As the foremost domestic glass replacement company in the UK for more than 18 years, Cloudy2Clear Windows are the leading name in the industry. There is now no need for you to risk your windows by using the dreaded double glazing cowboy down the street. You can join over 340,000 happy customers and replace your glass ethically and affordably. If you have a failed glass unit it may not provide you with the protection you need, or be as energy-efficient as it once was. Why not take a minute to check your home to see if any double glazing has failed? Taking action now can prevent future financial problems.

When talking to the Manager of Cloudy2Clear James Stanley it became evident that the value of saving their customers money has been held dear for a number

of years. In addition since starting the business in 2005, Cloudy2Clear have committed to supporting the local community by providing a service that saves the public both time and money.

The Cloudy2Clear service only requires the glass to be replaced and not the whole window once the unit has failed. James commented “By doing this we make the customer considerable savings and there is much less upheaval in the family home. Also, whether communities find themselves in a financial crisis or not, saving money when you don’t need to waste it is always the sensible option, and our service does just that”.

your besPoke assessment

in my previous articles, i talked about the fact that exercise science has progressed / changed dramatically over the last 40 years. Despite these advancements there remains very few ‘fully qualified’ exercise specialists. understanding how our bodies move is the key to understanding what each and every one of us should do – highlighting why exercising is so personal. We are all individuals and we all therefore have our own unique patterns of movement, known as our unique kinetic chain of movement. – our own unique biomechanics. understanding our unique biomechanical movement is crucial. Just following any of the past or present exercise ‘trends’ is just not acceptable, because it simply does not work. to fully understand these complex but fascinating biomechanical movement patterns please refer to my new book “ the Father Figure of Fitness “, available through my website thefatherfigureoffitness. com.

this book will explain why the whole world of exercise is still currently getting so many things wrong – you will learn how and why i operate so completely differently to any other Personal trainer, and you will understand how and why i have formulated / developed the exercise routines that i have used for many years with all my celebrity clients. these uniquely formulated programmes are also available via my website. You will understand why so many individuals get ankle discomfort / pain whilst walking, knee discomfort / pain from running, hip discomfort / pain from

playing golf and lower back pain from almost anything else, even daily life. More importantly you will understand how and why my exercise routine rectify, soothe and nurture all of these musculo-skeletal issues, ridding the body of pain, allowing it to flourish and work efficiently, banishing all niggles, aches, pains and injuries for good.

i would like to start this year with an offer. if you are a complete beginner, a regular exerciser, a sports person or someone who suffers from back, ankle, knee, hip shoulder discomfort or pain – then i am offering a chance of a one-to-one bespoke assessment, and the development of your own unique personal exercise programme. So, if you would like to train like a celebrity, please contact me;

tel no. - 07557 876605 email - sandnthomas@ sky.com, and we can arrange a personal visit to my studio / clinic in Clent, nr Hagley for your specialised analysis and treatment.

in central london and with my celebrity clients this would usually cost £250-£300, but i am offering a new year discounted price of £100, to anyone who lives in the locality. KickStart 2025 with a new you and discover the secrets that will allow you to exercise correctly for the rest of your life.

mental ill HealtH seasonal blues

As a counsellor, i see a pattern in the problems clients present to me, throughout the year, that could almost be looked at as being seasonal.

it’s not quite as black and white as people suffering from depression in the winter months, anxiety in the spring, couples’ issues in the summer and teenager problems in the autumn, but there does appear to be trends associated with seasons.

For example, the new school year in September and the following few months, particularly for 14 to 18 year olds, seems to bring a larger concentration of stress and anxiety related conditions.

Christmas particularly and just after, family and relationship concerns.

April, and we see a trend forming around depression illnesses (this also coincides with the highest numbers in a month, for suicide)*

Seeing a counsellor doesn't hold the stigma it used to, thankfully. When i was growing up, if someone saw a counsellor, it was a sign of weakness, particularly if you were a man and while there is still a stigma attached to seeking mental health help, it’s much less that it was.

thankfully, we have seen a change in that way of thinking as generations come and go, meaning that for some, in fact, probably for most, counselling is now seen as a form of selfdevelopment, and in many social settings, it's encouraged. As our next generation hits the

workforce, even more will see counselling as a social norm.

that being said, the importance of counselling should not ever be underestimated. While it’s becoming increasingly socially acceptable to seek personal help that shouldn’t lessen the impact of counselling or make conditions that counselling or therapy treat, any less important.

the differing array of symptoms and conditions require different methods of counselling. these methods used are more down to the individual needs of the patient rather than the condition they present with. Some patients might respond better to CBt (Cognitive Behavioural therapy) others, SFt (Solution Focused therapy) or Humanistic Counselling.

Among them was Nick Tucker, who moved from South Wales a decade ago to work alongside Royston at the Shrewsbury salon. Under the expert mentorship of Nick and Royston, he honed his craft building a reputation as a sought-after stylist working with numerous celebrities.

Following lockdown, Nick made the decision to stay in Wales and, with the unwavering support of Nick and Royston, he launched Nicholas James. Their bond remained strong and when Nick decided to enter the British Hair Awards, his mentors were honoured to support him.

The excitement peaked at The Grosvenor, where Nick and Royston joined his team for the grand final. When it was announced that Nick had won Wales and Southwest Hairdresser of the Year, the celebration was electric! An incredible achievement and a proud moment for all who have worked with him at Royston Blythe.

BALLS TO CANCER: A NIGHT OF GLAMOUR AND GIVING

Since its inception in 2011, Balls to Cancer has been a beacon of hope, offering vital support to those affected by cancer and also their families. Their annual charity ball has become a much-anticipated event, raising crucial funds and elevating awareness.

This year’s glamorous gathering took place at the stunning Grand Station, hosted by Mark Richards. Guests indulged in a decadent seasonal three-course dinner, with a dazzling line-up of celebrities and spectacular entertainment.

Among the famous faces asked to support the event were Nick and Royston, the legendary Bobby Ball and fan favourites The Malones from Gogglebox, all contributing to an unforgettable evening of generosity and celebration.

With next year’s tickets already secured, the countdown to another magical night has begun!

THE HALLS: ROYSTON TAKES CENTRE STAGE

This year saw Royston return to the spotlight in Snow White and The Seven Drag Queens. The Northeast Adult Pantomime embarked on a nationwide tour and invited Royston to make a special guest appearance at The Halls, playing the hilariously cheeky Magic Mirror.

Sharing the stage with an all-star cast, including Celebrity Big Brother winner David Potts and a lineup of RuPaul’s Drag Race queens, Royston delivered a show-stopping performance. His trademark wit and playful humour had the audience roaring with laughter.

Verdict? One night simply wasn’t enough! Encore, please!

JOANNE’S 60TH: A BIRTHDAY TO REMEMBER

Celebrating a milestone in true style, Jo Bridgwood marked her 60th birthday with an unforgettable weekend at the Old Vicarage, Worfield.

The festivities began with a champagne reception welcoming family and closest friends, including Nick and Royston, to the elegant black-tie affair. Jo looked breathtaking in a classic black evening gown, setting the tone for a night of sophistication and celebration.

The evening commenced with a heartfelt tribute from Nick, honouring their lifelong friendship, followed by an exquisite gourmet dinner and entertainment.

A truly special evening for a truly special lady. Cheers to Jo!

easter a sPring Holiday

WitH religious origins

the exact origins of day are unknown. Pagan folklore claims the word easter is derived eastre (or eostre), the Anglo Saxon goddess of spring. A festival called eastre was held during the spring equinox to honour her. eastre’s earth symbol was a hare, also known as symbol of fertility and perhaps the origins of the easter bunny.

the spring equinox is a time where the earth renews itself after the winter. the egg is widely used as a symbol of new life and re-birth and so became a symbol of easter.

in the Christian faith easter has come to mean the celebration of the resurrection of Christ from the tomb, three days after his crucifixion. it is the oldest and most significant holiday in the church year. easter Sunday comes after lent, a 40 day period of fasting.

Other accounts trace easter to the latin term hebdomada alba, or white week. in reference to the white clothing worn by people who were baptized during that time. through a translation error, the term later appeared as esostarum in Old High german, which eventually became easter in english.

in Spanish, easter is known as Pascua; in French, Paques. these words are derived from the greek and latin Pascha or Pasch, for Passover, which is the celebration to commemorate the liberation of Jews from the slavery of the egyptians in ancient times.

As with most religious and historic festivals easter has now become a commercial venture.

Did you know, over 90 million chocolate easter bunnies are made each year.?

this year easter Sunday falls on Sunday 20th April. Most of us will enjoy a 4 day holiday from good Friday 18th April to easter bank holiday Monday 21st April - and most of us will enjoy the time with family and friends eating far too much chocolate!

an anCient Celebration

the origin of Mother’s Day go back to the ancient greek and romans.

the greeks held an annual spring festival and used the occasion to honour rhea, wife of Cronus and the mother of many deities of greek mythology.

Ancient romans, too, celebrated a spring festival, called Hilaria dedicated to Cybele, a mother goddess. the celebration lasted for three days and included parades and games.

Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of lent and this year falls on 30th March. its often referred to as Mothers’ Day, but that is in fact, a completely different American festival celebrated at a different time of year.

traditionally, it was a day when employees, who were staying away from home, such as domestic servants, were given a day off and encouraged to visit their mother and family.

Historically, churchgoers worshipped on Sundays at their nearest parish, known as their ‘daughter’ church. Centuries ago it was deemed important for people to return to their home or ‘mother’ church once a year.

the return to the ‘mother’ church became an occasion for family reunions. i ts a popular belief that this return is what led to the tradition of Mothering Sunday.

the custom of celebrating Mothering Sunday died out almost completely by the 19th century. However, was celebrated again after World War ii, when American servicemen brought the custom and commercial enterprises used it as an occasion for sales.

today this special day, commercial or not, is a chance to reflect and give thanks to our mothers and is a particularly poignant time to remember loved ones no longer with us.

INTR o DUCTI o N

this dish is my take on a classic italian porchetta, traditionally made with pork. i’ve adapted it using chicken thighs to create a lighter, quicker version that’s just as flavourful. Stuffed with shallots, N’duja, fresh herbs, garlic, and a hint of citrus, this recipe balances rich, savoury flavours with a crisp, golden skin. it’s the perfect lunch for friends on a sunny day. inspired by my years working in pubs and restaurants, this recipe combines rustic charm with a touch of refinement — comfort food with a little flair.

1. PREHEAT yo UR ov EN

Set your oven to 190°C (375°F).

2. PREPARE THE CHICKEN THIGHS

Check the chicken thighs for any small bits of bone.

lay the chicken thighs out on a clean surface and spread out, using a sharp knife, cut into the thicker parts to open them out and then season with slat and pepper.

Our

3. mAKE THE N’DUJA STUFFING

Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced shallots, cooking until softened (about 5 minutes).

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the N’duja, breaking it up with a spoon as it melts into the mixture.

Mix in the fresh rosemary, thyme, and lemon zest. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. remove from heat and let cool slightly.

4. ASSE m B l E THE CHICKEN R oll S

evenly spread the N’duja mixture over the seasoned chicken thighs and allow to cool completely so the n’duja sets back to firm. Now roll each thigh as tightly as possible without squeezing out the filling.

Secure with butcher’s twine, tying at 1-2 inch intervals to prevent them from opening during cooking.

5. SEAR THE CHICKEN

Heat 1-2 tbsp olive oil in an ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken rolls on all sides until golden brown (about 4 minutes).

Deglaze the pan with white wine, scraping up any browned bits, then pour in the chicken stock.

6. R oAST IN THE ov EN

transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.

roast for 35-45 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 75°C (165°F).

Once cooked, remove from the oven and loosely cover with foil. let the chicken rest for 10 minutes.

7. PREPARE THE FENNE l SA l AD

toss the fennel in olive oil and roast for 12 minutes at 180˚C. Allow to cool and then mix with fresh sliced red onion and the marinated artichoke pieces. toss with a little olive oil and lemon juice and carefully arrange on your plates with shavings of parmesan, basil, parsley and rocket.

8. SER v E

Slice the rested chicken rolls and arrange on the salad with some of the juices. Serve with a basket of sourdough bread and butters, tapenade and pesto.

CHEF’S TIPS

For extra crispy chicken skin, pat the thighs dry with paper towels before seasoning. if you don’t have N’duja, you can substitute it with spicy chorizo, finely chopped.

1. PREPARE THE G l ASSES

Scoop one generous portion of gelato into each serving glass. if you have room place these into the freezer while you prepare the espresso.

2. BREW THE ESPRESS o

You need one shot minimum per person. An espresso machine is good but i’d invest in a large stove top italian percolator. Failing this you can use a French press or filter coffee machine. it’s just not as good.

3. ADD THE A mARETTo

Pour 1 tbsp of amaretto over the gelato.

4. P o UR THE ESPRESS o

Pour the espresso over the gelato whilst piping hot, this will melt the gelato creating a rich creamy blend.

5. GARNISH

to finish off your masterpiece crush amaretti biscuits over the top and shave the dark chocolate using the potato peeler. Move quickly so the gelato doesn’t melt too much. (You can prep the crushed biscuit and chocolate shavings in advance to save time when serving)

glittering gold. Discovered in 1693 it dates back to the 9th century, during the reign of Alfred the great. Another piece of huge interest is the stunning violin, the Messiah Salabue Stradivarius, made by Antonio Stradivari and dated 1716. i also stood transfixed as i gazed upon an Arab ceremonial gown owned by lawrence of Arabia, one of my heroes. With my intense scrutiny of the exhibits cut short i reluctantly returned to my hotel.

up with the larks, my visit to Oxford was coming to an end. However, i had one more treat in store and hopped into a taxi for the short trip to the Cherwell Boathouse restaurant located by the river Cherwell opposite the biggest and most popular punt station. the location is exceptional, a tranquil haven surrounded by beautiful scenery. i ordered the succulent Chana Masala, followed by the Pimm’s jelly and a chilled glass of Chardonnay and as i watched people embarking onto the punts i held my glass aloft in admiration for Oxford, the city of dreaming spires.

audi a3

it has been quite a few years since i owned an Audi A3 so it was with a degree of interest that the new latest version of the A3 was presented to me for a road test, writes Bob Hickman.

the 4th generation, has been on sale since the beginning of 2024, and the range has now been extended to include manuals, automatics, and 7-speed S-tronic gearboxes, the power train has also been changed to include 1.5-litre petrol, and 2-litre diesels, the product range is quite extensive.

the A3 is an interesting saloon vehicle. it has a style all of its own, the 4 circular badge on the front indicate that this a quality vehicle, something like the Mercedes 3 star or the BMW roundel.

the 2024 update has modified headlights and altered grille, so that you can see the badge is more pronounced, not a great deal to change because in the age-old phrase if it isn’t broken why repair or mend it.

People who are used to Audi’s will become very familiar with the virtual cockpit layout and it is now a standard feature on all of the vehicles. the interior was always smart, well put together and an excellent vehicle to be cocooned within.

the A3 has a large 10.1-inch infotainment screen and it has been integrated in to the dashboard, the graphics and information is clear and easily understood and what i do like is the number of controls that are still operated by the steering wheel. Yes, there are one or two features on the screen that are touch to adjust, but the bulk can still be controlled by the steering wheel, a feature that i prefer.

the space within the vehicle was really quite good, and what i did like was the amount of boot space. i had a week’s holiday down in Devon and the boot swallowed everything we could put in.

On the open road the A3 is a wonderful

performer, it is very comfortable around town and on the motorways, it was a quiet luxury vehicle to travel in and traverse mile after mile with very little wind or tyre noise coming back through the vehicle in to the cab.

the driving dynamics in and around town were one of an easy companion with parking sensors and a rear view camera to assist, although the vehicle not being over large you could soon slot it in to a parking spot. even on twisty roads the steering was responsive, precise, lots of grip was available and there was very little if any discernible body roll.

the interior was very generous for passengers especially in the front, where you do have a lot of head, leg and shoulder room, even in the rear of the vehicle there was no problem for 2 adults, 3 children would fit comfortably. i like the factor as well that there is lots of storage, the door bins can fit in a 1-litre bottle and also a new one for me the phone goes in to a tray in front of where the gear lever should be and then it wirelessly charges it.

the A3 from a driving perspective is a vehicle you need to sit in for some considerable

time to become fully aware how the virtual cockpit works, with the press of a button you can change the display of the driver from navigation to mileage, fuel economy, ambient temperature, radio, a whole plethora of features that you just need to get comfortable with.

My particular A3 was the 35tFSi S tronic, 150PS, this had a 1498cc 4-cylinder engine, producing 150 bhp, more than sufficient to give a top speed of 144mph and a 0-60 gallop in marginally over 8 seconds. Fuel consumption was claimed by Audi at 54mpg, i achieved, during a week and about 600 miles in the region of 50mpg, which for the size of the vehicle, the performance and the whole ambience of being with the A3, i thought was acceptable. the CO emissions is given as 119g/km.

the Audi A3 range are priced from £28,920 up to a quite substantial £52,960 for the S3 quattro 330bhp engine, so there is a huge diversification between A3 entry level at 116 bhp up to an almost fire breathing 333 bhp quatro.

a mindset for suCCess

As Mark twain famously said about cats and stoves, investors often avoid the stock market entirely because they got burned once.

Most investors make mistakes, often chasing winning funds, buying high and selling low; reacting emotionally, they tinker and react instead of sticking to a plan. these investors do not set out on a mission to fail, however, due to the human condition, they are tempted into making irrational, emotion-driven decisions, during times of uncertainty.

Behavioural science helps us understand why we fall into these traps, and awareness can help us avoid them. in order to embrace an uncertain future, an investor should model three key mindsets. these mindsets may be simple, but they will be challenging to hang on to:

long-term perspective – perspective about what it is that you are trying to achieve on your investing journey and why it is that you are trying to build wealth.

Acceptance of short-term disappointment

– setbacks are inevitable, and in investment markets, this shows up as market volatility, times during which asset values decrease in price.

Patience – great results come to those willing to wait to see the fruits of their labour.

these mindsets play out differently, but we know how great investors will implement them. they will typically invest in a globally diversified portfolio with low fees and then apply discipline and patience. they understand declines will happen but will avoid reacting to them, knowing this is part of achieving long-term returns. When it comes to it, they do not change their strategy.

there is no guarantee about the future, but those who remain steadfast during times of uncertainty will reap the rewards in the long term.

At Cre8 our systematic approach to investing means our portfolios are low cost, well diversified and we help you limit portfolio change.
