By Pam Storm
Not only did the varsity football team have a new head coach , it also had new rules and started new traditions.
From captain practices, summer practices, to senior rules the football players started on a new road of discovery
C o ach Mark King , a former coach at Ord High School, is ready to change the football program around.
"It is like a piece of a puzzle, the offense and defense have to fit together ," King said.
Along with fitting together, the offense and defesne had to work together at practice and at games. This was done, despite stereotypes by spectators.
One thing that bothered some team members was that the c rowd came expecting a loss and even though fans were supportive, it was still a raw deal for the team
Their record may not have improved greatly, but the effort and hard work they put into the season had.
" We worked hard because Coach King pushed us harder than the previous coa c h, " senior lineman Scott Bautch said "E v en though we didn 't have a lot of wins , one could say that we were one of the better teams in the state "
Playing against city rivals is always a highlight of every season and 1994 was no different. The Rockets batt led to a 0-3 re c ord , but pushed Top l 0-rated Southeast before losing, 12- 9 o n a f ield g o al in the final two m inutes. A last-minute drive aga inst East fell short as the Spartans won , 21 - l b Northeast m istakes helped Lin c oln High claim a 21-7 win .
