HOPE
HAITI’S CHILDREN

A NOTE FROM YOUR MISSIONARIES IN HAITI

Bobby and Sherry Burnette

Dear Friends and Partners:
Thank you for connecting with our ministry and investing your time to learn more about our unwavering commitment to saving and transforming the lives of children in Haiti. God has given us a deep love for the Haitian people. We feel strongly in our hearts that you are reading this because your heart is full of Christian compassion and grace for them as well. We humbly thank you.
It has been said that mission work is the closest thing to the heart of God. We could not have begun this journey in Haiti without faith in the God who put this dream and desire into our hearts. As one of the world's poorest nations, the tiny country of Haiti is no stranger to devastation, destruction, and poverty. Recently, we have faced not only the continued effects of the deadly, worldwide pandemic but also the tragic assassination of the President, a breakout of widespread gang violence and political unrest, a massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake in south Haiti, and an unimaginable hunger crisis. Through all this, we continue to walk by faith, ministering to the poorest of the poor, spreading the Word of God, and showing Christ's love by example. We are dedicated to reaching out in Christian love to the most vulnerable people in Haiti, the children.
Your love, your compassion, and your willingness to become involved in helping the children in Haiti have truly been an answer to our prayers.
We have learned God honors faithfulness in small things. He trusts us with the bigger things when we are good stewards of those small things. There are many ways we "preach the Gospel" in Haiti. Most of the ways, we do not use words, but we use love! Love speaks louder than all of our words! We show love by feeding the hungry, building schools for the poor, conducting Mobile Medical Clinics, and much more. Thank you for all your help, love, and encouragement, and for the extraordinary sacrifices you have made. Together, we are rescuing and strengthening the Haitian people - one child, one family, and one village at a time.
“Blessed is he who considers the poor.” Psalm 41:1
Gospel to every creature.” We began ministering in the Philippines, India, Jamaica, Haiti, and many other countries. But our hearts were always pulled back to the precious people of Haiti. On July 1st, 1991, we moved to Haiti as full-time Christian missionaries and we have “never looked back... only forward.”
Bobby and Sherry
Everything we do in Haiti is done with integrity and faithfulness to our calling. We are dedicated to making every single dollar donated stretch to meet the critical needs of the Haitian people. We always do everything the best we can to give God all the honor and glory due to Him and to make our donors proud of the money they invest.
Each year, we undergo a very technical audit of our accounting practices in the United States, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. And each year, we receive an excellent report showing that the majority of our expenses go directly to our program services. We feel this lets our donors know just how important they are to us. All of our financial information can be viewed at www.loveachild.com. We are very proud of our accountability to God and our donors.

We never dreamed how far God would take us when we began this journey. Our ministry includes more than we could ever have imagined. We give all the glory to God
and are thankful for the great leaders who help make it such a remarkable success. Special thanks to our office staff, especially Sandra Hazelip, our Executive Director, and her husband, Rad, our Assistant Executive Director, who run everything for us in the States. Without them, it would be impossible for us to work in Haiti.
We really need partners like you to stand with us each month. There are so many ways to become involved. You may want to sponsor food or a remote mountain medical clinic or contribute in any way the Lord may lead you to give. Little is much when we work together for God!
May God bless everyone, Missionaries Bobby and Sherry Burnette

GOD’S HEART FOR THE POOR
“ “
Love in Action: Thank you, Joyce Meyer Ministries - Hand of Hope, for "showing God's love" by sponsoring 272,000 meals each month and for sponsoring the monthly operating costs of our Jesus Healing Center, as well as for building and furnishing our Malnutrition Center. These life-saving outreaches are a blessing to the poorest of the poor!
Thank you also to Pastor Jentezen Franklin and Kingdom Connection Partners for the Kingdom Connection Food Distribution Center, which is the heart of our many outreaches and for sponsoring one container of food each month, 272,000 meals!
Thank you, also Feed My Starving Children for your donation of seven to eleven 40-ft. containers of food each month, with 272,000 meals in each container.
Special thanks to all Love A Child partners who give large, small, or the widow's mite. Every gift counts to a hungry child! May God bless you for "considering and loving" the poor of Haiti.

LOVE IS SOMETHING YOU DO...
We moved to Haiti 31 years ago to continue our journey of faith and compassion to “help the poor.” For years, we had made many short-term trips to Haiti as visiting missionaries, and the overwhelming poverty we witnessed broke our hearts. But it was always the precious children that so deeply touched us. Our work in Haiti is focused on improving the lives of children who suffer under these extreme hardships. One night, I was in the capital city of Port-au-Prince, and it was raining heavily as I walked through the dirty streets. A little girl was squatting on the side of the street with her tiny arm outstretched. She clutched a few pieces of candy in her hand, which her mother had sent her to sell so she could buy some rice to feed her children. I reached down and put some money in her hand, and through her tears, she smiled and said, “Merci” or thank you in Creole.
“Feeding the poor” became the cornerstone of our ministry when we moved to Haiti. We would buy and give them whatever we could bag up – rice, beans, and powdered milk. We then started an orphanage and Christian schools. We loved that we could give children a Christian education and feed them at

the same time! We also began reaching out to poor villages. We travel deep inside Haiti to the “regions beyond,” taking food and water to some of the most remote villages in the country. We have been blessed to receive wonderful, nutrientrich food from our friends at Feed My Starving Children. Last year, we distributed over 25 million meals with the help of our partners, who sponsor the transportation costs to get the food from the States to Haiti. We even share our food with close to 100 other missionary organizations that feed the Haitian poor.
Hunger is rampant in Haiti, and the little children suffer the most. Our feeding programs provide nutritious food to prevent illness, rehabilitate children from malnutrition, and offer hope in the name of Jesus Christ. Love A Child’s greatest joy is feeding hungry children, and as the Lord blesses, we want to increase the scope of our feeding programs. We’re always looking for new regions to serve… regions where the people feel like they’ve been forgotten and are struggling to survive on their own. We, as Christians, have not forgotten about them because “Love Is Something You Do!”
OUR CHILDREN’S HOME:
Years ago, we began our Love A Child Orphanage, which we now call our “Children’s Home,” with four children whose father and mother had died. We had no idea how to operate an orphanage or what it would take, but we knew God wanted these children to be “more than orphans.” He wanted each one to be “a child with a future.” Surrounded by love, more than 80 children now thrive at our Children’s Home.

Many of our children came to us as newborns; some were toddlers, some were abandoned, abused, on the brink of death or, with physical disabilities. Most orphanages in Haiti make the children leave when they turn 18, and sadly enough, many end up on the streets. But we stress “Jesus first and a good education.” Love A Child’s prayer for each child joining our loving family is that they realize their dreams and reach their full potential according to God’s will. We currently have nearly 20 children at various stages of higher education, from medical school to civil engineering and more!
We live here with these children as “one family!” Thank you, partners, who help sponsor these children! They will make Haiti a better place to live!
Each face has a story… to read their personal stories of hope, visit www.loveachild.com.

Where Dreams Come True
Jonas has never stopped smiling since we saved him a little over a year ago. We first met Jonas in the mountains where he was working as a “slave child.” When we rescued him, he had never been to school, never had three meals a day, and on most days, nothing to eat at all! It took a while for Jonas to understand love and hugs! Jonas is now in school, and he loves his Love A Child family.

Jackson's Story
Jackson has had kidney failure since we brought him out of the mountains of Savaan Pit about five years ago. He had Kwashiorkor Malnutrition, and he was “skin and bones” and full of water. We had sent him on many trips to the doctors here in Haiti. Several months ago, he had gone to a doctor and hospital here in Haiti to have a “port” put in for Dialysis. We needed a “Pediatric Dialysis machine” to continue to treat him. By a miracle of God, one of our donors sponsored this machine! We sent two of our nurses to the Dominican Republic, to train on the machine… The dialysis machine for Jackson is now back here at our Children’s Home where we have a special room that has been sterilized and sanitized. It runs all night, and in the morning, Jackson is able to go to school. We give God all the Praise!

PRAISE THE LORD!
FOR ANSWERED PRAYERS…
On August 14th, 2021, a strong, 7.2 magnitude earthquake rocked the southern part of Haiti, severely damaging many cities and burying people in the rubble. More than 2,200 people lost their lives when homes, hospitals, and churches collapsed. Over 12,200 people were injured, and 130,000 houses were damaged or destroyed. There was unbelievable destruction and despair among the Haitian people. God led us to “put our hands to the plow” and take massive steps in earthquake disaster relief efforts for victims who lost everything. With your help, we worked with our Haitian staff and local contacts in these areas (like Mayor Yvrose in Jeremie and Hubert), passing out tons of food, such as rice, beans, cooking oil, etc. Everyone, even our children from the Children’s Home, came together to help give out donated blankets, sheets, handmade children’s clothing, medications, and other disaster relief supplies. We

also distributed more than 2,000 tents to families that lost their homes. It hurt our hearts to see these poor families displaced with no homes and in desperate need. So, we prayed, and, in obedience, we were led to build 100 “Gabion houses” for the earthquake victims. These three-bedroom houses are very strong and are made from local materials using local labor. We want to thank all of our partners who sacrificed, with gifts of all sizes, to care for and provide hope for the poor during the aftermath of this devastating natural disaster. You are changing and saving lives!

Vilmond and his wife are in their late 80s. The earthquake in south Haiti left them and their family of 23 homeless. Thanks to your love, the Lundiçois family are recipients of one of the first thirty homes built by Love A Child in the area of Arnold, Haiti.

GABION HOUSES BUILT FOR THE EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
Saving Little Lives "One Spoonful at a Time" THE MALNUTRITION CENTER

It is a daily struggle for poor families throughout Haiti as they must try to figure out a way to feed their children with "just a tiny little bit." Most Haitian families struggle to survive on less than $2 per day. They cook their little bit of rice or soup and pass around a spoonful of food to each child. Everyone gets a "bite," and if they do not eat it, they could die.
Children live in misery because their mothers and fathers cannot feed them. There are no jobs, nothing grows well in the nutrient-deficient soil, and the children have no choice but to drink "dirty water" to quench their thirst. As a result, too many Haitian children have worms and suffer from malnutrition. They are dying of hunger every day.
Before we developed our Malnutrition Center, malnourished children would come to our adult Jesus Healing Center Clinic to be treated. Doctors would check the child and prescribe medicine, but it was only a "BandAid." It could not stop the malnutrition. We realized we had to do something better to save these precious children.

Our Malnutrition Center has been open for more than a year, and people come from all over Haiti! Malnourished babies and toddlers, like eight-month-old Malaika, are brought to us, often on the brink of death, from remote areas high up in the mountains. We keep these children in our care until they reach their desired weight. All of our tiny patients are given special foods and milk, and we have "around-the-clock" nurses and "mommies" tending to them. They love feeding them, giving them baths, playing with them, and showing them love.
When health is restored and the children reach their intended weight, they return home with lots of nourishing, special food for themselves, their mothers, and the other children in their family. But they must come back for regular check-ups.
The Malnutrition Center is one of our most touching outreaches! We want to thank Joyce Meyer Ministries - Hand of Hope for sponsoring the building of the Malnutrition Clinic and furnishings. We love the little ones that God has entrusted us with. Just look at little Malaika today! There is always such joy in seeing little lives saved!
A BIRTHING CENTER FOR POOR MOTHERS

We are so proud of our Love A Child Birthing Center. This “dream come true” clinic provides poor mothers with the compassionate and quality care needed to safely deliver healthy babies. It is common for poor moms-to-be, who live in the rural “regions beyond” areas of Haiti, to give birth in mud huts on dirt floors in some of the most unsanitary conditions you can imagine. With little or no clean water and nowhere else to turn, babies are born on mud floors with insects and rats running around, and dirty razor blades or rusty tin can lids are often used to cut the umbilical cords. So many mothers and babies die from complications and infections due to unhygienic deliveries.
Mothers come to our Birthing Center from far and wide. They walk or even take a motorbike, and some come on donkeys from the mountains! They are treated with love and great respect and receive the best medical care possible. Going above and beyond routine maternity care, we also provide a variety of classes to help women prepare for a safe and clean birthing experience, including childbirth education,
breastfeeding, nutrition, child development, family planning, and more. We have a full-time OB/GYN physician who oversees our wonderful Haitian nursing staff and midwives. They are some of the best medical professionals in Haiti, dedicated to making the birthing process easier and safer for mom and baby.

All babies are born in clean, sanitized rooms. Outside, “anxious fathers or relatives” can relax in rocking chairs on the front porch, where Christian music is always playing, and we also have “sleeping rooms” for relatives who come from far and need to spend the night. The moms and their family members are all served delicious food, and when they leave, receive wonderful kits filled with diapers, clothing, blankets baby items, etc. We are even able to provide “birth certificates.” This is a “big thing” in Haiti because many people who live in the mountains don’t have birth certificates, and most don’t even know how old they are. And, if you don’t have a birth certificate, you can’t go to school!
Our Birthing Center was built by faith and is truly a gift from God.
“Everything we do for the poor, we do it ‘first class,’ and we give God all the glory!”
"FOOD IS THE BRIDGE" Food For Life Sustainability Projects
There is a Creole Proverb that says, “An empty sack cannot stand…” It means that, when you are hungry, you are weak. You cannot learn as a child and you cannot stand to work as an adult. Food is first. It is always first for helpless children whose families have no jobs.
Love A Child is constantly busy finding and creating jobs! Here, at Love A Child, we have nearly 700 Haitians employed in various jobs. These Haitians are employed at our Jesus Healing Center, Children’s Home, our many schools, offices and more. A job provides food and care for a poor family for a lifetime. But God has also given us other ways of creating jobs such as our Agricultural Training Center and Poul Mirak (Chicken Co-op), reforestation with our Moringa trees, and Gwo Maché Mirak (Grand Miracle Market) and much more.
Rad Hazelip, our Assistant Executive Director, along with our agriculturist, Wilner Exil, have developed a wonderful Agricultural Training Center (ATC) where we teach poor farmers in remote areas how to grow crops with “literally nothing!” They see a dried-up piece of rocky ground become a green, beautiful garden! The young, eager students of the ATC learn to grow plants, make compost and grow productive crops. The trees grown include Moringa, Carambola, Mahogany, Acacia, and Neem, as well as Papaya, Cabbage, Onions, Tomatoes, Spinach, Eggplant, Okra, and much more. They become “miracle gardens” through hard work! After the students graduate, we provide them with garden tools and first-generation seeds! Little by little, this “dream” begins to
grow... just like when God plants a seed in your heart to do something, it starts with something small. As we care for this seed, water it, baby it, watch over it and pray over it, God does bigger things! And we want you to be part of it!
Importance of “Edible Plants” in Haiti’s Agroforestry

A good example of an important “edible plants” reforestation project is growing and propagating Mulberry trees. Years ago, when we were starting our Sustainability Outreach and the Agricultural Training Center (ATC), we only had one donated Mulberry tree.
Now, we have 20 thriving Mulberry trees, bearing tasty and important fruit. Our ATC Director, Wilner, and the ATC staff are now growing another 1,000 seedlings to be given to many poor villages. One mature mulberry tree can feed the children and can also provide “free” feed for their free-ranging chickens. Besides the fruit, mature Mulberry trees also provide shade and stabilize the soil. This Sustainability for Development project is helping Haitians to help themselves for generations to come.
SUSTAINABILITY...

PROVIDING FOOD, HOPE, JOBS AND DIGNITY!
We may take having a job for granted, but it gives us dignity, security, and most of all, hope. We can see this when we look into the faces of those who work at the Agricultural Training Center (ATC) in the gardens, and teaching others in the “regions beyond.”

When we first got our property in Haiti, the land was quite ugly with briar bushes and weeds, etc. After building the Children's Home and other projects, we expanded our vision to have an “Agricultural Training Center.” Wilner is the teacher, and with the help of our Assistant Executive Director, Rad, in the States, this beautiful ATC has become a great success!
This ATC not only provides food for everyone on our property we employ but also for the mothers in our Birthing Center and the children at our Malnutrition Clinic, as well as
our Children's Home. We thank God for this beautiful “harvest” He has given us!
Also, the Gwo Maché Mirak (Grand Miracle Market) and Farmer John’s slaughterhouse are providing jobs, skills, local markets, and better diets. You can see the happiness and dignity our staff experiences as they harvest and share the results of their transforming work. We will continue to feed and help create jobs for the poor in Haiti!
Thank you, partners! And thank you, David Balsbaugh and Hope Seeds for your thousands of seeds to bless the poor.
Little by little, this dream begins to grow... just like when God plants a seed in your heart to do something, it starts with something small.

Love Is Something You Do
Faith, Hope, and Love Devotional - A 90-Day Walk With God.
