Academic Progress & Success
Students will cultivate skills such as time management, study habits, and self-care that promote academic success through multifaceted curricular and co-curricular programs. Students will build a knowledge base to self-register each semester based on advising guidance from Success Coaches. Students will know and understand how to access all resources available to them on campus for Academic and personal support.

Through consultation with their Success Coach, students will be able to decipher their personal interests, strengths, values, and skills to inform their academic and career paths. • Moved campus traditions, including holiday lighting ceremonies and student leadership awards reception to a virtual setting
• Established Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and Theta Chi Fraternity at the Brooklyn Campus and Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at the Post Campus

• Added 27 new student organizations across campuses, including 10 College of Veterinary Medicine
RESIDENCE LIFE
Residence halls re-opened in September 2021 following COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. While several precautionary measures remained in place, LIU Promise and Student Affairs maintained their commitment to creating a vibrant and welcoming residential community.

Highlights








• 24% of new first-year students reside on-campus at the Brooklyn Campus; 49% at the Post Campus
• A new move-in experience was designed for students to allow for a safe check-in process
• Central air conditioning was installed in Riggs Hall to increase the number of temperature-controlled spaces at the Post Campus
• New furniture was placed in all residence hall lounges, including activity tables for ping pong, air hockey, and foosball
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
The national conversation surrounding the tragic death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and others sparked an increased interest in dialogues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through its annual assessment, the Division of Student Affairs identified various needs to enhance conversations surrounding multiple identities and their social issues.

• Held multiple open forums for students to engage with University staff and professionals on topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Implemented a student programming calendar that highlighted diversity-themed months, holidays, and other cultural and religious celebrations

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
New Student Orientation marked the official return of students to campus since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The onboarding experience was held virtually, and as a result, the Division of Student Affairs reported fewer new first-year students attending New Student Orientation compared to previous years.

CAREER SUCCESS
The COVID-19 pandemic created significant obstacles for job seekers, especially in the first half of the year. LIU Promise in collaboration with the Office of Alumni & Employer Engagement created new initiatives to support students and increase employment outcomes.

Highlights
• Created “Hot Jobs” campaign via email and social media to connect students with internships and jobs within their related programs of study
• Established the Career Success Committee, a collaborative initiative between LIU Promise and Alumni & Employer Engagement
• LIU Promise developed new internships and job search resources and a new guide for virtual interview skills to assist with pandemic-era career placement
• A career fair via video conference for the College of Management was held and hosted the largest accounting firms in the United States
COMMENCEMENT
Long Island University hosted Commencement in person for the Class of 2021. The University celebrated graduates from the Post, Brentwood, and Riverhead campuses on May 13, 2021, at the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. The graduates from the Brooklyn, Global, Hudson, and Pharmacy campuses were celebrated on May 20, 2021. Each graduate was asked to RSVP to the ceremony and was permitted to have two guests. All other guests and graduates not in attendance were able to watch a live stream.

• Long Island University was the first higher education institution in the region to host in-person Commencement Ceremonies
• Graduates had the option to participate virtually or in-person, and family members were able to participate in the celebrations

The Division of Student Affairs Assessment Steering Committee conducted several assessments during the 2020–2021 academic year regarding the overall student experience, satisfaction with Enrollment services and LIU Promise customer service, and experiential surveys for fraternity and sorority life and remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Highlights
• The confidence in the advice provided by success coaches bolstered since 2019–2020 results from 70% of respondents selecting “completely” or “considerably” trusting advice to 89% in 2020–2021
• Both quantitatively and qualitatively, respondents overwhelmingly demonstrated that their involvement in fraternities/sororities helped develop meaningful relationships with members of the LIU community
• 88% of students were satisfied with their class schedule; 89% of students felt prepared academically for the remainder of the fall semester
