Christmas is just around the corner, and what better way to get into the spirit but to start preparing your home with lots of cozy seasonal décor. I’ve listed my favourite up and coming Christmas styling trends for 2025 and tips on how to style them. Enjoy X

1. E ARTHy, WAR m & “m o CHA m o USSE”I NSPIRED Colo UR PA l ETTES

• Soft browns, rich warm neutrals like mocha, taupe, caramel. tones that feels grounded and comforting. Related to Pantone’s mocha mousse.

• mixed with natural greens (olive, cedar) and accents in muted gold, bronze rather than bright, harsh metallic’s.

2. m oo Dy El EGANCE

• Deep, dramatic tones: burgundy, dark charcoal, forest green, moonlit silvers. Image: highly saturated, darker colour schemes that feel luxurious and a bit dramatic.

• Velvet, rich textures and mixed metallic’s (burnished/aged gold, silver) to add depth.

3. N ATURE, S USTAINAB l E & oRGANIC ACCENTS

• Use of natural materials: wood, pinecones, dried florals, moss, and real evergreen branches.

• Sustainability is important: more people choosing ethically sourced, reused, and recycled décor rather than plastic/glitter where possible.

4. mI x ED mETA ll ICS & So FT S HINE

• Warm metallics (copper, bronze, aged gold) not just as high-gloss, but with texture: brushed, matte, slightly tarnished, or subtle shimmer.

• metallic touches used sparingly to enhance rather than dominate. Lighting etc plays a big role.

5. T E x TURE & lAyERING

• Soft, tactile fabrics: velvet, faux fur, sherpa, heavy knits. these add warmth in colder months.

• Layers in décor: layered rugs, throws, cushions, mixed materials. Also layering in the tree / garlands: combining wood, fabric, metal, light.

6. mINI mA l IS m & Cl EAN S I l H o UETTES,

C URATED look S

• A counterbalance to “more is more”: more people want spaces that feel peaceful,

uncluttered, curated.

• think fewer ornaments but better quality / more meaningful items; natural greenery, simple but elegant; whitespace.

7. El E vATED oUTD oo R / E NTRANCE D ECo R

• Greater emphasis on exterior presentation: premium wreaths, strong lighting, weather-proof ornaments, projecting lights etc.

• the front entry becomes part of the “wow”-moment.

Our Home

Ho W yo U C AN U SE T HESE T RENDS

Start with your base palette (walls, larger furniture, main tree) then add accent colours based on trend.

mix materials/textures: e.g. a velvet cushion + a wooden ornament + metallic candle holder = richness.

Use lighting to enhance mood: soft warm LEDs, fairy lights, candles. In moody palettes, lighting contrast accentuates the drama.

For outdoors / entryways: pick one statement item (wreath, door garland, lighting) rather than trying to “decorate everything.”

Reuse what you have where possible— add touches that fit the season rather than overhaul completely. Vintage pieces + heirlooms are in.

Be intentional rather than “festive clutter.” Sometimes removing rather than adding gives a more chiselled, stylish look.

Local Glazing Experts!

As the foremost domestic glass replacement company in the UK for more than 18 years, Cloudy2Clear Windows are the leading name in the industry. There is now no need for you to risk your windows by using the dreaded double glazing cowboy down the street. You can join over 340,000 happy customers and replace your glass ethically and affordably. If you have a failed glass unit it may not provide you with the protection you need, or be as energy-efficient as it once was. Why not take a minute to check your home to see if any double glazing has failed? Taking action now can prevent future financial problems.

When talking to the Manager of Cloudy2Clear James Stanley it became evident that the value of saving their customers money has been held dear for a number

of years. In addition since starting the business in 2005, Cloudy2Clear have committed to supporting the local community by providing a service that saves the public both time and money.

The Cloudy2Clear service only requires the glass to be replaced and not the whole window once the unit has failed. James commented “By doing this we make the customer considerable savings and there is much less upheaval in the family home. Also, whether communities find themselves in a financial crisis or not, saving money when you don’t need to waste it is always the sensible option, and our service does just that”.

revolutionary spinal programme solves chronic Back and neck pain

A Wombourne-based physiotherapy clinic has reported some remarkable results from patients who have completed its revolutionary Spinal Decompression Programme, with some even cancelling planned operations.

Optispine’s 7-step approach, which combines the latest in technology and therapy, has changed the lives of many of its patients suffering with chronic back and neck pain, helping them to find relief through a long-term solution that really works.

mother-of-one, talash Chopra, had her life turned upside down when she sustained a major disc prolapse. She went from a normal life, working in a school, enjoying family life and exercising in her spare time, to being unable to stand or sit for more than a minute or two. talash could only find relief by lying down and needed to take strong painkillers, which weren’t particularly effective. Eventually, there was only one option open to her; she was recommended to undergo spinal surgery – a step she was reluctant to take.

talash confirmed: “I couldn’t walk or stand up straight and was in constant pain but, after my course of decompression therapy, I am now back at work, able to drive and can continue with day-to-day activities. I’m also off the painkillers and, more importantly, I no longer need an operation.”

Optispine’s specialised programme offers effective non-surgical treatment to patients suffering from a wide range of conditions, including herniated discs, pinched nerves, sciatica, degenerative discs, spinal stenosis and more.

Not just for back pain, the treatment has also helped office worker, Ann Baddams, who for over three years suffered with excruciating

neck pain, leaving her with pins and needles down her left arm and often unable to move her head. Struggling to sleep at night without strong painkillers, Ann began weekly physiotherapy but, due to the severity of her condition, she needed a nerve root block injection, which unfortunately failed, and was subsequently offered surgery.

Spurred on to find a better solution, she decided to try decompression therapy and signed up for six sessions. the programme proved to be a huge success that has enabled her to stop ongoing physiotherapy, saving her hundreds of pounds in treatment costs.

She revealed: “After the first two sessions, I could tell there was a huge improvement. the pins and needles I’d experienced constantly for almost three years reduced dramatically to almost nothing. After completing the course, my condition had improved to the point where I no longer needed regular physiotherapy.”

Optispine’s lead physiotherapist, Davinder Chatha, said: “ the main culprit of back and neck pain is compression of the spine and, until now, this has been near enough impossible to treat.”

“I’m now seeing these patients in my clinic a lot less frequently as they’ve found a solution to their health issues and, best of all, improved their quality of life.”

“After specialising in spinal therapy for over 20 years, this is by far the most effective treatment for a range of painful and debilitating spinal conditions, and it has even exceeded my expectations.”

the sounds oF christmas you shouldn’t miss

Christmas and winter are full of sounds that bring joy – the laughter of family, the sparkle of festive music, and even the simple crunch of snow or frost underfoot. But if you live with hearing loss, some of these moments can feel muted or even missed altogether.

Busy family gatherings often mean background chatter that makes conversation harder to follow. Carol singing, Christmas films, the excited rustle of wrapping paper or the quiet crackle of a fire may not sound as clear as they once did. this can lead to frustration and a sense of being left out of the celebration.

the good news is there are ways to make the season easier to enjoy:

• Check your hearing aids – make sure they’re working properly before the festivities begin. Fresh batteries or a thorough service can make all the difference.

• Use assistive listening devices – t V streamers, remote microphones, or phone apps can help you hear more clearly during noisy events.

• Plan your environment – choose quieter corners or try to sit with your back against a wall for conversations or turn down background music when people are chatting.

• let others know – friends and family can help by speaking clearly, facing you, and reducing interruptions.

By taking a few simple steps, you can reconnect with the sounds that make Christmas so special. Don’t let hearing loss stop you from enjoying every laugh, carol, and festive cheer this winter.

tips to Care for Your Hearing and Hearing Aids this Christmas:

• keep them dry: Be mindful of rain, snow, and steamy kitchens. Store your hearing aids in a dry, safe place overnight.

• Watch the batteries: Carry spare batteries or ensure rechargeable aids are fully charged before events. Remember a 20min charge during the day can give upto an additional 3 hours of use!

• Clean regularly: Christmas cooking and dusty decorations can clog your devices — clean them gently each day. Remember to change the filters regularly

• Travel smart: Pack a hearing aid kit (batteries, cleaning tools, charger) when visiting family or going away.

• Don’t be afraid to ask: If you’re struggling to hear in a noisy room, ask others to speak clearly — people are happy to help!

Book a hearing check with us today and make sure you don’t miss a single sound this festive season. We can have you hearing again within a few days – just in time for Christmas!

Take care of your hearing — it's one of the best gifts you have.

Hi there, my name is Sara McMaster. I would like to introduce you to my Service.

I Offer Poetic Tributes For: Funerals And Special Occasions.

For years now people have approached me and I have authentically offered to do poetry for special occasions. My theory is that poetry has it’s place in all areas of life. I have written poetry for special occasions and memorials, offering words of comfort, celebration, and remembrance. At funerals I have done eulogies for friends and family in poet form. Sometimes poetry can resonate more with people and gives a deep sense of emotion and meaning for anybody that chooses to read it or listen. I have been approached many a time after funerals commending my poems and how I addressed the very core of a person’s personality through the poem. This is the reason I feel compelled to offer this service to a wider circle.

For example, imagine a family member having sadly passed away. There is nobody in the family who has the gift of being able to write a speech or conduct a speech and actually present it in front of a whole audience. There are many factors that contribute to this. The death of a loved one is a very fraught time, especially if it is not expected. A funeral is a deeply emotional time. Some people do not have the capacity to put into words their feelings and never mind stand up in a church and speak the words and yet everybody craves that personal touch at a funeral.

Tel: 07794 302927

This is how I can help you I can offer to:

1. Visit you and your family/friends in person to gain information regarding the person that has passed. I will gain details about the person’s personality, intricate details of special events in their lives, their work history, their achievements, personality, loves, mottos and so on. This will help to create a personal effect and enable me to write a deep and meaningful poetic tribute for your loved one.

2. Public speaking at a funeral is not achievable for everybody. Some people feel fearful of public speaking and have anxieties about messing up or breaking down in front of a congregation at funerals. With this in mind, I offer a service of presenting and reading a poetic tribute created by myself for you. I have great experience with this and can deliver it in an emotional way.

3. As an alternative I can record the poem/tribute for you professionally so that it can be played at the funeral.

4. I can provide leaflets with the poem written out for the congregation to take home.

I can also offer the same for other specials occasions

• Weddings

• Special Birthdays

• Christenings

• Graduations

• Engagements

• Work Related achievements

• Anniversaries

• Renewing of vows

With all of the above, I will offer to meet with you personally, or connect via zoom/ email/telephone conversation to enable me to gain pointers of the material you would like me to incorporate in the poem.

If you search the internet, you will find that there are not many people that offer this bespoke service, but it will add such a personal touch to any occasion. Please feel free to visit my Facebook/Instagram and Tiktok page to see poems that I have produced. You can view videos also of me presenting poems. If this is something you feel you would like to pursue then please do not hesitate to contact me.

WICKED: FOR GOOD

DIRECTOR: JON M. CHU

Starring: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande

The land of Oz is about to change forever in Wicked: For Good, the breathtaking finale to one of the most beloved musicals of our time. Cynthia Erivo soars as Elphaba, the misunderstood witch whose journey from outcast to legend still grips the heart, while Ariana Grande shines as Glinda, balancing charm with newfound depth as the ties of friendship are tested. Expect goosebumps, tears, and the kind of show-stopping numbers that will linger long after the credits roll. This isn’t just Oz, it’s an event you’ll never forget.

FIRE & ASH

DIRECTOR: JAMES CAMERON

Starring: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña

James Cameron once again expands the frontier of cinematic imagination in Avatar: Fire & Ash, the next epic chapter in Pandora’s saga. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña return as Jake Sully and Neytiri, whose family faces its most devastating trial yet. As fiery conflict erupts and an enemy forged in loss rises from the shadows, the battle for Pandora becomes not just a fight for survival, but a meditation on grief, resilience, and the power of unity. With groundbreaking visuals and an emotional core that burns brighter than ever, Cameron transforms the screen into cinema’s most ambitious odyssey.

THE RUNNING MAN

DIRECTOR: EDGAR WRIGHT

Starring: Glen Powell, Josh Brolin

Visionary filmmaker Edgar Wright reimagines Stephen King’s futuristic nightmare with pulse-pounding energy and razorsharp style. Glen Powell stars as a man forced into a deadly televised game where survival means outrunning not only brutal “stalkers” but also a society addicted to violence-asentertainment.Strap in for an infusion the high-stakes chase with biting social satire, whip-smart visuals, and relentless action. A thrilling cocktail that feels as timely as it is terrifying.

THE CHORAL

DIRECTOR: NICHOLAS HYTNER

Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Roger Allam

A sweeping, heartfelt drama, The Choral tells a story where music becomes both sanctuary and resistance in the shadow of war. Ralph Fiennes commands the screen as a stoic, haunted conductor who arrives in a Yorkshire town, reluctantly drawn into leading its struggling choir. Both he and the townsfolk he eventually bonds with navigate grief, hope, and the transformative force of song in a story that crescendos toward both heartbreak and triumph. With soaring performances and a stirring score, The Choral is a moving reminder that sometimes the strongest defiance comes not from silence but from harmony.

Autumn has been a season of celebration for Nick and Royston. Still in the midst of renovating their beautiful home, their calendar has been packed with special events, milestone birthdays and opportunities to support causes close to their hearts.

Marking its fifth anniversary, the KMC Ball once again delivered a dazzling evening of glamour and generosity. Held at The Boathouse, Aston Marina, the ball raised vital funds for two incredible causes – the James Bulger Memorial Trust and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Nick and Royston were joined by their dear friend Claire Caudwell as guests enjoyed a champagne reception, a sumptuous three-course dinner and a line-up of sensational entertainment. Headlining the night was soul icon Beverley Knight, a highlight that made the evening especially meaningful for James’s mom, Denise, who is a devoted fan. Beverley’s passion for these causes shone through, making it a night to remember.

THE ENDEAVOUR PROJECT

The Midland Hotel in Manchester played host to a vibrant fundraising Friday in aid of the Endeavour Project. Hosted by the fabulous Boy Gorgeous, the event invited guests to step Back to the 80’s

Nick and Royston joined a lively crowd of supporters, including celebrity guest Tricia Penrose, to relive the decade’s bold fashions and infectious music. A daytime disco brought everyone to the dancefloor, with the celebrations continuing late into the night at the legendary New York, New York afterparty.

A SPECIAL CELEBRATION AT GRANTLEY HALL

When it came to celebrating the 60th birthday of their dear friend Julie Millard, Nick and Royston searched for a setting as special as the occasion. They found it at Grantley Hall – a breathtaking 17th-century estate on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

Blending stately grandeur with contemporary elegance, the venue proved the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable celebration. After a pampering session at the hotel’s luxury spa, guests were treated to champagne and canapés, followed by a night of entertainment, DJ sets and dancing. The festivities carried on into the cocktail bar for an afterparty that capped off a weekend to remember. Nick and Royston have already vowed to return.

SOLIHULL GAY PRIDE – LOVE IS LOVE

History was made in Solihull as the town hosted its first-ever Gay Pride weekend, aptly themed Love is Love. The two-day celebration brought together thousands of visitors from all ages and backgrounds, creating a joyful showcase of LGBTQ+ pride and culture.

Nick and Royston were honoured to serve as special guests for the occasion. Royston proudly led the vibrant parade, dancing through the streets of Solihull for a mile alongside a rainbow of colour and energy. The weekend was filled with live music, laughter, and love, leaving the community already counting down the days to next year’s Pride.

mesmerising mumBai

mumbai, the wealthiest of India’s cities, offers an intriguing insight into a rich, vibrant culture and a colourful history and I was eager to explore.

mumbai was once an archipelago of seven islands, essentially fishing colonies, governed by successive native empires, prior to being ceded to the Portuguese in 1535.

In 1737 the Portuguese presence ended and Bombay quickly developed into a major centre for trade. the English eventually gained control through a number of treaties following the first Anglo maratha War.

In 1792 William Hornby, Governor of Bombay, was responsible for a major project to build a causeway which united the seven islands with a deep natural harbour. By 1838 the project was complete and Bombay was transformed into a significant seaport and the city flourished.

In 1853 India’s first passenger railway line was established and due to the outbreak of the American Civil War, Bombay became the world’s leading cotton trader. Four years later the Suez Canal opened, Bombay prospered and in 1876 queen Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India.

On arrival, I made my way to the taj mahal Palace Hotel, located in the Colaba area. the property consists of the old Palace Wing, dating back to 1903 and reflects the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, with the adjoining tower Wing, built in the 1970s. After a swift check-in I was escorted to my accommodation as my luggage was whisked away. I opted to stay in the Gateway to India Suite, which is beautifully furnished and offers a private balcony with panoramic views of Colaba Bay, the Arabian Sea and the Gateway to India. the suite, which measures 121 square metres, is adorned with exquisite period features, a glittering chandelier and a large bed swathed with crisp, white linens, ensuring a deep and restful slumber.

Up with the larks I decided to take the short stroll along to the Gateway of India, which is one of mumbai’s most striking monuments.

Designed by George Wittet and located on the waterfront in the Apollo Bunder area, it was completed in 1924 and commemorates King George V and queen mary’s 1911 visit to Bombay. the yellow basalt arch reflects the Indo-Gothic style and stands 85 feet high. It was the first structure to come into sight for passengers arriving at mumbai by sea.

In 1947 India achieved independence and the last British troops marched through the Gateway, signalling the end of the British Raj. Once a ceremonial entrance to India for visiting dignitaries, tourists today are keen to pass by the arch in the footsteps of royalty and to announce their arrival to bemused locals. I am not ashamed to say that I did just that.

Another popular site is the Victoria terminus railway station, now renamed Chhatrapti Shivaji, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. this fabulous building in the Bori Bunda area was designed by Frederick William Stevens and reflects Victorian Gothic architecture and the style of the traditional mughal. Built in 1887 to celebrate queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, it is absolutely breathtaking and the fact that three million commuters jostle for space on the overcrowded trains every day provides an insight into life in the city.

my next stop was on the flyover bridge at mahalaxmi railway station where I was

rewarded with a spectacular view of the Dhobi Ghat. Said to be the world’s largest open air laundry, it is the place where the laundry men, ‘Dhobis’, work furiously side by side washing enormous mounds of laundry for mumbai’s hospitals, hotels, local homes and businesses. the Dhobis stand in a concrete pen, filled with water, alongside a flogging stone, and the slaps of the linens and clothes are clearly audible as they are washed by hand. Established in 1890 and owned by the municipal council, the Dhobis pay rental for the pen space and families have been living and working there for generations. In 2011 the Dhobi Ghat was featured in the Guinness Book of Records when it was noted that 496 Dhobis were washing clothes simultaneously in one location.

Visit mumbai, you too are sure to be mesmerised.

vauXhall mokka

the market place is awash with SUV vehicles, I can’t think really of any manufacturer that is not represented in this particular category. Your choice is huge and for the discerning buyer I would suggest you have a look and check out Vauxhall and the new mokka, writes Bob Hickman.

this latest generation is crisper, and a stylish vehicle, the re-designed front with the integrated lighting and angular look makes it a stand out vehicle. It has a very interesting aerodynamic shape and low drag factor which suggest economy at all times.

to make it easy for the buyer Vauxhall have really cut back on the number of variances. there is a Design, GS, and an Ultimate, therefore 3 choices to make. In the engine department there is 1.2-litre engine producing 136ps with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 130ps 1.2-litre turbo engine with auto box.

Interior space is more than adequate especially for the driver and front seat passenger, but let’s not overlook this is not a huge SUV, this

is one of those in the mid-range so there is sufficient room in the back for a child seat and passengers, but only for the shorter journey. Boot space at 350 litres is more than adequate for most of your needs.

the mokka proved able to deal with all the bumps and pot holes on our road system. In and around town the light steering and smallish dimensions always gave you a reassuring feeling, parking spaces were not too difficult to manoeuvre into. Whilst being an SUV it has a slightly raised suspension and a taller body which can equate to slightly better visibility but certainly nothing to get too excited about.

the mokka is a reasonably quiet car to drive, long motorway journeys are therefore less stressful with no wind or tyre noise to give you a headache.

the driver benefits from a multi adjustable seat, the instrumentation is easy to understand and pretty useful. Driving the mokka was simplicity in itself, aided by the electrically

adjustable front door mirrors and adjustable multi adjustable steering wheel made driving the vehicle quite a pleasant companion, the automatic gear box worked very well anticipating my driving needs in all situations.

the interior a twin screen set up with 2, 10” displays for the infotainment system and instrumentation. It does take some time to be able to get to know what does what but with the efficient steering wheel switches and dials, you need to think it through but if this is your purchase you would take the time to acclimatise yourself and become friendly with the mokka. I was impressed that you get wireless Apple Play and Android Auto, very useful to navigate in and around an unknown area.

the Climate control was also easy to find on the touchscreen but as regular readers will know, I am not a big lover of everything being controlled with the touchscreen.

my particular mokka was the GS variant, this was the mid-range vehicle and it incorporated an extensive amount of technological assistance for the driver. Lane Departure, traffic sign recognition, a driver drowsiness alert, forward collision alert, hill start assists and one of the features that you do really need, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

the GS mokka with the 18” diamond cut wheels, high gloss front and rear bumper inserts and with the black roof, it really enhanced the overall external appearance.

I think if your budget for a SUV is reasonably sensible then the mokka range start from just marginally over £20,000. the GS mokka as tested, had an on the road price of £29,110, but the nice people at Vauxhall had added a 2-coat metallic paint at a further £650 making the price £29,660.

Our Finance & Legal rumours, reality, and the autumn Budget: a smarter approach

Budget Confirmed: What We Actually know Chancellor Rachel Reeves will deliver her first Autumn Budget on 26 November, facing what’s been called a £40bn “black hole” in public finances. Labour has reiterated their manifesto promise not to raise taxes on “working people” through income tax, national insurance, or VAt increases, but other taxes are likely under review. Beyond that, details remain tightly under wraps— making much of the chatter little more than speculation.

The Speculation Storm

From social media feeds to WhatsApp groups, predictions are flying—often politically motivated or pure clickbait. Rumours range from wealth taxes to cuts in pension lump sums, with capital gains and inheritance tax changes among the most widely touted. Yet none are confirmed.

Why Reacting Could Be Costly

History shows that acting on budget gossip often backfires. In 2024, some who rushed to crystallise pensions ahead of rumoured cuts

to tax-free cash ended up locking in poor outcomes and missing market growth.

Acting on speculation could prove to be the worst financial decision —past cycles show those who panicked were often worse off than those who stayed disciplined with their long-term strategies.
