Much of Longview’s public art success stems from the ongoing work of Arts!Longview, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 2019 to oversee our state-designated Cultural District.
Born out of inspiration from a Longview Chamber of Commerce Inter-City visit to Waco in 2018, a local task force pursued and earned the prestigious designation from the Texas Commission on the Arts. Today, Arts!Longview manages and promotes the 343-acre Cultural District stretching from Downtown Longview down Mobberly Avenue to LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center.
The organization partners with eight arts and cultural groups, manages the historic Longview Community Center, and offers opportunities for artists through events like the free quarterly ArtWalks. The state designation also opens doors for grant funding, and since 2019, more than $1 million in state funds have flowed into Longview to support the arts.
Their impact is visible everywhere:
• 7 murals, 3 sculptures, and a sculptural bench
• New wayfinding signage, hundreds of banners, and utility box wraps
• A $300,000 renovation to improve the stage at the Longview Community Center
• And more than 30 new businesses opened in Downtown since 2019 With each new addition, Arts!Longview fuels not just creativity - but economic growth, tourism, and renewed community spirit. And they’re just getting started.
LONGVIEW: AN OUTDOOR GALLERY OF COLOR AND CULTURE
Longview’s public art is more than just decoration—it’s a celebration of who we are. Every mural and sculpture adds a layer to our city’s story, showcasing our culture, creativity, and community pride.
So go ahead—paint your day with a little Longview color.
EAST TEXAS is more than piney woods and winding backroads—it’s a region layered with stories, many of which are hidden in dusty corners, tucked in weathered crates, and hanging from the walls of barns-turned-boutiques. For those who crave the thrill of the hunt, a day trip through Gregg County and its neighboring towns offers a treasure trail full of antiques, vintage gems, quirky oddities, and inspiration for every kind of collector. From the curated charm of antique stores to the creative chaos of junk shops and the bustling energy of flea markets, East Texas is a picker’s paradise.
Antiquing is the art of stepping into the past. Shops in Longview, Kilgore, and Gladewater offer a sophisticated browsing experience with curated collections of furniture, fine china, estate jewelry, vintage books, and more—many of which are over 100 years old.
WHO IT’S FOR: Collectors, home decorators, and history buffs.
THE VIBE: Clean, organized, and often accompanied by knowledgeable shop owners who are part historian, part storyteller.
EXPECT TO FIND: Heirloom-quality pieces, rare finds, and thoughtfully displayed collections with stories behind every item.
Not everything needs to be polished to be precious. Junking is about seeing potential in the imperfect—reclaimed wood, rusty signs, chipped furniture, old windows, and forgotten decor just waiting for a second life. This hands-on adventure invites creatives and DIYers to roll up their sleeves and get inspired.
WHO IT’S FOR: Repurposers, upcyclers, bold decorators, and bargain hunters.
THE VIBE: Dig-through-the-piles, askfor-a-deal, and bring-your-own-vision kind of fun.
EXPECT TO FIND: Unpolished treasures, character-filled cast-offs, and raw materials ready for reinvention.
Somewhere between antique sophistication and junk store grit is the colorful chaos of flea markets. You’ll find everything from handmade goods and collectibles to antiques, toys, tools, and the occasional taxidermy piece. Each booth tells a different story—and sometimes the seller does too.
WHO IT’S FOR: Everyone—from serious collectors to weekend wanderers.
THE VIBE: High-energy, full of surprises, and often held outdoors or in repurposed warehouses.
EXPECT TO FIND: A mix of the rare, the ridiculous, the nostalgic, and the just plain fun.
Start your journey in Longview, then make your way through Kilgore, and Gladewater (the “Antique Capital of East Texas”). Each stop offers its own character and collection of shops, with names that reflect the adventure ahead: places like The Curious Wren, Antique Capital RV Park Market, Gladewater Antique Mall, and The Wildflower.
Whether you’re looking for a 19th-century teacup, turquoise jewelry, a weathered rocking chair, or something you didn’t know you needed, you’ll find plenty of places to browse, bargain, and be delighted.
Whether you’re antiquing for a statement piece, junking for a weekend project, or simply soaking up the experience at a local flea market, Gregg County and the surrounding area offer more than just things—they offer stories, creativity, and connection.
So grab your favorite travel buddy, slip on some comfortable shoes, and hit the trail. There’s treasure waiting just down the road.

Look around your home, your car, the doctor’s office or the supermarket, and you’ll find products made with Eastman materials. We’re working to build a better world — today and for future generations. We’re helping solve one of the world’s greatest challenges by taking hardto-recycle plastics, breaking them down to their basic building blocks and creating new plastic materials — right here in Longview. We can do this again and again, diverting plastic waste from landfills and the environment.
Our solutions aren’t the only way we’re making a positive difference. Whether we are preparing students for future STEM careers, conserving and protecting ecosystems or volunteering our time and resources, our investments reflect the rich heritage of Eastman team members around the world. We are building and strengthening partnerships and challenging ourselves to be a good neighbor, enhancing and serving the communities where we live and work.
We are proud to call Longview home for 75 years and counting!
