Jam-packed with over 225 different levels and 5 game types which is more than enough to keep you busy, especially for game-obsessed geeks like myself. Reloaded edition is available for free on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
SMASH HIT “Possibly the coolest app ever” – Brandon Cowan (yes, I did just selfquote myself and I do realise that I am lame). As an app developer, I couldn’t help but notice the brilliance of this app. Neither could Apple when they featured Smash Hit all over the App Store, including on the iTunes homepage. Truly a one-of-a-kind game that takes advantage of incredible 3D physics that pushes the technical limitations of an app to the edge. The graphics, sounds, animations of shattered glass and virtual buildings, 3D balls amongst other aspects are pretty incredible. It is difficult to use words to describe an app of such perfection so I’ll just stop now. Fun fact: Smash Hit and a public transport app called Tripview (if you haven’t heard of it, you could be living under a rock) are both two apps that I wish I created. I guess I’ll have to just settle with the 20+ other apps I’ve made…Available for free on iPhone and Android.

Winter is upon us. It is a time for digging out the accompaniments of the season – hearty meals, warm coats and cold/flu tablets. As winter comes life seems to slow down a little; we are less frenetic, more willing to lay low.
We are confident, but aware that such a miracle as life is not in our power. Our confidence is in the power of another. It is a confidence rightly placed in our God who gives us life, breath and everything else. This winter I invite you to consider the full extent of his power to bring new life; not just to bulbs but to our very bodies. Here is the Christian hope, if winter comes, can spring be far behind? It is as Jesus declares about himself in John’s gospel; "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even if he dies". We can be sure that our God can bring new life, eternal life. This is our hope. Winter is upon us, another season we are blessed with, a season that will come and go. But, a season filled with hope of new life. What better season than this to investigate the claims of Jesus Christ, who offers this confident hope to anyone who would believe?

They were captivated by the bird show, which included iconic Australian birds and mammals such as koalas, echidnas and quokkas, and the show also featured harry the brolga - “he’s the red head,’’ the MC said, drawing a chuckle from William at the expense of his younger brother. When it was time to finally leave, the royal tourists left to a standing ovation from the delighted audience.
When Kate was introduced to Leuca, the koala, she reached out gingerly to stroke the animal’s grey fur.

Another very inspiring ‘Staff Grants’ evening was held at Turramurra Community Bank® Branch on 10 April 2014. This is the fourth time that each of our staff members has nominated a local community group to receive a small grant to be invested in a community project. Since the ‘Staff Grants’ program commenced, our branch staff have assisted more than 20 local community groups in this way. Cheques were presented at the branch to the well deserving recipients. Quentin Romot-Smith, a Year 12 student from Knox College, was selected from over 2,000 students to be a member of the 2014 UN Youth Australia’s Australian Schools delegation at The Hague International Model United Nations.

Michael was the victim of an unprovoked and violent assault in Bondi, in December 2013. Thankfully he was one of the lucky ones and he survived. Insights from Mayor of Ku-ring-gai at Ku-ring-gai Business Forum Dinner Cr Jennifer Anderson, Mayor of Ku-ring-gai, delivered an informative speech that gave an insight into the future directions for Ku-ring-gai to 80 guests at Ku-ring-gai Business Forum dinner held on 30 April at Roseville Golf Club. During her speech, the Mayor spoke of some of the challenges currently facing the Ku-ring-gai area. These include increasing population pressures, a $165 million infrastructure backlog, continuing demand for sporting facilities and the additional needs of an ageing population. She also expanded on the strategies and investments needed to meet these challenges. Knox Grammar Aquatic Centre’s programs are thriving, with more than 2 000 learn to swim swimmers and 400 squad swimmers and many community groups and schools visiting the centre each week. Knox offers a wide range of quality aquatic programs which are open to the public including learn to swim classes for six month old to school-age children. Junior and adult squads and aqua aerobics classes are also held throughout the week, with the pool and gym also open to the public for fitness. Intensive school holiday classes are also available along with one-on-one classes. "Our aquatic centre is worldclass," said Knox Aquatic Centre Manager John Bladon. "It has a heated 50 metre pool and a learn to swim pool." The classes are run by experienced instructors and coaches who provide expert guidance. Justin Dingley completed youth mission work for his voluntary service and travelled to Vietnam for his residential project. Students are required to undertake a shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days and 4 nights for their residential project component of the Award. Katrina Blackett enjoyed her volunteering component, working with the younger Barker students in after school care for 12 months. She also competed at the highest level in athletics and travelled to Lizard Island to complete her residential program.

what patients say about SOMATHERAPY NECK TREATMENT: A few years ago I started to experience severe pain in my shoulder and neck and later on developing terrible migraines. On several occasions I visited my general physician who couldn’t identify the cause of the headaches. I tried everything, from Nurofen Plus to Panadeine Forte and strong narcotic analgesics, however no medication worked. The headaches increased, and my mood swings were heavily affecting my physical and mental discomfort. In the meantime, my left arm and shoulder became restricted in movement as well, making it difficult to put my arm behind my back to do up a zipper or to even raise my arm to brush my hair. After weekly visits over a period of 5 months my neck and arm had completely regained complete movement. The treatment is painless (in fact so relaxing that most times I was able to go to sleep quite easily for the entire treatment session). IS SUGAR REALLY THAT BAD FOR MY TEETH? BY DR LAURENCE MCCARTHY, BMEDSCI, BDENT (HON) I am often asked how important diet is in maintaining a healthy mouth. The answer is that along with oral hygiene, our consumption of sugar is probably the most influential factor contributing to the development of certain dental diseases, such as tooth decay.
Countless studies have proven the link between sugar consumption and tooth decay. The reason is that sugar is used as food by bacteria in the mouth which produces acid. This acid then dissolves the enamel of the tooth, in other words, it decays the tooth. Good oral hygiene will ensure that the number of bacteria sitting on the tooth surface is minimised but there are a couple of other things to keep in mind with relation to sugar. The first thing to be aware of is that the frequency of sugar consumption is just as important as the quantity of sugar. Due to the fact that bacteria are using the sugar to feed, there is more acid being produced when there is a constant supply of sugar in the mouth, for example from regular snacking. So I always recommend having any sugary food in one sitting and then using a sugar free chewing gum to stimulate saliva flow which helps to neutralise acids. Use of a fluoridated toothpaste or mouthrinse can also help by remineralising the tooth surface.

The fructose and sucrose that are found in a lot of soft drinks and juices are readily used by bacteria and therefore potentially harmful for teeth, whereas other sugars such as lactose, which is found in milk, have been found to be less harmful. YOU’VE LOST THAT lovin’ feeling BY TINA VARTIS, FREELANCE WRITER Remember Top Gun? Remember the scene with Maverick and Goose in a bar singing, “You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling?” Yep, that song. That song you are now singing in your head. Have you ever felt that way and wanted to ‘bring back that lovin’ feeling'? Then I highly recommend a book written by Gary Chapman, Ph.D entitled The Five Love Languages. In his book, Chapman discusses the importance of learning the primary love language of your spouse in order to more effectively communicate your love to them (love languages which can be applied across all relationships). Dr Chapman suggests that there are five love languages we use in order to communicate love to one another - Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts 58
of Service and Physical Touch. Why is learning a love language important? Well, imagine yourself choosing to live and work in a foreign country where English is not the primary language spoken. If you refuse to learn the language of your new country, you will find yourself disadvantaged. You might make some progress through pointing, drawing pictures, using an interpreter or scrambling for words in a dictionary, but it will not be enough to fully engage with others in a deeply meaningful way. The same goes for love languages. If we want richly, rewarding relationships, then investing in learning the love language of another will go a long way to reaping relational dividends for you both. For instance, my primary love

language is Quality Time, so if I plan an activity with someone I love, I do so with the expectation of experiencing that activity together ie without divided priorities. So if you turn up and spend more time being distracted with your 'smart' phone by sending text messages, reading emails, updating Facebook, playing games or checking sport scores, then, trust me, that is not quality time spent with a loved one. Unless you’re expecting an urgent call from Joe Hockey asking you for urgent advice regarding putting the budget back into surplus, without alienating the electorate, then put the phone away. Being with someone who seems to have their phone surgically attached to them as a form of life support gets to be too much after awhile.
If we want richly, rewarding relationships, then investing in learning the love language of another will go a long way In the next edition of Living Local I will look at each love language in a little more depth. For now, just keep in mind that marriage and relationships are not about you, they are actually about the other person. In 2006 he raised funds for the renovation of Bhairabi School in Northern Nepal when he saw there was a desperate need for basic facilities to provide shelter and education for Nepalese children and he continues to support them, having recently returned while leading others on the 2013 Nepal Charity Trek. Closer to home he continues to assist other local fundraising initiatives where the objective is to improve the quality of the lives of others who are more disadvantaged than ourselves, such as those living with multiple sclerosis (MS). Starting in 2010 when he supplied the Mudgee2Sydney MS Walk with sausages for their BBQ fundraiser, Allan once again teamed up
with the event organiser, Katrina Hemingway, and hosted a BBQ outside his butcher shop to support her next big event. Starting August 30 Wainwright’s Coast2Coast MS Walk , a challenging 303km, 12-day trek for 17 Australians across England. From St Bees on the west coast to Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast the event aims to raise $150,000 for research into a cure for MS. typically diagnosed between 20-40 years. There are currently over 2.5 million people worldwide with MS and 3 out of 4 of those are women. The disease is progressive and there is currently no cure. The sausage sizzle was a resounding success, running out of sausages well before noon. With all sausages and other materials fully donated they were able to raise an impressive $1600, which is a significant contribution to their efforts to escalate research into finding a cure.

BEYONDLocal almost doubled in size. At the beginning of May we started our autumn calving. This is a great time of year as it is always pleasing to see new calves. We have, for the last couple of years, been running some Dorper sheep. We have increased our sheep numbers and have just purchased a mob of really top Dorper ewes. This was from a dispersal of a really well-known Dorper stud. These ewes are top class. We will be lambing in August and have joined some of the ewes to a new Australian White Ram. Like the Dorper they also shed their wool, so no shearing, crutching or fly strike. Total meat breeds.

Beef cheeks, ox tail and lamb shanks just to name a few. The Easter Show was another fantastic time for us, with some great beef. Once again, we supported Abbotsleigh and Knox schools purchasing beef from both. The quality of The Show beef was again, a very high standard. It is always good to be involved in the Easter Show and in serving our customers some fantastic beef. FARM NEWS What a start to 2014, from extreme heat and drought, to very good rain in February what a turn around. The farm now looks fantastic. We took the chance to plant a huge range of pasture to ensure great pasture establishment.
We planted clovers, chickory, plantain, Serrondella, biserrula, Rhodes grass, digit, and oats. This gives us a huge range of forage herbs and pasture for all seasons.
It is always good to be involved in the Easter Show and in serving our customers some fantastic beef To add to the humus and organic matter in the soil, we added five tonnes of organic compost to the hectare, we source this from recycled green waste. The introduction of legumes, like clovers, adds natural nitrogen to the soil-makeup saving on the use of chemical fertilizers. The rain really gave the new pasture a great start, and the thousands of young trees we have planted have

DO A DAY TRIP - Barrenjoey First stop was Scott’s Honda in Artarmon to pick up the new Honda Odyssey for the day. We immediately noticed the space inside the car - you could host a barn dance or move a soccer team with all of the easily adjustable room. Three rows of seats (the front two are heated) still allow space to stretch out in style. The dashboard is modern and the comfortable ride and seating arrangements make it a dream to drive on a long trip (the arm and head rests are very comfy). Heading towards the Northern Beaches our first stop was The Armchair Collective, a charming café, restaurant and homewares store. It was made for mornings: the sun showers in, the colours of the goods and flowers are bright and a painted table is piled high with the day’s papers.
Next stop was to check out Avalon Beach from Surfside Ave before continuing toward some of Sydney’s best views at Palm Beach. The Odyssey’s large windows make it the perfect car to view scenery. The driving position, entirely customisable with the flick of a switch and the blind spot recognition are also a great help in a big car such as this. 64

Barrenjoey Lighthouse, built in 1881 of the attractive Hawkesbury sandstone, marks the northernmost tip of Sydney and allows panoramic vistas across Pittwater and beyond. Two entrances access Barrenjoey Headland. The long, rocky, cracked, often muddy pathway has been upgraded to a beautiful wide track, making facing the steep, one kilometre hill a breeze. Recent bushfires have resulted in particularly panoramic views. The arduous shortcut, Smugglers Track, is currently closed due to repairs. The main lighthouse keeper’s house is open free of charge, whenever lighthouse tours are running. With no electricity or running water, local legend Jervis Sparks lived in one of the cottages from 1968 to 1999, carefully restoring the buildings and surrounding headland.
It was then time to head back. With outstanding fuel economy the Odyssey’s petrol gauge barely moved, despite the car having impressive power. LOCAL PIN BOARD not-for-profit Before we built the maternal waiting home, pregnant women would walk for hours to give birth at a hospital. They faced many dangers and some would not reach their destination, either giving birth on the road or in their homes, without proper medical care. On top of this, HIV infection is a serious problem in Zimbabwe, with around 11% of expecting mothers testing HIV positive during antenatal screening.
SAVING BABIES FROM HIV Babies in a rural village in Zimbabwe are being born healthy and HIV-free, with strong mothers to care for them, thanks to the work of St Leonardsbased charity, AFAP Action on Poverty. Executive Director Christine Murphy was almost moved to tears when she recently visited the maternal waiting home the local charity helped to build. Christine Murphy explains the situation and recounts her recent visit to Zimbabwe.

...the next generation of children will have a chance of a healthy future We have a small window of opportunity where we can stop the transmission of the virus from mother to child â&#x20AC;&#x201C; it is a window of less than 24 hours from birth. When given Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMCT) medication within this timeframe, babies will not become HIV positive and the next generation of children will have a chance of a healthy future. This would be virtually impossible to achieve if mums give birth unassisted at home. When I visited in February, I was so impressed by the success of the birth home. Of the 84 births that had occurred at the home since it was built in November 2012, all the mums and babies survived and every child was born HIV-free. The mums were given a place to rest before they gave birth, and also education in breastfeeding and other related health issues that will help them keep themselves and their babies healthy. I could also see that the community felt a real ownership over the birth home, as they provided the labour and made the bricks to build it â&#x20AC;&#x201C; with the hospital providing medical staff. This sense of ownership will ensure the sustainability of the birth home for years to com. AFAP Action on Poverty is a small St Leonards-based charity that has been operating since 1968. They work to alleviate poverty in 19 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Their approach is to work in partnership with local communities and other incountry organisations to ensure their projects are sustainable and address the needs of the people. A Ride on the Low-Interest Train

Principal reductions off your mortgage: A period of low interest rates is a good time to reduce your mortgage because small amounts of cash go a long way. If you had a $300,000 variable rate loan at 5.2%, over 30 years, you would pay $1648 a month. If you added $25 a week to the repayment, you'd save more than $45,000, and you'd pay back the loan four years faster. A loan on the same terms for 4.7% instead of 5.7%, you'll pay $186 less a month.
The Reserve Bank forecasts that interest rates will be very low for some time. It's a good idea to take advantage of this environment while it lasts, so here are my top tips to make the most of it.
1
Reduce non-mortgage debt: Before taking on any more loans, pay down your most expensive debt, which will probably be credit card, store finance or a personal loan. In a very low interest rate environment, don't be caught paying 15 to 20%.

Buy a house: If you can get a mortgage at 5%, you should think very seriously about getting a home loan and using the low-cost debt to own an appreciating asset and replace your rent. Property is a long-term investment and rates will go up, so make sure you are prepared.

Use your mortgage to reduce expensive debt: As you build equity in your property (the difference between the property's value and what you owe) consider refinancing the mortgage and consolidating high-interest debt into your low-interest mortgage. However, while consolidation can provide

cashflow relief, always try to keep repayments at the same level so you're not extending your debt.

Investing: With low interest rates on mortgages, think about using your home loan to build wealth by leveraging investments. You could buy an investment property or use the equity in your main property to borrow, to fund a share portfolio. Whatever you choose, get advice from people who don't profit from your investment. Even when interest rates are low, you still have to focus on good information and decisions. Most importantly, take advantage of the opportunity. It won't last forever. Small frequent Age: Old Age is a factor but sadly there are lots of pets with arthritis from quite a young age. Breed and Genetics: Joint dysplasia is commonly seen in some breeds. Arthritis occurs much more quickly in such joints.
A recent study showed that one in five adult dogs are affected by arthritis irrespective of age. Cats also suffer from arthritis which often goes unnoticed. Osteoarthritis (OA), often simply called arthritis, is a degenerative joint disease that results in poor cushioning and lubrication of the joint during movement. As arthritis progresses the cartilage becomes brittle and can even chip off. These cartilage fragments can result in further inflammation and pain. OA develops slowly and it is often not until it is well progressed that people notice changes in their pets behaviour or ability to move.
Size: Large breed dogs are more susceptible to OA due to the higher body weight however OA is still common in small and medium breeds as well as cats! Excess weight: No matter what breed, overfeeding is a big factor in the development of OA. Previous joint trauma: Joint trauma or joint surgery are predisposing risk factors.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP OUR PETS? Weight reduction: ask your vet to check your pet's body condition score. Controlled exercise: low impact exercise is best. You should not force your pet to exercise

YOURHome Daphnes are a firm favourite because of their sweet smelling flowers which form in clusters. They like to be in morning sun or dappled shade, with good drainage but they do not like being overwatered. The most common variety is Daphne odora with its pale pink flowers – pick some and place in a vase inside and enjoy the perfume that will waft through your house for weeks.
A Colourful Winter BY SUSAN POTTHURST, ELEGANT OUTDOORS, TURRAMURRA GARDEN CENTRE Whilst the temperatures can be a little on the chilly side, there are plenty of plants that flower throughout winter to warm your heart - here are just a handful of my favourites. Primulas absolutely scream winter. They flower profusely, come in a multitude of colours and make perfect potted plants. The Primula family is large and diverse but the most commonly planted varieties are malacoides which have bunches of small blooms on delicate stems and obconica, with their larger leaves and flowers. A close relative is the Polyanthus. Pinching off dead flowers and feeding regularly with Yates Thrive Flower & Fruit™ soluble plant- food will encourage repeat blooming. Put some at your front door – the cheerful colours will make you forget it’s winter time. There are many varieties of Pieris japonica, growing anything between 1 and 3 metres. From late winter into spring, they bear beautiful sprays of pendulous flowers which vary in colour from white to shades of pinky-red. The new foliage is commonly a reddishcopper colour, which in most varieties turns to pale pink, cream and finally green. Never let your orchid wollow in water as it may cause root or fungal problems. As you run out of the house to get your kids to school on time, you notice the neglected garden. “It’s ok” you think “I’ll tend to the roses after work”. It’s now 5pm, you arrive home after a busy day. The sun is setting and the roses aren’t that important any more. When designing a new garden it is important to consider how it will be maintained. How much time would you like to spend in the garden? Will you pay someone to do it for you and if so, the cost? Planning early helps achieve the desired result.

The humble Camellia is an investment in time for large blocks and while turf demands a spot in the garden don’t overdo it, keep your lawn area to a manageable size. Consider how you will navigate the lawn mower on different levels with retaining walls. Simple brick garden edges will save time and effort keeping your turf from creeping into the gardens and hard surfaces such as sandstone flagging or brick paving is a great, low maintenance alternative to the usual Sir Walter Buffalo in a high traffic area. To hedge or not to hedge The Buxus (or Box Hedge) is a great hedging plant. It thrives in the Sydney climate but

Deciduous trees such as the Japanese maple, London plane tree and the Liquidambar are incredible to look at but picking up the thousands of leaves they drop every year is not so enjoyable. If you want an area shaded in the summer but sunny in the winter, a deciduous tree is a great solution. However, if appropriate, consider an evergreen tree such as a Magnolia, Tuckeroo or Waterhousea. As a feature tree they are bold and really stand out in the garden but best of all, you wont find yourself filling a green bin with any of their leaves come autumn and winter!
