1.CAFE LIBRARY

Year : 2018

The purpose of the project is to analyze the urban setting and propose a required design solution within the given area. The site location also has to be selected for the intended project.

The designated site is an area where a mix of British colonial architecture, modern high-rises, religious buildings, businesses, shopping centers, and many hotels are centered.

The proposed space aims to serve as a healing sanctuary for visitors away from the bustling pace of city life.

The given area is a very high-density downtown area, always crowded with people bustling. The proposed development seeks to be an oasis, offering individuals a peaceful space where they can take a break amidst their ongoing lives.

The proposed site is situated within a quiet neighborhood on vacant land of approximately 8742 sq.m ( 94098.65 sq.ft ).

Concept

The overall idea is to present a little forest to the community, which currently lacks green spaces. Preserving the existing trees is prioritized, while the building itself is envisioned as a cabin in the wood. The visitors will have to walk towards the building, encouraging them to immerse in the natural surroundings.

Organic wood chips are used in the driveway and walkway to allow water infiltration into the ground. New chips added periodically for biodegraded surface over time provides different visual experience at different intervals. Materials

Teak wood is utilized as the primary material for its durability, strength, stability, weather resistance, and low maintenance requirement. Its appeal is also accentuated by its rich grain and unique color, contributing to an overall aesthetic charm.

The glass reflects its surroundings on the outside, and the reflected green image is blended with nature. It remains transparent inside, and a thin metallic coating minimizes excessive light penetrating and glaring.

2. ART & CRAFT MUSEUM

Museums play a significant role in preserving the history and culture of our society. They are critical in maintaining local culture and heritage while connecting people of different backgrounds.

Through their exhibits, museums tell the whole story of evolution and overcoming, extending beyond the time and category.

As more museums are required in Myanmar, a nation rich in traditional arts and crafts, this project is expected to become a source of inspiration, engaging and educating the community.

The given site is located at the corner of two main roads with a total area of about 11148.4 sq.m ( 120 000 sq.ft ). Regulation - BCR-0.8, FAR-8. The building is approached from the one-way route, serving as the entrance, to reduce traffic congestion at the intersection and mitigate potential noise pollution.

The building consists of two main sectors, public and private zones. The public zone is designed for visitors to immerse themselves in the art experience, and the private zone is reserved only for staff. The inner courtyard between the two zones, separated by corridors, promotes natural lighting and cross ventilation throughout the building.

The building's overall form, inspired by the wings to express embracing, is characterized by the sloping roofs connecting and overlapping each other. The exterior walls feature vertical louvers, allowing light and air to pass through. As time changes, the interplay of light and shade can also be sensed from the shifting hues of louvers, connecting internal space with nature.

Upon entering the museum, the main lobby greets the visitors with temporary and permanent exhibitions showcasing natural and cultural artifacts. In addition to exhibition spaces, the museum encompasses a gallery, library, cafeteria, workshops, and conferences, all accessible to the public. The museum is expected to become a social hub for the community, bringing artists and the public together.

The museum's ambiance is curated with dark theme materials to emphasize the quiet and calm atmosphere. The incorporation of raw exposed brickwork adds a rustic touch, accentuating the space with

warmth and connection to the earth.

3. SINGLE FAMILY HOUSE

Year : 2019

Residential architecture undoubtedly has a direct impact on improving quality of life since the built environment reflects our daily lives.

Given that one of the principal roles of an architect is to enhance the life of the occupants, the designed spaces have to cater to the specific needs and demands of the occupants.

The following project aims to design a house, the most fundamental essence in residential architecture, for an imaginary family, including essential requirements.

Exisiting Conditions

The provided site is located within a residential and mixed-uses zone in the southern part of Insein Township, where the Yangon River flows along the site.

The total area is about 47.6 acres, with the proposed site for the project limited to a maximum of 2 acres.

Yangon River ( Hlaing River )

The proposed site has approximately 1.5 acres ( 6241.6 sq.m ). It is chosen at a considerable distance from the industrial zone as the priority and adjacent to the river to ensure a serene environment and picturesque view.

A single family house catering to the needs of four family members: father, mother, son, and daughter. In addition to primary living spaces, the house includes various relaxation areas such as a swimming pool, a mini theatre, a library, a home gym for the son, who likes to work out, and a working studio for the daughter, who is a designer.

TWO MAIN ZONES

units to create more privacy and high level of concentration

The house with an inner courtyard is oriented from southeast to northwest to optimize natural sunlight and ample ventilation from the nearby river. The bushes are planted around the property to reduce erosion and ensure privacy from the river. In the backyard, there is a garden where you can grow fresh vegetables and take a relaxing walk.

Summer, Monsoon Wind

The house can be seen as separate structures instead of one oversized house to maximize the views and capture the natural sunlight and refreshing breeze from the river. The active areas, such as the living and dining room, kitchen, decking, and family room, are located on the ground floor entering the house. Additionally, the gym and facilities are also on the ground floor. Private relaxation areas, such as the bedrooms and mini theatre, are on the first floor. The working studio and library are isolated from the social areas to avoid noise and improve concentration.

The openings include three-layered sliding doors that offer flexibility when fully opened, connecting the interior and exterior. Glass openings provide the required amount of natural light to brighten the space, and louvered openings allow proper airflow for better ventilation. Their positions can be adjusted to acquire the necessary level of lighting and ventilation for a comfortable environment.

NON-ACADEMIC

Non-academic pursuits encompass a range of projects, including the ones from my employment, some freelance projects, and my personal work of interest.

The projects from the architectural firm are those that I worked on individually or cooperating with my colleagues under the guidance of principal architects.

I could broaden my architectural expertise, particularly in integrating a realistic approach to design and producing construction drawings. I also enhanced my presentation skills to explain design ideas to clients and find solutions for their needs. A

1.SAKAI RESIDENCE

This ongoing project is a luxury residence situated in Tokyo. The overall design concept is a fusion of contemporary and traditional Japanese architectural styles, reflecting the client’s requirements and preferences.

The residence comprises one basement and four upper floors to accommodate various functional spaces tailored to the client’s distinctive lifestyle. The design phase extended beyond initial expectations prompted by the necessary revision during the process according to budget reduction.

I had the opportunity to participate in designing both exterior and interior spaces as well as preparing working drawings. This experience brought me invaluable insights into the practical design process, developing a conceptual outline, utilization of lighting, and how to choose appropriate materials.

2.EYELASH SALON

This project is the proposed design for the renovation of a 50 sq.m Japanese apartment into an eyelash salon. The design concept focuses on creating a soft and calm atmosphere, prioritizing the customers to be relaxed and comfortable. The harmonious combination of white and wood is complemented with matcha green, providing a familiar yet intriguing environment.

Privacy is ensured by the installation of partitions beyond eye level. Despite the client’s tight budget, it was designed to offer feelings of effortlessness and luxury with a hint of marble knobs as an accent.

PHYSICAL MODELLING

Model making is one of the most fundamental skills in becoming an architect. Architectural models offer three-dimensional representations to get a physical feel of scale and proportion. It is also a sub-process to inform architects how to proceed with the design. The following images include the conceptual and working design models from my academic years and professional work.

SKETCHING & DRAWING

One of the main reasons why I chose to study architecture is because I am fond of drawing. Hand sketches are perfect mediums to convey ideas and communicate with others quickly. As I continue to practice, I develop an affinity for landscape and urban sketching. This engagement enhanced my appreciation of nature and the thoughtful work architects undertake in designing our environments.
