The 1994 varsity volleyball season did not end with a trip to the state tournament , only the second time in the past ten years that Northeast did not qualify for state and the first time since 1989
However, Coach Sandy Genrich is proud of her team , describing them as " hard-working and unified, they never gave up " Genrich added that the seniors did a great job of providing leadership
One of those seniors was Robin Voss, a four-year letterwinner who switched from a setter to a right side hitter. Although she had to learn a new position , Voss showed no difficulty and led the Rockets in hitting statistics
"It's a weird feeling , knowing that I've played the last game of my last season. This season was only my first without going to state, " Voss said
The match that helped keep the team's spirits high was against the Southeast Knights Northeast lost the first set but came back in the second The game ended as a victory for the Rockets with a third-set score of 15-0. "Beating the Southeast volleyball team at the Kearney Invitational was our most memorable game," says Voss
The team had a fun year and players are excited for the next season The seniors claim that the younger girls that are coming back should be at the top. ''They worked really well together ," said Voss .
