COVID Around The World
COVID-19 has hit the whole world, each country has had a different way of handling it. Some countries have opened up more, and some have even been able to get back to normal life.
New Zealand has had the biggest concert since the lockdown with 20,000 people. On January 16 in Waitangi, New Zealand group, Six60 held a concert, they have a six-date nationwide summer tour. New Zealand has had a total of 25 deaths and 2,304 cases.
According to bbc.com, at the beginning of 2021 many countries set earlier curfews, and stay at home orders. France has a curfew from 6:00p.m. to 6:00a.m. shops and businesses are closed from that time, and people need to be at home. They’ve also closed their border to all non-EU countries since January 31st. In Germany non-essential shops, hairdressers, schools, restaurants, bars and leisure centres remain closed. In January a new rule was announced that people can’t use homemade cloth masks or scarves as face coverings in shops and on public transport, and it will be in place till at least February 14.
In Italy, a curfew from 10:00p.m. to 5:00a.m. remains in place, travel between Italy’s 20 regions is banned until 15 February, and mask-wearing is mandatory. Belgium’s lockdown has been extended until 1 March, all nonessential travel is banned until then.
Ezekiel Eliamani (12) stated, “Other countries that had greater outbreaks got a handle on the virus much sooner so I think the US could do more.”
Isabel Genovez (11) said, “I think that as a whole our country could be more cautious and work together by staying home when you can, social distancing, and wearing your mask to help slow the spread of the virus.”
Lia Hutchins (9) stated, “I missed my 8th grade graduation, a ton of things for school as we all did and of course just parties my whole family would throw or just traveling to places.”
Ashley Bvundura (10) said, “I have pretty much all medical field aunts and it honestly sucks that I can’t just hug them.” The USA is attempting to flatten the curve with shutdowns and recuring facemasks in public places.
All the things mentioned above have been done to control the spread of COVID-19, it’s important that in order to lift restrictions we must do our part with wearing masks and social distancing.
