Can you tell the reader What was the incident happened in your life that you would like to share with Readers? What are the things you should watch out when you are growing up? One incident that happened in my life was that in my sophomore and junior year of high school, I was granted the opportunity to represent my academy. In the year 2017 and 2018, I represented my academy as the top student.
What is that one thing you did that anyone can do to achieve One thing I was able to achieve that anyone can also achieve, is learn how to play a new sport in high school. Starting my sophomore year of high school I tried out for the women’s tennis team and I was able to make the varsity team up to my semior year. Anyone is able to achieve anything they want to do in life, it takes time and dedication to make it happen.
Who was the most influential person in your life besides your My sister Mayra always encourages me to move forward and tackle any problem that may come my way because no obstacle is impossible to overcome. Anytime I lost one of my tennis matches I felt sad because I felt like I let my team down, but my sister was always there to pick me back up. Was there a teacher that inspired you in the classroom? How? The Child Development teacher, Mrs. Day, is one of the teachers on campus that is always available to help any student, no matter what issues the student may be going through. Mrs. Day always goes out of her way to find resources that are available for her students. I have learned from her that no obstacle is hard to overcome as long as you set your mind toward achieving it.
¿Cuál fue el incidente que ocurrió en su vida que le gustaría compartir con los lectores? ¿Cuáles son las cosas que debes tener en cuenta cuando estás creciendo? Un incidente que sucedió en mi vida fue que en mi segundo y tercer año de secundaria, se me concedió la oportunidad, enn el año 2017 y 2018, de representar a mi academia, como el mejor estudiante. ¿Qué es lo que hiciste que alguien puede hacer para lograr lo que Una cosa que logré que cualquiera también puede lograr, es aprender a practicar un nuevo deporte en la escuela secundaria. A partir de mi segundo año de preparatoria, probé para el equipo de tenis femenino y pude formar parte del equipo de varsity. Jugué en el equipo universitario de mujeres desde mi segundo año de bachillerato hasta mi último año. Cualquiera puede lograr cualquier cosa que quiera hacer en la vida, solo se necesita tiempo y dedicación para que todo suceda. ¿Quién es la persona más influyente en tu vida además de tus padres? Mi hermana Mayra siempre me alienta a seguir adelante y abordar cualquier problema que pueda surgir porque no es imposible superar ningún obstáculo. Cada vez que perdía uno de mis partidos de tenis, me sentía muy triste porque sentía que había decepcionado a mi equipo, pero mi hermana siempre estaba allí para recogerme.
¿Hay un maestro que te ha inspirado en el aula? ¿Cómo? La maestra de Desarrollo Infantil, la Sra. Day, es una de las maestras en el campus que siempre está disponible para ayudar a cualquier estudiante, sin importar los problemas que el estudiante esté atravesando. La Sra. When I entered high school, I thought I would have a lot of trouble making friends since most of them had moved away to a different high school. When I had heard that some of them were going to try out tennis, I became interested in trying out the sport myself so I may see them again someday. I believe the best way to enjoy the future is to establish a memorable present.

My friend Hannah, who has stuck by my side for several years now. She has taught me that something so simple as the eagerness to learn and to experience new things will take you a long way toward success in life.

Mr. Day, who taught me for three years in five different classes. The rigorous workload he assigns to his students challenged me to develop better learning habits and helped develop mental endurance, which has let me play hard whenever I am on the tennis courts.

Coming from a low income background is not a bad thing, but it does teach you to put more hard work into everything you do and to be humble for the things you have in your life. The key to succeeding is to then surround yourself with people who are succeeding and have that mindset.
No es algo malo que provenga de un entorno de bajos ingresos, pero te enseña a poner más esfuerzo en todo lo que haces y a ser humilde por las cosas que tienes en tu vida. Y realmente la clave para tener éxito es rodearse de personas que también lo están logrando y que tienen esa mentalidad.
What is that one thing you did that anyone can do to achieve what you have?

I think I’ve achieved what I have now by being kind to my friends and family. I believe everyone has the capacity of being kind towards one another. It’s probably one of the simplest things to do and also it just makes life easier.

Who was the most influential person in your life besides your parents?

Besides my parents, I love my younger brother Francisco. He’s always so thoughtful about life and gets through any challenges no matter what it is. I admire how patient he can be during tough times and his ability to manage his time, especially when getting school work done. He’s someone I can count on to be there for me and I absolutely adore him.
Además de mis padres, amo a mi hermano menor Francisco. Él siempre está tan atento a la vida y supera cualquier desafío sin importar cuál sea. Scholarship Update
I did well last quarter (all As on my three classes at UCLA). Please extend my appreciation to my donors. I will use their scholarship money to attend summer school after spring quarter. Thank you so much Mr. Desai, for everything.
Also, please let Rita, Breenu and Saihaj know that I switched majors again to BioEngineering: BioTechnology. I decided that after one quarter of work in a NanoEngineering Lab, what I really wanted from NanoEngineering was an exposure to medicine. As a result, I am planning to continue working in my NanoMedicine Lab under Dr. Liangfang Zhang.
I am doing good in all my classes so far. All my professors and TAs are very helpful and care about their students. Next quarter, I plan on taking SE 3 (Structural Engineering course involving graphical communications), Physics 2B, Physics 2BL, and Doc 3 (writing course). Overall, my experience at UC San Diego has been great so far and I hope to become a successful civil engineer in the future.
I've been doing well, been busy. My college plan is still the same. I hope to graduate in three years (2021) with a BS in Informatics and a minor in Management. Although, I have been exploring other venues. I started freelancing for graphic design and currently have a contract job as a content creator for a real estate company. My responsibilities include creating flyers for their company.

“Discovering Vy Nguyen” Watch Video
My name is Vy Doan Nguyen, from the Bay Area. I was born in SaiGon, Vietnam and moved to the United States as a young kid in the early 90s with my parents. I went to school in Hayward, and attended San Jose State University for my Bachelor’s and my Masters. I paint, do commissioned art and also work as an occupational therapist at Washington hospital.
Tôi tên Vy Doan Nguyen, ở vùng Bay Area, sinh ở SaiGon, Vietnam. Tôi đến đây lúc nhỏ với gia đình đầu thời 90s. Tôi đi học và lớn lên ở Hayward, đi học đại học và lấy Masters ở San Jose State University. Tôi làm ở vật lý trị liệu và thời gian còn lại dùng để vẽ và sơn tranh hội họa.

What brought you to Silicon Valley? My parents decided to settle in the Bay Area/ San Jose area as they wanted to be near my uncle and aunts, and to be near the Vietnamese community, as they say, “it feels like home here”.
How did you get interested in Art? It must’ve always been in my blood and in my heart! When I was a baby, my parent told me that whenever I cried and refused to sleep, they handed me a photo album with all sorts of colorful images. I would stop crying instantly, and they would stay up flipping through the pictures until I fell asleep on my own. I begged my parents to take me to an art class as it was the only class I did not sulk or give up on.

Bố mẹ tôi đi ngủ để tôi ngồi với album một mình, tôi thức coi hình đến khi mệt rồi từ ngủ Tôi năn nỉ để đi học vẽ và lớp vẽ là lớp duy nhất tôi không bỏ và không ngừng cho đến hôm nay!

I have always been inspired, intrigued and fascinated by the works of Monet, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh, by their amazing strokes, contrast and colors. I love to tell a story and describe the journey in my paintings with many bright colors. I use brushes and palette knives to create textures creating unusual surfaces.. My art has shifted from soft and realism to bright and impressionism, which is often described as moving, happy, and thoughtful.
Tôi được truyền cảm hứng bởi những họa sĩ người Pháp và Hà Lan như Monet, Rembrandt, và Van Gogh. Cách mà các họa sĩ này thể hiện qua các nét chuyển động tiêu biểu và đa sắc màu đã khiến tôi thật sự bị lôi cuốn. Tôi vẽ với cọ và dao palette dành cho hội họa để tạo ra những mặt phẳng khác thường. Tôi thích màu sắc và dùng nhiều màu khác nhau để thể hiện tâm trạng/ cảm xúc trong tranh của mình. Góc nhìn hội họa của tôi đã phát triển từ tư tưởng Hiện Thực qua đến tư tưởng Ấn Tượng, và góc nhìn này thường được tả là đầy cảm xúc, vui vẻ, và gợi nhiều suy nghĩ.
What made you decide to this kind of art? I was inspired by many interesting sightseeing’s during my many travels. Painting has been my outlet to share these emotions and stories. I've grown more into Impressionism since I wanted to invite the viewers to be an active part of the journey I painted.
What should readers expect from you in the future? More collections of paintings with bold colors. I’ve always wanted to do a collection of scenes and street vendors in Vietnam; and a collection of travel scenes from my travels, or just simple anything to inspire those around me.

AGENDA The intention of our 2019 Scholarship Recipient Recognition Ceremony is to formally recognize the latest recipients of the Local Community Heroes Scholarship program in which generous sponsors chose to donate to excelling students of their choice. The format in which we want to hold the event is first having the students and sponsors come together as a symbol of their support for their future endeavors. And furthermore, we would like to give a few minutes for students to speak about their ambitions and to thank their donors. We would also like to give the donors an opportunity to speak about and give their best wishes for the students that they have generously donated to. Address the 2019 scholarship recipients, the community at large, and how Local Community Heroes Publication has had a great impact on the community through its Publication. Here at Local Community Heroes, it is our duty to celebrate the accomplishments of students and inspiring teachers in our community. With that said, we will also have our CEO and Chairman Hemant Desai talk about how far the publication has come and his vision for the Scholarship program in the future.
