of the area high school teams, all three girls felt as though East was their biggest rival. " They (East) had a real bad attitude and no team unity," said Stephens. "They were really competitive offensively, and it challenged us to be better and play our very hardest," stated Stark

Basketball definitely runs in these girls' blood. Bouwens said she chose to play basketball because she loves the competition. She also said; "It's also a great way to stay in shape, while having fun." Stephens, on the other hand, said she chose to play basketball because she's played since she was three. Stark chose it because she had always participated in track, and wanted to try something a little different
