Hello, Marlin Community!

Happy Spring, everyone! These past two months have been packed with student events. This issue features Science Fair, a 10th grade Tampa field trip, dances galore for every grade level, and of course, Homecoming! We are headed into another eventful Quarter 4 Hope everyone enjoys the long weekend

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

Lower School

Mrs. Flo Phillips, the author of Goodnight Colonial Georgetown, visited the Lower School to read her book to the K5 and First Grade classes!

Middle School

Upper School

To connect better with their English novel, Chew on This, the 6th Grade worked became an assembly line for candy cars and completed a french fry taste test

The 9th Grade class completed their unit on Genetic Engineering with a Socratic Seminar. They discussed the ethical issues surrounding the genetic modification of humans and other animals.

Upper School

The AP Psychology class learned about the early psychological development of humans with a twoweek Sock Baby project They were tasked with caring for their baby, as well experiencing psychological concepts like parallel play and conservation.

Upper School

The AP Physics 1 class learned the science behind oscillatory motion by making themselves pendulums on the swings.

Portable Removal

Over the past few weeks, Lowcountry has slowly begun to dismantle and remove the portables. Our students gathered outside to view the end of an era as the first portable was hulled away. The rest of the portables will be removed over the coming weeks and months.

Chapel Assembly

For February’s Chapel assembly, the school recieved a special treat as senior Ryan Corcoran presented. Discussing the wonderful power of prayer, Ryan inspired the school to a higher way of life. Proclaiming the ideals of self-sacrifice, humility, and a desire to learn, he discussed how the simple act of prayer can lead to an empowered, impactful life.

Career Day

Kindergarten had the best community helpers week! They got to hear from a lawyer, dentist, doctor, visit the fire station, and the Myrtle beach police department We are so thankful for all the kindergarten parents who serve our community and we appreciate you taking your time to talk to the class.

Read Across America Week

The Lower School celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday with lots of fun activities, including dressing up and partner reading across grades.

Each year, Lower and Middle School students demonstrate their scientific knowledge by presenting a hypothesis and experiment to be judged by a panel of volunteer judges. The fair is filled with competitive at have involved lots ork and dedication the students.

While our Upper School students worked hard taking their exams, the Lower School put in the good work to host a breakfast with Santa.

Personal Finance Tampa Trip

Mr. Strong’s 10th Grade Personal Finance class worked hard throughout the year to plan and budget their trip to Tampa, Florida. They had a blast at Busch Gardens and learned about different cultures at a Native American restaurant.

Science Bowl

This year’s Science Bowl team consisted on seniors Griffin Ballard, Luke Burrow, Chase Elliott, and Bronson Keithly. They travelled to Aiken, SC, to compete in the annual Department of Energy National Science Bowl at the Savannah River Site.

Art Show

The SCISA Art Show is a great opportunity for students to show off their art skills in a friendly competition.

Congratulations to Greyson Beck, Cosette Thornton, McKenna Barclay Delphia Schussler, June O’Halloran, Kaelyn Green, and Daniel Lutz for receiving recognition for their potter and mixed media work.

Upper School students had a blast dancing at an “Under the Sea” themed Homecoming planned by the Prom Committee

CLUB FEATURE

MARLIN INTERACT CLUB

The Marlin Interact Club is a philanthropic club where students lead interactive fundraisers and events within the community to raise charitable donations and serve others During the month of December, they raised $140 to donate to the nonprofit organization Active Minds. In February, their cupid fundraiser brought in $310 for the American Red Cross (L A )

During the months of March and April they are collecting yarn to create yarn dolls to be delivered with the Heart for Ecuador mission trip this July Middle and Upper School classes are competing to bring in the most yarn and yarn dolls. Marlin Interact Club meets on Tuesdays and invites all students to join them during the months of March and April to make dolls for the children of Ecuador

Mrs. Paige Ferguson

Mrs. Ferguson is our Interventionist in Lower School! She has been teaching at Lowcountry and love our school! She and her husband and have three wonderful children and two adorable grandsons She love hanging out with her family, especially on the boat
