Whether it's getting stuck in a fence while making a play, spitting on your batting gloves for good luck, or doing a cheer before the game, you can bet that the Northeast Varsity Softball team is giving it their all
Even though the softball team was only in their second sanctioned season, the 13 girls on the team ended their season in good standing
There was a lot of excitement for the Lady Rockets when it came to tournament time In the LPS invitational, Senior Heather Mueller launched the ball over the fence and came back the next afternoon to sail another one over against Elkhorn giving the Rockets 7th place .
''You know from the time the pitcher releases the ball! that it's going over," says Mueller who was one of 2 seniors on the team this season
Later in the season the Rockets took l st place in the Schuyler Invitational defeating Kearney, and Schuyler for the trophy Throughout the Schuyler game, Coach Donahoe wore her hair in a "lucky bun" which the girls then used as a rally device in the following games . Assistant coach Betty Beaman took to having a cappuccino before early morning away tournaments.
There was not, however, a silver lining on every cloud fort he Rockets this season. Half way through the season, in a Kearney double header, Senior Erin York, was taken out fort he rest of the season when a Kearney player slid into her during a play at home.
