Students have just recently started a new semester at Loma Linda Academy, this new semester brings new classes for many people. These classes may require more work than what was expected of students in the past. To deal with this extra work some students have shared some things that help them keep up with schoolwork.

Students have mixed opinions about virtual learning. Zane Rice (12) said “Some classes are harder to do, like math and science. Other classes haven’t been affected as much like English and Bible. It is definitely harder to pay attention now that we’re not in classrooms.” Andrew delaRoca (10) said that “It is very different, you have more freedom in-person to ask friends and other people, online you can’t talk to people if you don’t have their contact information. You have to form FaceTime calls if you want to have study sessions.” Leslie Rodriguez (10) shared some of the positives of online classes for her because she has zero period PE she can wake up later now that she doesn’t have to get to school early, teachers are also more accessible now, they answer messages faster and are more flexible with their office hours. Students seem to agree that there are positives and negatives to online school.

Virtual learning has caused many students to change how they approach their schoolwork delaRoca said “It’s been hard having to learn how to use new programs” throughout the past year students have had to learn how to use many new tools like MyLLA, Zoom, Google Classroom, and Canvas. It has also let people change their schedules Rodriguez likes that she can stay up, later doing homework and get up later. “I can get more sleep now and can stay up later doing homework.”

Students have shared some tips that help them keep up with their studies. Rodriguez said that it is easier to study now “Since COVID hit it’s easier to start studying for tests, for some tests, I start to study a few days before or I at least have a plan instead of just doing it as it comes.” delaRoca says that a study schedule can help too “You should prioritize classes and work in that order, … focus on something for at least 15 minutes and then take a break and then get back to studying.”

To be successful in classwork, make sure to stay organized. Organization helps in all areas of studying for success.

“I recommend short sessions [of studying] with breaks in between.” -Andrew delaRoca
