LEADING WITH UNITY

OUR CHAMBER’S ROLE IN BRIDGING DIVIDES

In

today’s increasingly polarized environment, it’s easy to feel the weight of division — political, social, and ideological. But amid that tension lies an opportunity — an opportunity for our Chamber to lead with purpose, vision, and unity.

As highlighted in the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives' Horizon 2035 report, Political and Social Fragmentation is one of the most critical timeless forces shaping the future of our communities. Polarization, while not new, poses real challenges to progress and collaboration. Yet, this moment also presents a profound call to action.

Our Chamber is uniquely positioned to be a unifying force. We are a bipartisan, non-partisan organization committed to creating space for inclusive dialogue and collaborative problem-solving. As chambers across the country evolve, their roles are expanding from conveners to catalysts—leaders who do not merely respond to division but work intentionally to build bridges across it.

We are already putting this commitment into action through intentional programming and engagement efforts:

‹ Our Washington D.C. Fly-In (December 2024) brought nearly 50 business leaders from across East Texas—Longview, Tyler, Carthage, Kilgore, Whitehouse, and Lindale—to the nation’s capital. We convened to advocate for common-sense policy solutions on issues such as energy, infrastructure, immigration, and workforce development. From agency visits to strategic briefings with federal officials, our unified voice demonstrated the power of business-led collaboration at the national level.

‹ Our East Texas Chamber Delegation to Austin (March 2025) continues this momentum. Regional chambers are joining forces to advocate for key legislative priorities including broadband expansion, transportation improvements, healthcare accessibility, and energy infrastructure. This collective voice sends a clear message: when chambers lead together, communities thrive.

‹ Our recent Elected Officials Reception (April) serves as a local touchpoint to build bridges right here at home. This annual gathering fosters constructive conversations between business leaders and policymakers, reaffirming our role as conveners of cross-sector dialogue and champions of respectful discourse.

Through these efforts, we are:

‹ Fostering civil discourse and encouraging productive conversations that reflect diverse viewpoints.

‹ Convening cross-sector leaders to find common ground on critical issues.

‹ Promoting inclusive economic growth that benefits all members of our community.

‹ Creating safe spaces for belonging and gathering, where ideas and people connect beyond labels or party lines.

As Horizon 2035 outlines, chambers must serve as trusted anchors in their communities—defining leadership not by what we do, but by who we are. We are conveners. Connectors. Problem solvers. Unifiers.

Let us lean into this responsibility with courage and conviction. In times of fragmentation, unity isn’t just a hope—it’s a necessity.

Together, we can shape a future that reflects the best of our community: resilient, respectful, and resolutely united.

Investing in the Future of Our Community LEADERSHIP LONGVIEW CLASS OF 2025

For more than four decades, Leadership Longview has empowered rising leaders in our city by providing a transformative 9-month program designed to educate, inspire, and mobilize individuals to better serve our community. This year’s class of 27 dedicated individuals has truly exemplified the mission: “To strengthen and transform the community of Longview through a program of leadership development, community study, and involvement.”

Each year, participants engage in monthly sessions focusing on crucial aspects of community life, including Education, Community & Economic Development, Health & Emergency Services, Quality of Life, Criminal Justice, and Leadership Development. The program culminates in a graduation celebration in May, honoring not only what they’ve learned but the lifelong connections they’ve made.

CLASS PROJECT:

Empowering the Next Generation

One of the most impactful components of the program is the class project. For 2025, the Leadership Longview class chose to partner with the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Pines, embracing their mission to "enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."

Their ambitious vision included transforming two classrooms into Learning Labs focused on year-round workforce readiness and STEM learning, along with revitalizing the library and communal area. Through generous donations, countless volunteer hours, and community support, they painted, assembled furniture, and even hosted a book drive to refresh the library collection.

Thanks to the efforts of this incredible class and the support of local businesses and individuals, the Boys & Girls Club now boasts vibrant, functional learning environments that will impact local youth for years to come.

Ribbon Cutting & Graduation

On April 10th, the class hosted a grand reopening ribbon cutting at the Boys & Girls Club, celebrating the completion of their class project.

Graduation for the Class of 2025 will be held on May 8th during the Longview Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Solutions Luncheon.
