Whether you’re living in your forever home or settling into a new space, staying current with your interiors is a constant dance between what’s timeless and what’s trending. As we step into 2025, it’s clear: some design choices that once felt fresh and modern now anchor our homes in the past—not in a charming, nostalgic way, but in a “please renovate me” sort of way.
the truth is, interior trends evolve—and some faster than others. While enduring design principles always have a place, certain outdated elements are making even the most well loved spaces feel a little tired. if your home is clinging to any of these designs “icks,” it may be time for a refresh! Please be sitting down whilst reading, as you may be guilty!
1. T HE E RA OF G RE y I S Ov ER
Grey had a moment—an entire decade, in fact. But the reign of millennial Grey is now firmly in the rear view mirror. Originally adopted as a clean, modern alternative to beige, this cool tone has saturated everything from walls to
floors; leaving interiors feeling flat, cold, and a little too reminiscent of early 2010s buildergrade finishes.
Cool-toned greys are out. they lack the warmth and personality today’s interiors crave. instead, we’re heading into the rise of colour drenching, bold and vibrant colours, cosy, character-rich palettes—think warm woods, earthy browns, and creamy neutrals that create depth and invite you in.
2. S Ay G OODByE TO MATCHy-MATCHy F URNITURE
Remember when matching furniture sets were the pinnacle of put-together? in 2025, that uniform look reads more catalogues than curated. identical pieces from big-box stores often strip a space of its soul, replacing personality with predictability.
matching sets feel uninspired. A thoughtfully mixed collection—layering different textures, finishes, and styles—makes a home feel collected, not copied.
Our Home
the modern aesthetic is layered, personal, and often includes vintage, custom, or artisanmade pieces that speak to the individuality of those who live there.
Homes that feel overly staged or try too hard to follow every trend feel flat. Design today is about storytelling of the owner not styling.
3. Pl AIN COUNTERTOPS PASS.
for years, neutral countertops—solid white quartz, speckled granite, and basic laminate— were the go-to for a “timeless” kitchen. But in 2025, these safe surfaces are being left behind in favour of bolder, more expressive materials.
Cold sterile countertops are out. instead, we’re embracing natural stone and quartz with movement—veining, texture, and variation that make a statement. think dramatic marble, honed limestone, or richly patterned quartzite. these materials bring life to a kitchen, elevating it from functional to fabulous. After all, your countertops are one of the largest visual investments in your kitchen—why settle for something forgettable?
Design isn’t about chasing every trend—it’s about creating spaces that reflect who you are now, while still honouring what makes a home timeless.
4. “lI v E, lAUGH, lO v E” – A ND OTHER D ECORATI v E D IRECTI v ES W E’RE lEAv ING B EHIND
One cardinal rule of elevated interior design? Never let your walls tell you how to feel.
While the infamous “Live, Laugh, Love” vinyl decal has become something of a punch line in design circles, the sentiment behind it lingers—migrating from cursive wall stickers to framed prints that command everything from “Bon Appétit” in the kitchen to “Ciao Bella” in the hallway.
yes, we see the appeal—these phrases are well intentioned, playful, and seemingly harmless. But in 2025, this style of decorative signage feels more generic than joyful. it lacks the nuance and individuality that today’s interiors demand. your home isn’t a coffee shop or an Airbnb—and it shouldn’t be styled like one. instead of leaning on mass-produced affirmations, designers are steering clients toward original artwork, family heirlooms, or pieces that evoke feeling without spelling it out.
if you want your space to express warmth, personality, or humour, let your materials, colours, and textures do the talking. Handcrafted ceramics, layered textiles, vintage finds, or even a well-curated gallery wall will tell your story far more beautifully than a scripted command to “gather.” Bottom line? if your walls are shouting at your guests, it might be time to ask them to quiet down!
5. B OUC lé Ov ER lOAD – T IME TO G I v E T HIS T REND A B REATHER
there’s no denying bouclé had a moment. Soft, textural, and impossibly cosy, it quickly became the choice of furniture fabric seen on instagram feeds everywhere.
from curved sofas to accent chairs and ottomans, the nubby fabric found its way into just about every modern living space. But like all trends that go from fresh to formulaic, bouclé has officially hit saturation point.
What once felt tactile and luxurious is now starting to feel… predictable. Bouclé was beautiful in moderation, but when every piece in a room is wrapped in the same fuzzy texture, it flattens the overall design. there’s no contrast, no story.
As we move into 2025, interiors are gravitating toward richer, more varied textures—and none are making a bigger impact than jeweltoned velvets. emerald, sapphire, amethyst,
Our Home
and ruby hues in plush velvet fabrics are stealing the spotlight. Not only do they lend a sophisticated, high-design edge, but they also elevate vintage silhouettes and create a sense of layered opulence. While bouclé still has its place (a single occasional chair, a cosy throw), designers are now advocating for balance and diversity in materials
texture is crucial—but it needs variation to shine. it’s time to let bouclé rest and give your interiors a tactile richness they truly deserve. Pairing natural linen, leather, velvet, and wood creates a far more engaging and enduring space.
6. All-W HITE WA ll S – A Bl AN k C AN vAS T HAT ’S lOST I TS C HARM
Once the hallmark of minimalist, gallery-style interiors, all-white walls are quietly exiting the design scene in 2025—and not a moment too soon. While white offered a clean, airy backdrop for years, today’s homes are craving more warmth, more soul, and a whole lot more personality.
White walls can feel sterile and forgettable; i’ve always gravitated toward colour and texture—elements that bring individuality and depth to a space. A completely white room can often feel unfinished, like a canvas waiting for a story.
2025 interiors pattern-rich wallpapers, moody paint tones, and layered finishes that create intimacy and character. Wallpaper, once considered out-dated, is having a renaissance—think botanical prints, textured grass cloth, hand-painted murals, or bold geometrics that instantly elevate a room. Whether you use it to define a dining nook, add drama to a powder room, or bring life to a dull hallway, wallpaper offers a level of artistry that plain white simply can’t compete with. Walls are no longer just backdrops—they’re becoming focal points. it’s time to trade in blank white expanses for walls that speak,
inspire, and express who you are. But hold fire, don’t just order a wallpaper online, contact Jennifer to open your eye’s to a world of luxury quality wallpapers and think pairing the woodwork and ceilings to all work in harmony.
Designing forward: the end of Out-dated trends
As we leave behind these once popular but now-tired trends, one thing is clear: interior design in 2025 is all about intentionality. the days of fast décor, overly coordinated sets, and design-by-algorithm are behind us. in their place, we’re embracing homes that reflect personality, warmth, and depth—spaces that feel not just styled, but lived in and loved.
Whether it’s swapping sterile grey for earthy warmth, replacing word art with meaningful pieces, or trading bouclé overload for sumptuous velvets, the common thread is character. Design today isn’t about following every trend—it’s about curating a home that tells your story, layered with thoughtful textures, colours, and pieces collected over time. So if your home still leans on a few of these outdated choices, don’t panic. Design is an evolution, not a one-time event.
Start small. Repaint a wall. Rehome a massmarket piece. Add bold wallpaper or invest in a unique vintage find. each step moves you closer to a space that feels truly and unapologetically you. Because in the end, great design isn’t just about what’s trending— it’s about what endures.

Did you know that your ears do so much more than allow you to enjoy the sounds of the world around you?
your local hearing experts at Hear in Hagley, Hear in Wombourne and Hear in Rubery, understand that hearing health means so much more. it's linked to your overall wellbeing, including your balance and stability. Research highlights a significant connection between hearing loss and an increased risk of falls, a concern we want to address proactively for our community.
HOW DOES HEARING IMPACT BAlANCE?
your inner ear plays a crucial role in maintaining balance. Alongside processing sound, it houses the vestibular system, which senses movement and helps you stay oriented. When hearing is impaired, the brain has to dedicate more cognitive resources to processing sound, potentially leaving less attention available for balance control. this can make you more susceptible to losing your footing, especially in challenging environments.
Studies have shown that even mild hearing loss can triple the risk of accidental falls in older adults. this risk increases as hearing gets worse. Several factors contribute to this link. Reduced spatial awareness due to difficulty localising sounds can make navigating obstacles more challenging. furthermore, the social isolation often associated with untreated hearing loss can lead to decreased physical activity and muscle weakness, further impacting balance. the consequences of falls can be significant, ranging from minor injuries and reduced confidence to more serious fractures and hospitalisations. Addressing hearing loss isn't just about improving communication; it's
about safeguarding independence and quality of life.
there are 5 million falls reported each year, with 25% of those over 65 years old, 50% over 80 years old.
HOW CAN WE HElP?
At our Hear In clinics, we take a holistic approach to your hearing health. Our comprehensive hearing assessments not only identify the extent of any hearing loss but also allow us to discuss potential implications for your balance. Several studies prove that hearing aids improve our balance & stability by improving spatial awareness and reducing the cognitive load on your brain, potentially contributing to better balance.
So, if you know someone that is not hearing so well and are not as steady on their feet, why not encourage them to take proactive steps and have their hearing checked.
A simple hearing assessment can be the first step towards a steadier and more confident future. Let us help you stay on your feet and continue enjoying life to the fullest. Remember, your ears are for more than hearing, they are integral part of your overall safety and wellbeing.

soLves cHronIc Back anD neck PaIn
A Wombourne-based physiotherapy clinic has reported some remarkable results from patients who have completed its revolutionary Spinal Decompression Programme, with some even cancelling planned operations.
Optispine’s 7-step approach, which combines the latest in technology and therapy, has changed the lives of many of its patients suffering with chronic back and neck pain, helping them to find relief through a long-term solution that really works.
mother-of-one, talash Chopra, had her life turned upside down when she sustained a major disc prolapse. She went from a normal life, working in a school, enjoying family life and exercising in her spare time, to being unable to stand or sit for more than a minute or two. talash could only find relief by lying down and needed to take strong painkillers, which weren’t particularly effective. eventually, there was only one option open to her; she was recommended to undergo spinal surgery – a step she was reluctant to take.
talash confirmed: “i couldn’t walk or stand up straight and was in constant pain but, after my course of decompression therapy, i am now back at work, able to drive and can continue with day-to-day activities. i’m also off the painkillers and, more importantly, i no longer need an operation.”
Optispine’s specialised programme offers effective non-surgical treatment to patients suffering from a wide range of conditions, including herniated discs, pinched nerves, sciatica, degenerative discs, spinal stenosis and more.
Not just for back pain, the treatment has also helped office worker, Ann Baddams, who for over three years suffered with excruciating
neck pain, leaving her with pins and needles down her left arm and often unable to move her head. Struggling to sleep at night without strong painkillers, Ann began weekly physiotherapy but, due to the severity of her condition, she needed a nerve root block injection, which unfortunately failed, and was subsequently offered surgery.
Spurred on to find a better solution, she decided to try decompression therapy and signed up for six sessions. the programme proved to be a huge success that has enabled her to stop ongoing physiotherapy, saving her hundreds of pounds in treatment costs.
She revealed: “After the first two sessions, i could tell there was a huge improvement. the pins and needles i’d experienced constantly for almost three years reduced dramatically to almost nothing. After completing the course, my condition had improved to the point where i no longer needed regular physiotherapy.”
Optispine’s lead physiotherapist, Davinder Chatha, said: “ the main culprit of back and neck pain is compression of the spine and, until now, this has been near enough impossible to treat.”
“i’m now seeing these patients in my clinic a lot less frequently as they’ve found a solution to their health issues and, best of all, improved their quality of life.”
“After specialising in spinal therapy for over 20 years, this is by far the most effective treatment for a range of painful and debilitating spinal conditions, and it has even exceeded my expectations.”

mentaL ILL HeaLtH seasonaL BLues
As a counsellor, i see a pattern in the problems clients present to me, throughout the year, that could almost be looked at as being seasonal.
it’s not quite as black and white as people suffering from depression in the winter months, anxiety in the spring, couples’ issues in the summer and teenager problems in the autumn, but there does appear to be trends associated with seasons.
for example, the new school year in September and the following few months, particularly for 14 to 18 year olds, seems to bring a larger concentration of stress and anxiety related conditions.
Christmas particularly and just after, family and relationship concerns.
April, and we see a trend forming around depression illnesses (this also coincides with the highest numbers in a month, for suicide)*
Seeing a counsellor doesn't hold the stigma it used to, thankfully. When i was growing up, if someone saw a counsellor, it was a sign of weakness, particularly if you were a man and while there is still a stigma attached to seeking mental health help, it’s much less that it was.
thankfully, we have seen a change in that way of thinking as generations come and go, meaning that for some, in fact, probably for most, counselling is now seen as a form of selfdevelopment, and in many social settings, it's encouraged. As our next generation hits the
workforce, even more will see counselling as a social norm.
that being said, the importance of counselling should not ever be underestimated. While it’s becoming increasingly socially acceptable to seek personal help that shouldn’t lessen the impact of counselling or make conditions that counselling or therapy treat, any less important.
the differing array of symptoms and conditions require different methods of counselling. these methods used are more down to the individual needs of the patient rather than the condition they present with. Some patients might respond better to CBt (Cognitive Behavioural therapy) others, Sft (Solution focused therapy) or Humanistic Counselling.

A DIARY OF EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES
spring diary
Catching up with the ever-dynamic Nick & Royston is always a highlight, and this spring, they’ve been busy making memories, attending glittering events and sharing some fabulous moments with friends. Here’s a peek into what they’ve been up to lately—and who they’ve been spending their time with!
THE BIG FINALE: A MILESTONE CELEBRATION
After a decade of unforgettable moments, The Real Housewives of Cheshire closed out its 10th season with a spectacular finale. To mark the occasion, many of the original housewives returned—including the alwaysglamorous Ampika Pickston. Having left the show in 2017, Ampika re-joined the cast for a special reunion, celebrating the iconic series’ incredible journey.
RETAIL THERAPY ON THE FRENCH RIVIERA
No one needs an excuse for a trip to the South of France, and Nick & Royston certainly didn’t hesitate when the opportunity arose to join friends Joanne and Malcolm Bridgwood for some much-needed retail therapy. With a family wedding on the horizon, Joanne was on the hunt for the perfect outfit and Nick & Royston were more than happy to offer their expert styling advice.
Their weekend was spent in the luxurious surroundings of the Carlton Hotel, Cannes, where they soaked up the sun, savoured the stunning views and indulged in some high-end shopping. After a successful shopping spree, the friends unwound at the magnificent GrandHotel du Cap-Ferrat. With panoramic views stretching from Nice to Monaco, Michelin-starred dining, a world-class spa and vibrant outdoor cabanas by the pool, it was the ultimate destination for relaxation and rejuvenation.
It was a weekend to remember—one that perfectly combined glamour, luxury and laughter.
BIRTHDAY BASH: A NIGHT IN BLACKPOOL
When close friend and former team member Nick Tucker was in London to style Gemma Collins and Claire Sweeney for a celebrity wedding, Nick & Royston seized the opportunity to plan a surprise birthday celebration. Welsh Nick had always dreamed of experiencing the iconic Funny Girls show in Blackpool, so they made it happen—turning the birthday weekend into an unforgettable trip.
True to Blackpool’s reputation, the night was filled with fun, laughter and plenty of new friendships. The weekend was a massive hit and the next trip to Blackpool is already in the diary!
WEDDING OF THE YEAR: A SPECTACULAR CELEBRATION
Nick & Royston have attended their fair share of weddings over the years, but the nuptials of Akaash and Alisha Sharma was truly something special. Invited by close friends Yogash and Bulvinder, the pair travelled to the stunning Dallas Burston Polo Club in Warwickshire to join over 400 guests for this epic celebration.
Set across 600 acres of idyllic countryside, the venue was the perfect backdrop for the bride and groom’s grand entrance—by helicopter, no less! The day was packed with show-stopping entertainment, including fire-eaters, acrobats, live bands and DJs, keeping guests entertained well into the night.
It was a day full of love and pure magic—a perfect beginning to a lifetime of happiness for the newlyweds.

METHOD
1. Heat up a little olive oil in your casserole pot and brown off all sides of the ribs. Remove
from the pot and set aside. Place the carrots, onion, garlic and celery in the pot and brown off a little then add the ribs back to the pot. make the beef stock from oxo cubes or knorr jelly pots, or make your own. (Although very time consuming).
2. Pour the beef stock and wine into the pot until it comes half way up the sides of the beef. you do not want to submerge the beef as it will fall apart. Place on the stove and bring to the boil then turn down, add in the tomato paste, thyme leaves and rosemary needles (chopped finely).
3. Season with salt and pepper, add 1 star anise and 1 tbsp of coriander seeds and simmer for about 2.5 hours checking occasionally to ensure the liquid is not reducing too much. Add a dash of water or left over wine and beef stock if any remains. Gently squeeze the beef and if it feels very tender remove it along with the carrots from the casserole and continue reducing the liquid. Keep the beef warm under parchment paper and a tea towel or in a warmer if you have one.
4. you can either leave the onions and celery in chunks or blend until smooth and return to the liquid passing through a sieve first. Reduce the liquid until it coats the back of a spoon. if it looks as though the sauce is splitting a little simply add a dash of cold water.
5. While the beef is cooking bake the potatoes until soft. Scoop out al of the potato flesh and smooth in a mixing bowl with the back of a spoon. Add the butter to melt and stir in then season with sea salt.
6. Place the beef and carrots on a baking tray and heat until the beef and carrots have browned. (About 12-15 minutes on 180oC).
7. Steam the cavolo nero for a few minutes and serve everything in a large pasta bowl if you have them.
8. Serve with a glass of red wine.

the enchanting town of Deal is nestled on the coastline of the english Channel in ‘england’s garden’; the fragrant county of Kent.
Due to an abundance of independent local retailers and a friendly ‘village’ feel, Deal retains its appeal. the town’s motto is ‘Befriend a Stranger’ and i was keen to experience a little of that Kentish charm and to take a glimpse into its rich maritime history.
in 1278 the federation of Cinque Ports was formed with the objective of uniting the ports of Dover, Hastings, New Romney, Hythe and Sandwich militarily and to simplify trade. With no harbour, Deal was considered a ‘limb port’ for Sandwich but it soon became the busiest ‘port’ in england.
Deal’s coastal waters, known as the Downs, offer a natural sheltered anchorage area for vessels seeking refuge and the little town became a strategic ‘port’ for the Royal Navy and merchant vessels.
Deal Castle, built at the behest of King Henry Viii between 1539 and 1540, is not to be missed. this imposing artillery, located on Deal’s beach front, served as a fortress in defending against the risk of attack following the coalition of the french King, françois
i, and Charles i of Spain. One of the most impressive tudor castles in england; it really is a spectacular sight.
for weary travellers seeking high levels of comfort and service, the Royal Hotel, located on Beach Street, is within a stone’s throw to the town centre and it’s the place to stay.
Originally named the King’s Arms and then renamed the three Kings in 1699; it is an impressive, quirky property, which, during the 18th century, was once used as a courtroom where the defendants were often local smugglers apprehended with contraband.
in the summer months of 1801, Napoleon Bonaparte was assembling an invasion fleet off the coast of france and Vice Admiral Lord Nelson was dispatched by the Admiralty to assess the situation. Nelson’s ship, HmS medusa, arrived in Deal on 29 July and he reserved a suite at the three Kings where he hatched a plan to tow the french ships away from their moorings and destroy them.
However, the plan failed as Napoleon’s ships were chained together and Nelson lost many men including his protégé, Captain edward thornbridge Parker.
Courtesy of Visit Kent
Nelson sent a letter to his friends Sir William Hamilton and his wife, Lady emma Hamilton, inviting them to visit Deal and to comfort the injured sailors; they promptly reserved a suite of rooms at the three Kings and extended their stay.
Sir William indulged his passion for fishing and Lady Hamilton explored the Kent countryside by carriage, escorted by Nelson. the biggest scandal of that time was about to erupt and the affair between Lord Horatio Nelson and his mistress Lady emma Hamilton provided much tittle-tattle for ladies gathering in parlours.
the three Kings was completely refurbished in 1837 and renamed the Royal Hotel in honour of Queen Victoria who ascended the throne on 20th June in the same year.
the hotel’s rooms are spacious with contemporary furnishings in light, subtle hues, soft carpeting and comfortable beds and the theme throughout the property reflects the area’s rich maritime history. i opted to stay in the elegant Nelson room, which features a roll top bath, within the room, right next to a wide window affording sweeping views across the briny. i took advantage of the furnished balcony and after a comfortable slumber i took in some deep breaths of salty
air, whilst sipping on my piping hot coffee and i was ready for a morning stroll along the promenade. Whatever you decide to do in Deal, it is sure to be a delightful experience.

there can be little doubt that the market place is currently awash with small and medium size SUV type of vehicles, and the choice is exceptional. However, Kia with the introduction of the Stonic have thrown another option into this huge market place, Writes Bob Hickman.
One advantage of the Stonic is the fact that it is on a smaller size, and if you don’t need a huge amount of space, this could be worth a look at. in addition, in and round town, if that is where you do most of your driving, the Stonic scores in profusion small parking spaces and in and out of awkward car parks is where it scores bonus points.
from a driving perspective the amount of space in the front for me as a 6-footer was
more than adequate with a multi-adjustable seat and steering wheel, however rear space i would suggest just 2 adults or 2 children you certainly wouldn’t be using this vehicle for a 5-passenger vehicle.
the Stonic has a choice of 2 trim levels, Gt Line or Gt Line S, i had the top specification Gt Line S. the engine for this particular vehicle was a diminutive 998cc and many years ago we would never have conserved an engine this small on a vehicle of this size but it produced 98bhp, drove through a wonderful 7-speed automatic gearbox and had a top speed of marginally over 100 mph and a 0 to 60 in 12 seconds. Kia suggests a combined fuel figure of 49.6 mpg and on several occasions, i saw 52mpg on the computer.
it was always a pleasant car to drive, it was nippy, performed well in and round town and if you happen to hit the motorway it would contend with it but it did feel a little stressed at times. to drive in and around town and park was a delight, all the range come with rear parking sensors and my particular derivative had a rear parking camera which does help and make life a lot easier.
i did like with the Stonic the ease of being able to find everything you need. the 8” infotainment touchscreen is standard on all the ranges, and even on mine it had Apple Car Play and Android Auto. the specification also included a built in sat nav which worked well. All the Stonic range have air conditioning, electric windows, and on mine a reversing camera, privacy glass and heated front seats and steering wheel, i do like the lay out, it was
very simple, easy to understand and there was a plethora of information available, but most of it was controlled by buttons on the steering wheel which is commendable for Kia none of the distraction of taking your eyes off the road and looking at the screen or even stretching to touch a screen.
the Kia brand has been around now for some time and they have built a reputation for building cars that are reliable and pleasant to look at and without doubt they much be confident to have a 7-year, 100,00 miles warranty so you do know during your ownership you have peace of mind.
the Kia Stonic Gt-Line S comes with the brilliant Kia 7 year warranty and has/ an on the road price of £26,040.
BuY-to-Let: Dream Investment or HIDDen HeaDacHe?
Property has long held a special appeal. Buy-to-let, in particular, is often seen as a smart path to passive income. But is it really that simple? the reality is, managing rental properties can be demanding—and success often comes down to timing and a bit of luck.
there’s comfort in bricks and mortar, and many feel confident borrowing to invest in something tangible. But behind the appeal are hidden costs and risks. High rental yields may look tempting, but they rarely account for repairs, maintenance, insurance, and empty periods. Around 30% to 35% of your rental income can be eaten up by these expenses— and that’s before tax.
Getting started isn’t cheap either. Stamp duty, legal fees, and refurbishments add up quickly. When it’s time to sell, there are agent fees and capital gains tax to consider. that “passive” income? it can quickly feel like a part-time job.
Some investors view property as an alternative to low-interest savings accounts. But it’s important to remember that buy-to-let is more like running a business—with all the associated financial risks.
Borrowing amplifies gains, but also losses. And while UK property prices have generally
risen, they’ve seen significant falls during downturns.
meanwhile, other investment options like pensions or stocks and shares iSAs offer tax benefits and the potential for solid, long-term returns—without the maintenance hassles. A traditional investment portfolio, even after fees, can often outperform a buy-to-let strategy.
in the end, property can still be a part of a successful financial plan—but it’s no magic bullet. Like any investment, it requires research, planning, and a clear-eyed view of the risks. Whether you’re drawn to real estate or more traditional investments, making informed choices is the key to building longterm wealth.
