WELCOME F A N S Dear Fans:

Dear K-LOVE Fans:

Together with our friends at Pepsi, we hope that you’ll be inspired and encouraged. Enjoy tonight’s celebration.

It is great to be in an industry that creates and crafts new songs that are centered around Christ. Tonight, you will experience the best of the best in Christian music. You will also hear from athletes, authors and actors who are using their platform to advance the gospel. For that, I applaud them. Tonight is a celebration, a culmination of many types of entertainment recognized by you, the fans. It is my privilege to produce a one-of-a-kind event for you and build an experience that will draw you closer to the most creative artist of all, the Lord Jesus Christ. In addition, I especially wish to thank K-LOVE, Pepsi, World Hope and my wonderful team at John Sanders, LLC. Your friendship, vision and partnership is truly amazing. I hope you have a great evening and enjoy Christian music’s biggest night.

Regards,

Let’s do it again next year!

Mike Novak CEO/President, K-LOVE Radio

John Sanders John Sanders LLC, Executive Producer

God is so good. I am amazed and humbled at how God is using K-LOVE to minister to people all around the world. Tonight we recognize those who touch the world for Christ. It is our privilege at K-LOVE to link the Christian community to you, our listeners. We have the best listeners who give of their time, resources and prayers to help us continue our calling at K-LOVE. This evening we find out who you, the fans, chose to honor. You nominated and you voted in huge numbers. WOW! Your votes help build homes for orphaned and abandoned children through the Hands & Feet Project, and I couldn’t be more grateful for what God is doing in and through the K-LOVE listener family. Mark 12 says, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Tonight, inside the historic Grand Ole Opry House, we celebrate the ministry and the message of love.

K-LOVE Fan Awards Artists and Attendees: Dear FRIENDS: God is so good to us, and I’m so thankful for His grace every day! Reflecting on this journey of the past few years, it’s hard to believe we are already celebrating our third annual K-LOVE Fan Awards weekend. Our purpose tonight is to recognize and thank those who with excellence have impacted our culture for Christ. Hopefully, in some small way, this weekend will inspire future work that will share the love and hope of Jesus to a hurting world. To all of our nominees who have inspired us this year — thank you! To my friends at Pepsi, John Sanders, LLC, and K-LOVE who always go above and beyond to make this weekend an amazing event for all of us — thank you. I am honored to partner with each and every one of you as we set out to impact this world for Jesus Christ.

Have a great evening!

David Pierce Chief Creative Officer, K-LOVE Radio

It is an honor and a joy to share in this great event with you. Like you, I am a fan of all the incredible artists gathered here this weekend. I am encouraged by the powerful messages of the songs, the determination of the artists who travel around the globe to share the gospel, and the families of the talented musicians who offer support on the road or from home. The calling to sing and spread God’s message is not easy. It requires sacrifice to follow and trust in the Lord’s plan. I’m sure we’ve all felt this in small and large ways as we journey away from friends and family to pursue new opportunities. I felt this sacrifice as a marine and now as a husband and father. When traveling for business, I miss seeing my children — Hallie (11), Harry (10) and Isaiah (1) — dance and sing along to the positive, uplifting music of their favorite musicians on K-LOVE. Because of this, I am honored to support the ministry of K-LOVE and the positive songs and stories they share with our loved ones, no matter where we may be. I am also thankful for the work Pepsi MidAmerica has been able to accomplish by spotlighting artists like Switchfoot, Natalie Grant, Crowder and Tenth Avenue North on Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper cans throughout our territory! Thank you fans, artists and families for sharing this great adventure with us. The Crisp Family Lee, Stacie, Hallie, Harry & Isaiah

F4N AWARDS 2014 SHOW REWIND

16

K LOV E FA N A WA R D S . CO M

After an unprecedented first year in 2013, the 2014 K-LOVE Fan Awards became a highlyanticipated event for Christian music and entertainment fans. The Ultimate Fan Experience weekend introduced the K-LOVE Fan Zone, which featured an entire exhibit floor full of live concerts, meet and greets, celebrity basketball games, Christian music memorabilia and even a look inside Jeremy Camp’s tour bus. The weekend was capped off by the second annual Fan Awards that moved from the historic Ryman Auditorium to Nashville’s legendary Grand Ole Opry House, nearly doubling the size of the venue. Hosted by Candace Cameron Bure and Matthew West, last year’s show boasted 23 epic performances — from MercyMe’s opening rendition of “Shake” (complete with dancers and confetti) to Hillsong UNITED’s stunning closing performance of “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail).” In addition, awards were given out in 11 categories, including the newly minted categories of “Worship Song of the Year” and “Best Live Show.” Plus, for the first time ever, fans chose the artist who would appear on a 7UP can. Moreover, for every half million votes cast, K-LOVE and World Hope partnered to provide a home for a family in Detroit. More than 2 million fans voted, and four homes were built for those in need.

BOOK

I M P A C T The Best Yes By Lysa TerKeurst — @lysaterkeurst New York Times bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst helps women discover their “best yes” in her latest book. As a wife, mother to five, author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries, TerKeurst claims she’s a chronic peoplepleaser. Like every busy mom, she knows a thing or two about feeling overwhelmed. In The Best Yes, TerKeurst reveals the secrets she’s learned to saying “no” and reserving her “yes” for the things that add purpose, meaning and beauty to her life, while looking to Christ for discernment. In addition, all of the proceeds from The Best Yes go toward select Christian ministries around the world. Photo by: Mike Healy

Life After The Storm By Jan Harrison — @janmharrison77 Author, speaker and Bible teacher Jan Harrison shares her personal story of tragedy in Life After The Storm, following the unexpected death of her son, James. Although Harrison’s experience is one of loss and grief, her pain became the catalyst for transformation. Through her book, she promises others that God can use their pain for purpose, too. She encourages readers to stop living in the fear of “what if” and be equipped for life “even if.” Harrison points to Scripture and personal experience to help others battle change, doubt and uncertainty in the midst of life’s hardest storms.

Raising Boys The Zeller Way By Steve and Lori Zeller — @zellerbook Parents Steve and Lori Zeller have three boys — Luke, Tyler and Cody — all of whom finished at the top of their high school class, played NCAA Division I basketball and earned NBA contracts. Raising Boys The Zeller Way gives readers a glimpse into the Zeller home. Alternating between Steve’s voice and Lori’s voice and interspersed with comments from all three kids, the book is filled with honest and entertaining real-life anecdotes from the Zellers’ parenting journey, the lessons they learned along the way and the advice they’ve come to glean through years of raising three intelligent, athletic, talented, godly young men.

Whatever The Cost By David and Jason Benham — @benhambrothers Twin brothers David and Jason Benham gave up one dream for another. As former professional baseball players, they traded in their gloves for a corner office as real estate entrepreneurs, building a multi-million dollar business that earned them an HGTV reality series. Whatever The Cost details their early life and the experience that gave them national media exposure after HGTV pulled the plug on their show before the first episode aired because the brothers chose to adhere to their Christian beliefs. The book also expands on the principles they’ve learned as Christians, husbands, fathers, athletes and successful businessmen.

FILM&TV I M P A C T A.D. The Bible Continues @bibleseries “A.D. The Bible Continues” picks up right where the critically-acclaimed mini-series “The Bible” left off, beginning with the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. The 12-week mini-series, which began appropriately on Easter Sunday, finds executive producers Roma Downey (“The Bible”) and Mark Burnett (“The Bible,” “The Voice”) taking viewers on a journey through the later chapters of biblical history as the Christian faith began to multiply, thanks to bold Christ followers like Paul, Peter and John. The spotlight lands on the disciples and their ministry work as they begin to introduce the gospel message to people hungry for hope. “A.D. The Bible Continues” airs Sunday nights on NBC.

Do You Believe? @dybmovie

From the creators of last year’s K-LOVE Film & TV Impact award-winning movie God’s Not Dead, comes Do You Believe? With an all-star cast that includes Mira Sorvino, Sean Astin, Cybill Shepherd and Lee Majors, the film follows a dozen different people whose lives intersect as they search for significance and meaning. One of these individuals, a local pastor, is shaken to his core after an encounter with a street-corner preacher, reminding him that actions speak louder than words. The incident becomes a catalyst that impacts everyone he touches in divine ways that can only be orchestrated by God. Moreover, the Newsboys also provide the theme song for the movie with their hit, “We Believe.”

Mom’s Night Out

@mnomovie

Starring Sarah Drew, Sean Astin, Patricia Heaton and Trace Atkins, Mom’s Night Out is a real-life depiction of what every frazzled mom dreams of — a peaceful, carefree night out with girlfriends. The film follows Allyson (Sarah Drew) and her fellow mommy friends as they attempt to have a quiet, child-free evening full of adult conversion while their husbands watch the kids. This family comedy offers authentic characters and a true-to-life story that moms and dads of all ages will instantly identify with as they laugh and cry right along with the cast. With a large dose of hilarity, Mom’s Night Out celebrates the beautiful, crazy mess that we call parenthood.

Saving Christmas @kirkcameron This past holiday season, Kirk Cameron encouraged people to keep the “Christ” in Christmas with his new film, Saving Christmas. The movie follows Kirk’s on-screen fictional family. When his sister’s annual holiday party faces ruin thanks to his brother-in-law Christian’s “Bah Humbug” attitude, Cameron embarks on an all-out mission to help Christian discover the true meaning of the season. Saving Christmas offers a strong biblical basis for the holiday’s time-honored traditions and provides a simultaneously hilarious and endearing take on December 25. Filled with dancing, feasting, family and all the things that make Christmas meaningful, the film gives viewers plenty of reasons to celebrate.

In partnership with Focus on the Family and Kindred Image, The Drop Box tells the story of South Korean pastor Lee Jong-rak and his heroic efforts to care for the least of these. When an abandoned baby was left on his church’s doorstep, Jong-rak decided to provide a “baby box” for the hundreds of children abandoned in his country. The documentary is a heart-wrenching narrative exploring the physical, emotional and financial toll associated with providing refuge to orphans who would otherwise be abandoned on the streets. The film’s also become a tool to teach people about the great need of the more than 150 million orphans around the world waiting for forever families.

”Overwhelmed”

Big Daddy weave @bdwmusic Big Daddy Weave’s lead singer Mike Weaver came up with the bridge and chorus to “Overwhelmed” one day in his garage — his self-dubbed “man cave.” He sent his ideas to Phil Wickham who then added the verses during a co-writing session via Skype. The choir heard at the end features a group of kids from Tanzania, which Big Daddy Weave recorded during a trip with World Vision to meet their sponsored children. The band’s trip is vividly chronicled in the music video for the song, the group’s fourth consecutive No. 1 single. Weaver says the addition of the children’s choir was his “favorite way to end a recording yet.”

”jesus loves me” CHRIS TOMLIN @christomlin

Chris Tomlin’s new adaptation of “Jesus Loves Me” came at the eleventh hour as he was finalizing his latest studio album, Love Ran Red. The song he first learned as a child began to take on a whole new meaning as Tomlin sang the song over his daughters at nighttime. “I find that it’s easier to sing as a kid,” the worship leader contends. “The older you get, the more unbelievable that really is… I don’t think anybody realizes how powerful those words are — how huge they are and how life-changing — and I think we need to be reminded of that. This song is a reminder of that simple truth.”

”COME AS YOU ARE” CROWDER @crowdermusic

David Crowder says he believes “Come As You Are” is the anchor and hinge for his entire solo project, Neon Steeple. “What I love about that song is that it makes room for all of us,” Crowder comments. “What if, no matter what in the world you’ve done — think of the worst thing you’ve never told another person — what if that’s OK, and there’s something that can cover that and exceed that depravity? When you talk about invitations — an invitation into something bigger and grander than what you know and experience — [this song] feels like it throws the doors open wide.” The single has indeed become an invitation to millions worldwide and recently became Crowder’s first career No. 1 at radio.

”no

other name”

Hillsong worship @hillsongworship The title track from Hillsong Worship’s newest effort, No Other Name, exalts the name above every name — Jesus, and the album’s cover art creatively tells the story behind the song. The artwork is not an illusion of Photoshop. It’s a real image taken in Times Square when Hillsong rented out 21 neon billboards to display the greatest declaration of hope. “Times Square — one of the most iconic locations on earth — is a place where so many names scream for fame,” Hillsong Church Communications Director Jay Argaet offers. “The most powerful brands, the biggest shows and the most famous celebrities — every name wants to be the greatest! [We thought] perhaps this would be the most powerful way to remind the world His name trumps them all.”

”how

can it be”

Lauren Daigle @lauren_daigle When new Centricity Music artist Lauren Daigle was working on her debut, her producer, Paul Mabury, brought her a song that he had written with Jason Ingram and Jeff Johnson. Based on the account in John 7, where Jesus is writing in the sand and extends grace to an adulterous woman instead of stoning her as the law decreed, “How Can It Be” displays the reality of redemption. “As the song played, tears started coming down my face and I was amazed by it,” Daigle shares. “I just recognized a place when I deserved the worst, and God completely ransomed me… In my sin and in my shame, He fought for me.”

”because

he lives,(amen)”

Matt Maher @mattmahermusic

Singer/songwriter Matt Maher originally began the chorus to “Because He Lives (Amen)” with fellow songwriters Ed Cash and Jason Ingram. He finished the song with worship leader Chris Tomlin and then decided he had to include the lyrics to the old hymn in the bridge. With Bill Gaither’s blessing Maher’s brand-new single was born, and the song became the first cut he wrote and recorded for his latest album, Saints & Sinners. Maher believes the message of the song celebrates the ultimate pinnacle of the Christian faith. “Everything we do as Christians comes after the fact of the resurrection,” he says. “Sometimes things have to die in order for them to come to life.” #klo vefanaward s 69 # K LOV E FA N A WA R D S

SONG OF THE YEAR

NOMINEES

”hope

in front of me”

Danny Gokey @dannygokey

It was Danny Gokey’s first wife, Sophia, who initially encouraged him to try out for “American Idol.” One month before auditions, Sophia passed away, leaving Danny with a broken heart and a new story of God’s faithfulness to share from the “Idol” stage. Now, years later, Gokey is remarried and has two children. “Hope In Front of Me” simply looks back on the unexpected path he’s walked. “When we went to write this song, we wanted a song that reflected that journey I’d walked through,” Gokey explains. “This song is not only my journey, but a reflection of so many people’s journeys.” The song was written by Gokey, Bernie Herms and Brett James and stayed at the top of the Christian radio charts for four weeks.

”fix my eyes”

for KING & COUNTRY @4kingandcountry “Fix My Eyes” was actually written a year-and-a-half before brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone officially recorded it for their sophomore album, Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong. Meanwhile, the duo was testing the song live for audiences on their first headlining tour. As they traveled across the country in a 15-passenger van and dealt with Luke’s diagnosis of a digestive disorder in October 2012, the band penned the words to the song, which they recently performed on “Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda.” “We just asked ourselves, ‘After all these discoveries, who are we as a band, what do we want to say, what do we stand for?’ And we came up with a list of sorts,” Joel explains. “‘Fix My Eyes’ is now an anchor for us as a band.”

”he knows my name” Francesca Battistelli @francescamusic

Francesca Battistelli’s song “He Knows My Name” resonates with self-awareness of social pressures and the immense need to remind listeners that their identity is found solely in Christ. “I really hope this song can become an anthem for people,” Battistelli says, “because for me, I know my whole life I’ve struggled with believing what other people say about me — whether it’s good or bad, putting too much stock in what other people think; but this is a song that celebrates what God calls us.” Fans will quickly identify with the real-life stories of four Mercy Ministries graduates featured in the 12-minute long form music video for the single.

”do

something”

Matthew west @matthew_west Matthew West’s “Do Something” is based on the story of Andrea, a young woman from Colorado who traveled to Uganda originally for class credit. When she arrived, she discovered an orphanage where children were abused and neglected. She called her father and told him she wasn’t coming home. Andrea relentlessly pestered the Ugandan government until they eventually shut the facility down and entrusted 40 children to her care, none of whom had ever slept in a bed. Today, Andrea runs an orphanage that houses more than 120 children. “Andrea’s story floored me,” says West. “Today, so many of us talk so much about being the hands and feet of Christ but never really display what that looks like. Andrea has gone to the extremes to show us all what wild abandon to the cause of Christ looks like. It’s not about talking; it’s about doing.”

”greater”

MERCYME @mercyme “Greater” brings the message of grace and the band’s influences of Americana-flavored groups like Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers to the forefront. Front man Bart Millard hopes listeners can believe the promise that “You are holy, righteous and redeemed.” The singer has already seen the lasting effects of the song through the eyes of his middle son, Charlie. “One day I was trying to tell my son, because he has a stuttering problem, ‘Buddy, people may make fun of you, but you have something inside of you that is telling you you’re something different, that you’re stronger than that and that you’re beautiful,’” Millard shares. “From time to time, I can hear him singing this song in the house, and I’ve thought, That’s the reason to make a record.”

”we

believe”

NEWSBOYS @newsboys

“If Billy Graham could sing [professionally], I believe he would sing these words,” offers Newsboys lead singer Michael Tait of the band’s anthemic single “We Believe.” With lyrics that reflect the believer’s creed, the song has become one of the biggest hits of the band’s career to date. Ironically, it was the final cut they recorded for the group’s album Restart. “It’s a great statement of our faith,” affirms longtime drummer Duncan Phillips. “A lot of times, I think we have the culture screaming at us [just the] opposite of that… It’s black and white… I think why it resonates with so many people is it’s just something they can get behind.”
