Why an Active Lifestyle Matters
In today’s fast-paced world, it is all too easy to neglect our physical health. The demands of work, family, and technology often compete for our attention, pushing exercise to the bottom of our to-do lists. Yet, the benefits of keeping fit extend far beyond the obvious physical improvements. Regular activity enhances mental health, alleviates stress, and fosters a sense of accomplishment that radiates into every aspect of life.
Keeping fit need not mean training for a marathon or spending hours at the gym. It can be as simple as taking a brisk walk during lunch, cycling to work, or choosing the stairs over the lift. These small, consistent choices accumulate, building a foundation for lasting well-being.
Moreover, staying active can inspire those around us - family, friends, and colleagues—to make positive changes themselves. Fitness is not a solitary pursuit; it has the power to create stronger communities and happier lives. By prioritising movement, we honour our bodies and invest in our futures. As the saying goes, “motion is lotion”- and never has that been more true than now. Let us all make the commitment to keep fit, for ourselves and for those we love.

Sea Goals
Get crafty this summer by turning items from the beach into works of art.
Summer beach days can often be so wonder ful that you wish they’d last forever, so why not take a few bits home and turn them into something you can admire all year round?
From gorgeous sea glass to special shells and even hunks of driftwood, many seaside treasures can be transformed into ar t with a little know how
Driftwood
Finding a good hunk of driftwood can feel like a big win. Search for a piece that is sturdy, dr y and neither too big nor too small so that it can have several uses.
Either hang it in its untouched form, or adorn the wood with acr ylic paints, and varnish to create a summer y picture or phrase such as ‘life’s a beach!” Strong, larger pieces can be repurposed as shelves for small trinkets, or you can drill holes in the wood to make a rustic candle holder.
Seashells
The trick to making seashell ar t that doesn’t look like it’s been
crafted by a five year- old, is to keep it simple an in muted shades.
Thus, transform smal seashells into pe earrings, or brac drilling tiny holes into the shells and attaching them to wire or thread. Using gold or silver beads alongside the shells will keep your jeweller y looking classy
Large shells can be filled with wax and a wick to make a candle, or using a candle mould layer the shells around the wick before pouring the wax in
Another option for shells is to create a windchime, and to avoid feeling kitsch, add small bits of driftwood as well
Sea glass
Sea glass is truly a treasure of the ocean and can be polished to look like something far more precious than a mere beach find
Make stunning jeweller y pieces by wrapping sea glass in wire and attaching it to chains or earring hooks, or create colour ful mosaics by arranging pieces of sea glass on a wooden board or canvas by securing the glass with adhesive, filling in any gaps with grout
These can be used as wall ar t, coasters or decorative trays.
Pebbles
Pebbles may not seem like the most exciting thing in the world, but they can be both useful and charming. Using acr ylic paint or pens, inscribe the names of herbs, flowers or vegetables on smooth pebbles and place them in your garden as markers
Another wonder ful use is to engage children in your beach craft fun by letting them decorate stones and perhaps even use them to create a treasure hunt because, after all, one man’s beach debris can be a true ar tist’s goldmine.

Food & Drink Greek Chicken Gyros with Tzatziki sauce
These homemade Greek chicken gyros are bursting with flavour, marinated chicken, fresh salad and cool creamy Tzatziki all wrapped in a warm pitta.
1. Marinate the chicken:
In a large bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of olive oil, the juice of 1 lemon, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, and a generous pinch of salt and black pepper. Add 2–4 boneless chicken breasts or thighs and turn to coat them well in the marinade. Cover the bowl and place it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. For best flavour, marinate overnight if you have the time.
2. Cook the chicken: Heat a drizzle of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated chicken. Cook for around 6–7 minutes on each side until golden on the outside and fully cooked inside. Remove from the pan and let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips. Resting helps keep the chicken juicy.
3. Make the tzatziki sauce:
Grate half a cucumber and use a clean tea towel or paper towel to squeeze out the excess moisture. In a bowl, combine the grated cucumber with 200g of thick Greek yoghurt, 1 minced garlic clove, a squeeze of lemon juice, a pinch of salt, and some finely chopped fresh dill. Stir everything together and pop it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. This cooling sauce really brings the gyros to life!
Ingredients:
For the chicken marinade:
• 600g Boneless & skinless chicken thighs or breasts
• 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
• 2 Garlic Cloves (minced)
• 2 tsp dried oregano
• 3 tbsp Olive oil
4. Assemble your gyros:
Warm the pitta breads either in a dry frying pan, toaster, or low oven until soft and pliable. To each warm pitta, add a handful of shredded lettuce, a few slices of tomato and red onion, followed by a generous portion of the sliced chicken. Top it all off with a good dollop of your homemade tzatziki.
5. Wrap and enjoy: Fold the pitta into a wrap or serve it open-style like a flatbread. Great for summer lunches, garden gatherings, or a quick and tasty midweek dinner.

Hey Pesto!
Bringing unbelievable flavour to a multitude of dishes, from subtle right through to boldherbs truly do break the mould.
Brilliant basil
Basil is the star of pesto and even if that were its sole culinar y contribution (though of course it isn’t ) it would be enough to make it a staple in ever y kitchen.
To make a classic pesto, blend fresh basil leaves with pine nuts, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil in a food processor or blender
A highly versatile sauce, pesto can be stirred into to pasta for a hot or cold dinner treat, spread on sandwiches, tossed through salads, or placed atop pizzas Need a quick dinner? Hey pesto
Thyme time
Thyme is a robust herb that works well with roasted meats, stews, and vegetables
Rub a mixture of fresh thyme, garlic, lemon zest and olive oil under the skin of a whole chicken before roasting. The thyme will infuse the meat with a wonder ful aroma and taste.
You can also toss chopped carrots, potatoes and onions with fresh thyme, olive oil, salt and pepper. Then simply roast until the vegetables are tender and caramelised for a superb side dish.
Rosemar y, baby
Rosemar y has a unique, soothing pine-like fragrance which, weirdly, doesn’t overpower when cooked.
Season lamb chops with fresh rosemar y, garlic and olive oil before grilling or roasting and include it with your Sunday spuds for roasties that have exceptional depth and flavour.
Cor! Coriander
Coriander can be a bit hit and miss for some people. A bit like Marmite, the flavour will either tantalise tastebuds with its zippy tang, or leave one feeling like their mouth has been washed out with soap
Regardless, it adds an essential smack to proper salsa and guacamole, and is often sprinkled over curr y to add a fresh contrast the rich sauce.
Pass the parsley
Those green flecks on garlic bread? Parsley. That meunière sauce that oozes over your panfried seabass, all browned butter, capers, lemon and… parsley!
That delectable tabbouleh you buy from the Lebanese stall at the farmers’ market? Bulgar wheat, mint, tomatoes, red onion, olive and a ton of parsley!
Perhaps it is its mild flavour that makes parsley so versatile, or the fact that it is said to cleanse the
breath after consuming garlic. Or maybe it’s just an awesome herb
Mint
Mint is a herb often likened with the warmer months, possibly because of its association with popular cocktails such as mojitos, caipirinhas and mint juleps
However, mint has more to offer than par ty vibes - in fact, dried mint can elevate the humble combination of grated carrot and lemon juice to legendar y salad status
Mixed with yogur t it is transformed into the cooling raita that soothes a tongue made hot with curr y, and it makes new potatoes the spring treat ever yone loves. Basically, it’s mint
Pink Lemonade
This pink lemonade is super bright and fun. Plus, the recipe makes a delicious raspberry syrup that can be kept in the fridge and used in other drinks or over ice cream.
Method:
1. To make the raspberry syrup, put the raspberries in a saucepan with 2 tablespoons water. Bring to a simmer over a medium heat, stirring occasionally as the berries begin to soften and release their juices. Gently cook for 5 minutes, or until the berries have completely broken down.
2. Strain the berries through a fine sieve or a jelly bag, suspended over a bowl, for a couple of hours to extract all the lovely juices. You can give the berries a squeeze with the back of a spoon to get any last few drops out. You should have about 150ml/¼ pint juice.
3. Add the raspberry juice to a saucepan with the lemon juice and caster sugar. Cook gently over a medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Pour into a clean jam jar and set aside to cool. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
4. To make the lemonade, mix the lemon and lime juice, raspberry syrup and caster sugar in a jug. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Add 575ml/1 pint water and plenty of ice.
Ingredients:
For the raspberry syrup
• 250g/9oz frozen raspberries
• ½ lemon, juice only
• 100g/3½oz caster sugar
For the lemonade
• 3½ lemons, juice only
• 1 lime, juice only
• 2 tbsp raspberry syrup (from above)
• 100g/3½oz caster sugar, to taste
• ice, to serve
