FebruaryUpdates

Dear Fellow Member,

“Better than I ever imagined”, “Worth every minute away”, “absolutely the greatest project BraeBurn has ever executed”……and the accolades roll on and on. These are just a sampling of comments we received from the Membership since December 11th’s soft opening I could not be prouder of the process, the dedication to quality and the product we have, following the Course Construction Project.

Yes, there are still many course details to get in order and we have a process for that as well. We received some valuable feedback in addition to all the praise; “flags and flagpoles are beautiful but a challenge to see”, “please add some additional sand depots for divot repair”, “please send notices to the Membership regarding course care for our new investment.” All of these items are in process producing solutions. New white background flags are on order, we have more sand bottles being placed in strategic locations throughout the course and Terry and Aaron are preparing communication on how, we as Members/Owners, should best care for the turf health of our fantastic new investment All this excitement has created a demand in all Club activity, specifically for play since daylight hours are short this time of year.

We ask that while we are operating as a 13 holes facility, under our current play policies, that you honor each policy as intended; equitable tee time access for all stakeholders and protection of our greatest physical asset, the golf course.

This excitement has not only boosted golf rounds, but it has also increased all Club activities I strongly urge each of you to stay aware of Club announcements for social activities as well. Many reservations fill up within several hours of a notification being sent out. I’d hate for you to miss out on any gathering or event. This speaks highly to the talent pool we are so fortunate to have at BraeBurn. That warm smile, the genuine caring our Team holds for a great Member experience combined with Chef Pedro’s incredible culinary talent are all contributors to the success of every event

We hope your expectations are exceeded on every trip to the Club. I hope you take as much pride in ownership as I do. I am grateful to play a very small role in your BraeBurn Experience.

See you at the Club,

BOARD CORNER 2

Manager'sMessage

Dear Member,

First, thank each of you for your support during the past 12 months of the Course Construction Project. The project went very well in spite of various hurdles we encountered along the way; rains, material shortages, trucking and transport issues were just a few of the challenges. In the end, and we are certainly not finished, the total project came in on budget and has received rave reviews from the Membership.

The architectural vision of Tripp Davis, the execution of that vision by GreenScapes Methods, and the tireless effort of our fantastic Course Maintenance Team gave us a course that will provide challenge and beauty for generations to follow. This project launched BraeBurn onto the forefront of golf in Houston. The word of this great enhancement did t h th lf it th h

The Management Team did a great job throughout this project as well. Each Club Department was charged with making important, recognizable and sustainable improvements to facilities and services while you were away The greatest of emphasis was placed upon service Each and every Team Member owes every Member the very best experience we can deliver. Prior to reopening each Department had Team meetings to discuss the true value of each and every Member to the Club. For the past 17 years, the Membership of BraeBurn has paid every bill I have, paid every tuition dollar for my children, contributed to every dime I have saved and every vacation I’ve taken This same message was delivered to each Team Member of every Department Club wide prior to reopening the course in December. We hope you feel and see our gratitude on each visit to BraeBurn.

BRAEBIRDS by JIM FRANK | House Finch

After observing birds at BraeBurn for over five years, you know when you see something new, especially when one stands out like this one. It happened during course reconstruction last year near the hole number 16 bridge when I spotted this sparrow-sized bird with a distinctive thick bill and rosy red head, breast, and rump. This grass seed-eater was grazing by itself and not in a large flock like many of our visitors.

This is a male House Finch, a bird common to and a year-round resident of the lower forty-eight states as well as Mexico and Canada. The House Finch is an invasive species in eastern North America having been released in 1939 when pet shop owners on Long Island released a group to avoid prosecution for selling them. They were also introduced to Hawaii in about 1859.

Although they are widespread now, only a handful have been reported in the BraeBurn area, according to eBird.org, but none at BraeBurn itself, until this one.

Jim Frank joined BraeBurn in early 2016. He is a Member of the Greens Committee.
