2. Our Ethos and Values

We know that education is about much more than grades. It’s about growth; personal, academic, and social — and about the values that shape who we are and how we treat others.

Our school ethos, ‘Learn Like a Londoner’, reflects our location at the heart of a global capital and our embrace of the energy, diversity, and opportunity it brings. It means learning from the world around us, being curious, openminded, and bold.

Our values ‘the four Cs’ of Success’

Creativity

We think differently. Whether solving problems, approaching projects or expressing ourselves, creativity is a constant.

Courage

We step up. We take risks in our learning, speak out when it matters, and keep going even when it’s tough.

Collaboration

We’re better together. Learning is a shared journey, and we build stronger outcomes through teamwork, dialogue, and trust.

Compassion

We are kind, thoughtful and inclusive. We support one another through challenges and celebrate each other’s successes.

These values are embedded into every part of school life — from how we teach and learn, to how we resolve conflict, build community, and encourage responsibility and are reflected in our rewards too.

They shape not only who our students are today, but the citizens, creators and leaders they’re becoming.

3. Daily Life

No two days at LPS Mayfair are ever quite the same, but there’s a rhythm and structure that helps students feel settled and supported. This section covers some of the most important aspects of school life: from arrival times and uniform, to rewards, responsibilities, and the people here to help.

Attendance & Absence

Good attendance is one of the simplest ways to help your child succeed and we expect a 95% attendance rate. If a student doesn’t attend school for a period of more than 10 days a year, we are legally obligated to report this. Of course, we hope that will not be necessary and we do understand that there are many reasons why absences occur including illness and unexpected events.

Lateness: If your child arrives after 8.25am, they must sign in at Reception.

Regular attendance fosters continuity, confidence, and academic momentum. If there are any barriers to attendance, please let us know — we’re here to help.

Punctuality is a great life skill, and helps everyone get the day off to a good start.

Important: We do NOT permit students to take holiday during term time and any requests for absence will require a conversation in advance with the Head.

Illness and Medical Issues

Reporting absence due to illness: Please contact Reception: office.mayfair@ londonpark-schools.com before 8.25am and/or log this via MySchoolPortal. If you know about a planned absence in advance (such as a medical appointment), please notify us in writing — either via the Portal or by email to your child’s Tutor and the Deputy Head (Pastoral) – but wherever possible, please organise medical appointments during the holidays.

Sickness

If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please inform Reception by 8.25am at the latest: office.mayfair@ londonparkschools.com (or 020 7491 7393) or use the Sickness log on MySchoolPortal. If your child becomes ill during the day, we’ll contact you as needed. Please ensure all medical information and emergency contacts are up to date in MySchoolPortal. If your child requires medication to be administered at school, this must be handed in to Reception with clear instructions and a completed form via MySchoolPortal.

Allergies and conditions

Please make sure you alert us to any allergies or medical needs via the medical form from Admissions. Please note that we are a nut-free school and do not allow any snacks containing nuts within school.

Uniform: What to wear and when

The LPS uniform is designed to be practical, affordable and comfortable. Students may wear games kit on days they have sport. A detailed uniform list is included in the Appendix, and items can be purchased from our uniform supplier: My School Blazer.

Top tip: Label everything. Really - everything!

Rewards

We love to recognise and celebrate students who exemplify our school values. Praise may come through house points, notes home,or mentions in assembly. We also run House competitions and reward days.

We know that students don’t always get it right and that navigating puberty can add extra complications, so we approach discipline with fairness and consistency. Most issues are resolved with reflection, discussion, and guidance. More serious matters follow a clear behaviour policy, which you can view via MySchoolPortal or on our website.

Housepoints:

‘Housepoints’ are awarded for noteworthy achievement in the classroom as well as admirable conduct. Housepoints are always awarded in line with our school values; courage, collaboration, creativity or compassion.

Housepoints accumulate over the academic year, and result in the following rewards:

Housepoints will also contribute to the annual House competition. The House competition will therefore include not only the inter-house competitions but also contributions from individuals for academic performance and praiseworthy conduct.

PE Commendations and Sports Colours

The PE department rewards outstanding performance, dedication and/or commitment via a system of highly commended certificates and the award of Colours for each sport. (These are fabric strips that can be sewn onto kit).

There are Junior Colours (Years 7, 8, 9) and Senior Colours (Years 10, 11, 12 & 13).

Outstanding Attendance

Any students who achieve above 95% attendance in a half term will receive a reward certificate, and an experience such as ‘wear your own clothes’ or ‘skip the lunch queue’.

Other Achievements

Any achievements, trophies, certificates won in any activity should be passed to the Head for recognition and presentation in a whole school assembly.

Sanctions:

A negative behaviour point is called a ‘warning’ - these are logged for minor behaviour infringements such as poor uniform, lateness, lack of equipment, shouting out in class.

Warnings accumulate to result in the following sanctions: Number of Written

Form tutor discussion for each of these warnings

Contact home to be made

School community service –Monday lunch time

After school reflective workshop supervised by Head of Section

invited for meeting with HoS/DHP - student present

Serious sanction considered by Head

Depending on student age, the nature of the offence and the severity of the behaviour, the school will use a range of strategies to correct student behaviour, and staff can use their own judgement on which Sanction should be issued for serious behaviour incidents.

Serious behaviour incidents will be referred to the Head, who may issue a suspension or exclusion.

Homework

Homework is an essential part of the curriculum. All homework and coursework assignments should be handed in on time (as dictated by the teacher) in accordance with the homework timetable. Please note that homework will not be set in PSHE or PE (unless chosen as a GCSE option). If homework is not completed or is completed in an unsatisfactory manner students will be required to attend a homework club to catch up on work missed. Homework club will override any other club. Students who fail to attend homework club will be issued with a sanction.

Lunchtimes and Breaks

At break time and lunch time Years 7-9 will be escorted to Green Park to enjoy some time outside.

Year 10 will have the option of joining Year 7-9 in the park, or spending time relaxing in the Senior Common Room.

Year 11 will be permitted to sign out for lunch, but only with parental consent and after completing the relevant training.

Bathroom breaks

We strongly encourage students to take the opportunity to use the bathrooms during break and lunch times. If a student must leave the classroom to go to the bathroom, this should be an exception and they will be escorted there by a member of the Pastoral Team.

Students with medical or other circumstances which may mean they need to use the bathroom outside of break and lunch time will be issued with a toilet pass.

School rules

Please see our website to view our Behaviour Policy.

Lockdown/Fire drill / Emergencies

It is our priority to keep everyone safe, and so we have regular fire and lockdown drills. Students will be briefed on what to do in these scenarios by their form tutors.

Food Glorious Food!

Schools, like armies, do best when they are fed well. Luckily for us, our catering partners, Holroyd Howe, provide us with a selection of delicious meals every day. Menus are seasonal, varied and cater to all dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options. There are also opportunities for tasting menus, celebratory days and more.

Whilst our food is delicious, we also believe that mealtimes are about more than the food, they’re a chance to recharge, chat with friends and staff in the middle of a busy school day. Our wonderful London-themed canteen has no set seating and students are free to choose where they sit.

There are two lunch sittings each day and students should check their individual timetables to see which one they have each day, as they will vary.

Students are welcome to bring a healthy snack for morning break. Please remember we are a nut free school, so these ingredients should be avoided to protect those with allergies.

Please remember to let us know of any allergies or food requirements, by completing relevant dietary and medical forms available from Admissions.

4. Communications

Your child’s form tutor or head of section should always be your first port of call. If they feel a concern or question needs to be escalated, they will pass this up the line. Of course, for any serious concerns, you can always contact a member of the senior team or the Head directly.

We try to keep the email traffic as light as possible and use our parent portal, MySchoolPortal for most communications so that you can see everything in one place.

Staying In Touch

Every Friday there are general all-school comms for parents from the Head and other staff via our Parent Portal, My School Portal.

Our Parent Portal: MySchoolPortal

Through MySchoolPortal, you have secure, 24/7 access to personalised data about your child via one username and password. From one intuitive and simple-to-use dashboard, you can access emails, reports, attendance records, and timetables, from your desktop, tablet, or smartphone.

Importantly, because we’ve moved all personal data to a restricted, user-only portal it ensures that only the right people see the right information. It’s easy to access and once logged in, you should find it intuitive to navigate around. To gain access to your account, follow the steps below.

• To access the portal, go to https://lpsmayfairsixth.myschoolportal. co.uk/login.

• Using your email address (the one you received this email to), request a new password.

• You’ll now receive an email from My School Portal, follow the instructions in the email.

• If you’re experiencing difficulties getting into your My School Portal  account, please contact Rebecca  Schoeman – Rebecca. schoeman@ dukeseducation.com

We also send out a twice-termly newsletter which highlights some of the term’s activities. We always welcome feedback and participation too.

We use social media to showcase some of the many things that take place in school as well and our students are important ambassadors and creators of this with usplease follow us.

5. Our Digital World

Technology is part of daily life at LPS Mayfair — whether we’re using laptops in lessons, collaborating on Teams, or exploring creative digital projects. But we also believe in balance: developing thoughtful, responsible digital habits that serve learning and wellbeing alike.

IT and Laptops

All students at LPS Mayfair, Hybrid and Sixth use laptops for learning. These are preloaded with the tools and platforms they need — from Microsoft 365 and Teams, to subject-specific software.

You can purchase a school-approved device via our dedicated portal: LPS Laptop Shop. Our IT support team is always on hand if you hit a technical snag (it.support@londonparkschools.com).

Top tip: Encourage regular backups, naming and responsible care — cases and chargers have a habit of going walkabout.

AI

Artificial Intelligence is here to stay and we’re embracing it wisely. We help students understand how to use AI tools (like ChatGPT or Grammarly) ethically and thoughtfully, whether to support revision, clarify tricky concepts, or generate ideas. It’s a chance to learn critical thinking, digital literacy, and the value of human judgement. We also set clear boundaries around what counts as independent work and help students reflect on when AI helps, and when it hinders.

Online Safety

We take digital safety seriously. Online safety is covered through PSHE and IT lessons, and our school network has strong safeguards in place.

Topics we cover include:

• Healthy screen time habits

• Recognising misinformation

• Social media boundaries

• Reporting concerns

We encourage parents to stay informed and keep the conversation going at home.

Mobile Phones & Smart Watches

Students may bring a mobile phone or Smart Watch to school, but they must be switched off and handed in at the start of the day. This helps everyone stay present and focused.

Phones and watches are stored securely and returned at the end of the school day. If a student is seen using a phone or a smart watch during the day, it will be held at Reception and returned after a discussion with a member of staff.

6. Safeguarding and Wellbeing

Nothing matters more than the safety and wellbeing of our students. The wellbeing of our students isn’t just a priority — it’s a guiding principle. Every child should feel safe, supported, and known. We work hard to build a culture where care, kindness, and trust underpin everything we do.

We know that learning flourishes when students feel safe, supported, and well, in body and mind. That’s why we place such strong emphasis on care, kindness, and connection. If some-thing’s not right, we want to know, and we want our students to know they’re not alone.

Every member of staff is trained in safeguarding and child protection, and we follow clear procedures to ensure that students feel safe, heard, and supported.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Ms Hannah Sheehy (Deputy Head Pastoral), supported by a trained team of deputies. If you have any concerns about the safety or welfare of a child, your own or anyone else’s, please contact Ms Sheehy or another member of the safeguarding team immediately.

We empower students to understand their rights, speak up, and support each other. Through PSHE and assemblies, we explore topics like mental health, digital safety, healthy relationships and consent, always with care and clarity.

You can read our full Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy on the website or via MySchool Portal.

We believe that safeguarding is a shared responsibility. If something doesn’t feel right - say something. We will always listen and take concerns seriously.

The Superpower of Smaller

Being a deliberately smaller school means we get to know every student, their interests, their quirks, their potential, and their needs. It means we notice when something’s not quite right, and we’re able to act quickly and thoughtfully. Students aren’t lost in the crowd — they’re seen, heard, and valued.

Tutor System

Every student meets their Tutor daily — a familiar face who tracks their progress, celebrates their wins, and checks in on how they’re doing. Tutors build close, trusting relationships with their tutees and are often the first port of call for both students and parents. It’s these consistent, small touch points that can make the biggest difference.

Houses

Every student belongs to one of four LPS Houses, named after London’s iconic green spaces. The Houses aren’t just for competition — they’re families within the family. They build connection across year groups, boost confidence, and foster a little friendly rivalry along the way. Throughout the year, Houses compete for points in quizzes, Sports Day, charity events, and other whole-school activities.

• Hyde (Yellow) — Head of House: Ms Camryn Pederson

• St James (Blue) — Head of House: tbc

• Regent (Red) — Head of House: Mr Lewys Steward

• Green (Green) — Head of House: Mr Ben Watkins

Each House is also twinned with a sister House at LPS Clapham, allowing for joint events and sports fixtures across the group.

Concerns or Worries

Everyone has ups and downs. Whether it’s a friendship blip, a moment of stress, or something more serious, we’re here to listen and help.

Students can talk to their Form Tutor, a trusted teacher, or our Deputy Head (Pastoral). We also have a dedicated School Counsellor, and regular opportunities for student voice and feedback.

If you have a concern, however small, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Open, early communication is the best way to make sure everyone feels heard and supported.

7. Academic Life

We believe learning should be rigorous, relevant and deeply engaging. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity — with small class sizes and expert teachers at the heart of it all.

Each student is seen as an individual learner with their own strengths, needs and ambitions. Through a combination of subject depth, personalised feedback, and pastoral guidance, we aim to help students develop not only academically, but in confidence and independence too.

Homework

At the start of each academic year we hold curriculum evenings which explains what your child will be learning this year. Homework supports learning beyond the classroom — helping students consolidate knowledge, practise what they’ve learned at school, and prepare for upcoming topics. It also builds independence and good habits for life.

Homework is set via Microsoft Teams and varies depending on year group:

• In Years 7–9, students can expect 2–3 short tasks each evening

• In Years 10–11, homework becomes more intensive in preparation for GCSEs

We encourage students to manage their time well and speak up if anything becomes overwhelming. Parents can support by creating a calm space at home and checking Teams regularly.

Assessment & Reporting

Assessment isn’t just about grades — it’s about understanding how each student is progressing, where they’re thriving, and where support may be needed.

We use a mix of formative (in-lesson) and summative (more formal) assessments throughout the year.

Parents receive regular reports, and we hold scheduled parent-teacher evenings to discuss progress in depth twice a year.

8. Learning Enrichment: The Loft

At LPS Mayfair, we know that no two learners are the same — and we celebrate the individuality of every student. Our Learning Enrichment department, fondly known as The Loft, is where tailored support meets high aspiration.

The Loft is there for students who – for whatever reason - may benefit from a little extra support. It’s a space where students

can develop strategies for organisation, time management, and academic confidence. We work closely with students, parents, and teaching staff to ensure every learner has a personalised plan that fits their needs — whether that’s a Student Passport, a targeted intervention, or a quiet space to refocus. We also coordinate access arrangements for exams where appropriate.

9. Co-Curricular Life

Our co-curricular programme is an essential part of school life — giving students the chance to explore, express, and expand their horizons.

Sport

We believe in sport for all — for fitness, fun, teamwork and personal growth. Students take part in a wide range of sports, including football, netball, athletics, and more. Whether competing in fixtures or learning new skills, we encourage participation and pride in effort.

Fixtures, training schedules and kit information will be shared at the start of each term and can be seen via the sports website we share with our sibling school, LPS Clapham.

Drama

Our drama programme is full of energy and opportunity — from timetabled classes to co-curricular productions and clubs. Students can explore performance, production, direction, and even scriptwriting. There are chances to take part in house drama, school shows, and trips to London theatres.

We offer LAMDA lessons too – please sign up via MySchoolPortal.

Music

Music is a key part of life at Mayfair. Students can join choirs, ensembles, or bands — and take instrumental or vocal lessons with our visiting peripatetic teachers.

Performance opportunities abound, from informal concerts to showcase events and collaborations with other Dukes schools.

Each year we celebrate the Arts via our MADness programme where music, art and drama collaborate together to provide a magnificent showcase of our creativity.

Empowerment

Trips & Visits

Being in central London, we take full advantage of the city’s cultural life — from museums and galleries to theatres and science hubs. Day trips link to curriculum learning, enrichment and student leadership.

Each year, there’s also a selection of optional residential trips — recent highlights include:

• A Geography trip to Iceland

• A History trip to France

• A Sports tour to Majorca

• A Psychology trip to Disneyland Paris

• A Ski trip for winter sports lovers

Full details are shared well in advance and always include guidance on costs, logistics and requirements.

Our Empowerment Programme runs weekly and is a cornerstone of LPS life. From public speaking and debating to student council and social impact projects, we nurture confidence, initiative and leadership. Every student is encouraged to find their voice and use it with purpose.

10. Extra-Curricular

Clubs

Beyond lessons and core co-curricular activities, our club offering provides students with a chance to try something new, develop a passion, or simply enjoy time with friends in a relaxed environment.

We offer clubs across a wide range of interests — from coding and chess to creative writing, film, board games, current affairs, and more. Club schedules are based on student feedback and interest and thus updated termly and shared on MySchoolPortal.

How to sign up: Students receive a sign-up form at the start of each term. Many clubs are free; some external providers (such as LAMDA or instrumental tuition) may incur a charge.

11. Transport and Travel

One of the joys of LPS Mayfair’s location is how well connected we are. Our school is right in the heart of central London — just a short walk from Green Park station and a short walk to London’s rich cultural life including museums, galleries and theatres.

Most students travel independently by Tube, bus or on foot, but we understand that travel arrangements vary from family to family.

We encourage sustainable travel wherever possible — walking, cycling, or using public transport are all great options.

If you have any questions about travel safety or routines, do get in touch with your child’s Tutor or the school office.

Top tips for travel:

• Encourage students to plan their route and know their timings

• Pack an Oyster card or Zip card with credit

• Remind students to be mindful and safe when travelling alone or in groups

12. The Broader family

London Park Schools

London Park School Mayfair is part of a wider family of schools — including LPS Clapham, LPS Sixth Form, and LPS Hybrid. Together, we share an ethos of innovation, personalisation and deep respect for the individual journey of every student. This connection means shared opportunities — from joint events and enrichment programmes to shared teaching expertise and student networks. Students from across the LPS family come together regularly for sport, academic challenges, creative projects, and social action initiatives. If your family is new to LPS, you’re also joining a growing community of parents, alumni, and educators who share a belief in education that looks forward, adapts quickly, and keeps wellbeing and character at its heart.

Dukes Education & The Dukes Club

LPS Mayfair is part of the Dukes Education Group — a collective of leading schools, colleges, and nurseries, united by a shared commitment to quality, care and curiosity. Being part of Dukes opens up wider networks and benefits — including access to:

13. Parents’ AssociationThe Friends of LPS

Schools work best when families are part of the picture. From welcome coffees to quiz nights, The Friends of LPS is the beating heart of our parental network — a brilliant group of volunteers who help build connection and camaraderie beyond the school.

Whether you’re a natural organiser or just keen to feel more involved, there’s a place for everyone. Helping out doesn’t have to mean big commitments — even lending a hand once or twice a term makes a difference. And for new families, it’s a lovely way to get to know others.

What do The Friends do? They help run:

• Parent socials (from welcome drinks to festive gatherings)

• Fundraising for student and school initiatives

• Coffee mornings and talks

• Supporting staff appreciation events

• Helping with whole-school events like concerts and open evenings

• They’re also brilliant at welcoming new parents and ensuring no one feels like they’re navigating school life alone.

LPS Mayfair leads seamlessly to LPS Sixth and unless otherwise informed, we assume (and hope) that our students will move on to LPS Sixth for their A Levels.

For those who leave us, our connection doesn’t end at graduation. LPS Mayfair alumni become part of a growing community of former students who go on to do remarkable things.

We love to keep in touch, share news, and invite alumni back to speak, mentor, or reconnect at events. If you’re a former student — or the parent of one — please keep your details up to date so we can include you in future invitations.
