Autumn and Winter 2023 trends www.jennifersuzanne.co.uk 07977330011

Our Home My top 2023 trend tips to make your home look fabulous this winter!

that contemporary statement.

Vintage, secondhand and furniture up cycling

Now that the seasonal chill has set in and the stormy wet weather returns, homeowners are now spending more time indoors. Here are my top favourite winter design trends and how to make your property feel warm and snug with inspirational décor tips.

Designers are sourcing second hand furniture and existing furniture and up cycling it to make it feel like a new furniture piece. I love to up cycling if possible and I love the client’s appreciation of how these items can bring warmth and soul to their homes. It’s always a fun journey to up cycle a furniture piece, I re-design it by selecting a new paint scheme, adding stencils and on lays, updating the handles and adding legs if the furniture benefits from added height. I also love to add fabric and wallpapers inserts and mirror for that added extra designer touch. I use a professional up cycler and look how amazing this upcycled drink cabinet is, it’s a real wow factor to have in your home.

Earthy & Cool Colour A good foundation of winter interiors starts with colour scheme and the addition of fabrics to complement. At Jennifer Suzanne Interiors, I spend a considerable amount of thought on researching the perfect colour scheme and fabrics for my client’s concept designs. In 2023 neutral shades of oatmeal and caramel are emerging as the new trends to soften up the ‘neutral grey trend’ and these earthy colours fit well with wood accents, plants and natural fabrics to bring the outdoor feel indoors, making it cosy and welcoming. Adding a touch of vibrancy with spice colours, such as cinnamon shades, add richness to the winter months.

Also clients are considering how they can make there homes as environmentally friendly as possible and are choosing to ask me as there designer to source either second hand or up cycle or upholster and this helps the environment by less furniture going into landfill. Need advice of up cycling project please get in touch via my contact details.

Another colour trend of autumn into winter are cool ocean blue coastal colours such as deep blue shades, indigo and royal blue to add to the winter contemporary atmosphere. These blue shades look great paired with wood accents and plants and textured neutral accessories.

Coffee Stations - seasonal styling I am obsessed with storage and organization in the home and one of my favourite designer touches for autumn into winter is building unique storage for spaces that are just unused and unloved areas.

Winter Layers and textures Just as we would layer up or clothes to keep warm to brave the cold out doors, same goes for layering up your home ready for winter. Adding floor rugs, cushions and throw blankets and curtains over blinds to create a cosy environment during the winter months.

I love the latest seasonal trends in kitchen such as a dedicated purpose built hot drinks station and with everything you need to make and serve that perfect, coffee or hot chocolate. If struggling for a drinks space you could try using a kitchen trolley or adding a freestanding cabinet.

Think about fabric textures as well as keeping to your chosen décor. Choose luxurious fabrics such as velvets, wool, faux fur and I love the addition of a boucle fabric to add in 9

Our Home Now for the fun bit… Coffee station styling.

Adding open wall shelves for added storage for your coffee cups and style up your shelves with seasonal decorative items. Wine racks are great for storing coffee syrups and installing drawer dividers to help keep coffee, tea bags and equipment well organized.

Choose your favourite café style are you a lover of natural or prefer a sleek look combine this with your accessories, if you need inspiration or a helping hand to source all of this from building bespoke station or styling pieces please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Choosing your coffee equipment, make sure you choose your machine to suit your lifestyle and to make sure that your equipment fits the surface area.

When I started looking at Jewellery, I was blown away by the beautiful photography created by Swarovski, I hope you love it as much as me! Jewel tones are always gorgeous in the Winter, along with the fabulous fabrics, velvet, leather and wool create lush results, add metallics to these super rich tones and layer in one colour as M&S to create sophistication with ease. Chunky heels are key in strappy styles, add the flower necktie from The Decorum for a bit of boho chic! 24

Roar Power I am loving all the gilt on the High St, it’s even painted on denim, which is a funky way to wear the trend, add subtle animal prints like the bow tie blouse from Reiss and the fabulous croc bag from New Look. I saw the gold bomber jacket on a 50+ lady I follow on Instagram and instantly wanted it! The gold slingback from Zara is such a useful shoe, whether you wear them with shiny jeans, a smart trouser or a dress they would be a fantastic new accessory to your wardrobe. Snake is my favourite animal print, so I love the shirt dress from Reiss. 25

Precious Metal Silver is definitely sticking around as our favourite precious metal, the silver trousers from The Decorum have my name all over them. Both of the dresses would be perfect for upcoming parties, add the platform heels and super glam bag from Kurt Geiger, what’s not to love. M&S have some great pieces again this season, make sure you take a look, add the boots from arket. com to the sequin flares plus the metallic biker from Zara and you will definitely turn a few heads.

I’ve chosen different options for various events you might be going to, the perfect shirt and trouser from M&S, add the loafer from Next and the coat from Reiss, absolutely stunning! Zara have collaborated with designer Steven Meisel and created a very eclectic collection, I love these shoes. Lipsy dresses are wonderful, fabulous shapes, fabrics and styles, a definite go to for a flattering dress. I love the strapless dress from antropologie.com, but equally the jumpsuit from meandem.com, very different, but both very sassy! What does Winter mean to you? With the change in the weather and longer evenings Winter is a season cherished by many but not looked forward to by others! For those of us with good hearing the sound of crackling fires, carol singers and the crunch of footsteps on a frosty morning are easy to take for granted. The most important thing is to enjoy the company of friends and family during the festive season and create special memories. If you can’t hear as well as you used to this can be a challenge.

How can we help?

How can you help yourself?

We can test your hearing for FREE!

Position yourself: Choose a seat that has it’s back to a wall wherever possible. This will help to reduce the effect of background noise. Good lighting will also help you focus on the people speaking

Our expert audiologists and earcare specialists are on hand to offer great, friendly advice and look after you and your ears.

Relax: Anxiety and stress can make it harder to concentrate, try to stay relaxed

Limit the numbers: with a hearing loss it becomes very difficult to follow group conversations. Try to stick to small groups so you won’t feel left out

We can check your ears for earwax and remove it for you safely and effectively in our clinic using the very best equipment considered to be the gold standard in earcare

If you need advice on the latest hearing aid technology, appropriate assisted listening devices or how to connect to your mobile phone, we can help!

Use your hearing aids if you have them – you should try to wear your hearing aids as much as possible not just for those occasions when you think you might need them! The biggest mistake people make is to pick and choose when they wear their hearing aids, it simply won’t work and you’ll be left feeling disappointed when you really want to hear. Your brain needs to be well trained to be able to listen, this can take time.

Don’t be left out of those special Christmas conversation this year, we can help. Contact us on today on;

Mental Ill Health Seasonal Blues Hilary Sims - Life Balance

As a counsellor, I see a pattern in the problems clients present to me, throughout the year, that could almost be looked at as being seasonal.

workforce, even more will see counselling as a social norm. That being said, the importance of counselling should not ever be underestimated. While it’s becoming increasingly socially acceptable to seek personal help that shouldn’t lessen the impact of counselling or make conditions that counselling or therapy treat, any less important.

It’s not quite as black and white as people suffering from depression in the winter months, anxiety in the spring, couples’ issues in the summer and teenager problems in the autumn, but there does appear to be trends associated with seasons.

The differing array of symptoms and conditions require different methods of counselling. These methods used are more down to the individual needs of the patient rather than the condition they present with. Some patients might respond better to CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) others, SFT (Solution Focused Therapy) or Humanistic Counselling.

For example, the new school year in September and the following few months, particularly for 14 to 18 year olds, seems to bring a larger concentration of stress and anxiety related conditions. Christmas particularly and just after, family and relationship concerns. April, and we see a trend forming around depression illnesses (this also coincides with the highest numbers in a month, for suicide)*

Seeing a counsellor doesn't hold the stigma it used to, thankfully. When I was growing up, if someone saw a counsellor, it was a sign of weakness, particularly if you were a man and while there is still a stigma attached to seeking mental health help, it’s much less that it was.

Thankfully, we have seen a change in that way of thinking as generations come and go, meaning that for some, in fact, probably for most, counselling is now seen as a form of selfdevelopment, and in many social settings, it's encouraged. As our next generation hits the 32

DUCK & TURKEY THIGH TERRINE WITH PICKLED WALNUT This makes a great starter for your Christmas lunch or for a cold tea with cold meats, cheese, pickles and chutney.

you can take the skins off without burning your fingers. Put the skins back in the oven to crsipen up.

Serves: 6

Shred the turkey and duck into a mixing bowl with a small ladle of the goose fat, chopped parsley, chopped pickled walnuts and chop the cooked shallots into the mix too. If the mix seems a little dry just add more goose fat until it appears glossy.

Ingredients 500g of duck legs - skin on 350g of turkey thigh - skin on 100g shallots 4 garlic cloves 1 star anise Thyme Flat leaf parsley Pickled walnuts Pancetta slice

Line the terrine with cling film, use butter to line the tin to help the cling film stick to the sides. Press the meat mixture into the terrine or any rectangular container will do. It is just to set the meat into a shape easy to slice. Chop and sprinkle the crispy skin over the top of the terrine and place in the fridge over night. When ready to eat just pop out of the mould and slice into 2 cm slices.

METHOD:

TO SERVE:

Place the whole peeled shallots, duck legs and turkey thigh in a roasting tin with enough goose fat to cover the meat, about a litre should be enough, add a sprig of thyme, 1 star anise and 4 garlic cloves cover with foil and cook for 3.5hrs at 110oC. Check the meat after about 2.5 hours as all ovens are different and yours could be ready sooner. Once out of the oven allow to cool down enough so

Serve with bitter leaves, fig chutney (available on my website takefood.co.uk/recipes-andstories/), a few slices of leftover pickled walnuts and a dark cereal bread toasted. I use pumpernickel but a walnut loaf would be great.

From Rugby fan to Rugby player My earliest memory of rugby was going with my mum and little brother to watch my dad play. We would go to pretty much all of his games, every Saturday, whether he was playing or a team coach. The highlight of the day would be me getting a cone of chips after the match. Eventually, I went on to become a team mascot for my his team. I remember walking out to the middle of the pitch holding on to the captains massive hand, and then joining in for the team photos. I first started playing rugby at high school in year 8. It was the very basics of rugby as most of the girls hadn't played before. We played until we had to stop to concentrate on our GCSE's. My dad stopped playing and switched back to coaching women’s rugby at Stourbridge Panthers 3 years ago. A couple of seasons ago I decided that I wanted to start playing again. I began by going to watch matches and training sessions, firstly to test the waters and after a few weeks I felt ready to play in matches. I had caught the Rugby-Bug again. I'm now into my 2nd season and I can feel my confidence building.

I recommend anyone to try it, it doesn't have to be Stourbridge Panthers, visit your local rugby club. They will be pleased to have you involved as a fan or a player, plus everything in between. I'm Abi Lewis, Blindside Stourbridge Panther!

Winter weddings

many venue will not allow a naked flame (if not, don’t worry, you can use storm lanterns which when wreathed in winter foliage look just the part).

There is nothing more romantic than a winter wedding. Snow on the ground, frost in the air and tree bowers dripping with frozen crystals while inside is warm and cosy with glowing open fires, twinkling candlelight and fulsome winter foliage.

When booking the venue take care to avoid any cold-weather mishaps. Make sure that people can actually get to the venue and that there is sufficient parking. If your wedding or reception is in a remote area do leave enough time in the agenda for people to get to the destination in case of bad weather that might slow them down. It might be worth considering having your ceremony and reception at the same venue, saving your guests any travel trouble if there is bad weather.

It used to be that winter was considered the “off season” but venues have now wised up to the fact that it is a popular time of year to marry so the prices can be the same as peak season especially, the week between Christmas and New Year. So if you are planning a winter wedding then it is best to embrace the season and use what is readily available to you. Make sure your venue works in the winter Obviously if you are planning a winter wedding then you should view the venue in the winter to see if it works well in the colder months. If you are attracted to venues that offer open fires with large ornate fireplaces to enhance the wintery theme, do ask then venue manager when you are viewing if the fires are working and can be lit. It is also worth checking whether you can have candles as

Check with the venue to make sure that there is sufficient matting at the entrance point so that guests can wipe their shoes and not tread slushy footprints into the venue. Look for a venue that has plenty of space between the main entrance and the access to the reception room. That way, you’ll keep the indoor environment toasty and warm. 44

Our Weddings In the cold then guests will have coats and scarves so make sure that the venue has a cloakroom (and if possible a cloak room attendant) so that guests can leave they belongings safely. Hotels will have sufficient heating but it might be worth checking that other venues such as marquees or church halls have heating in place. Conversely when the disco starts up it can get rather hot and sticky, check with the venue manager to see if the heating can be reduced in that particular area.

Decoration There are plenty of ways to decorate your venue to create a warm and cosy atmosphere. With the sun setting early in the winter months, candles and crystals will add to wintery romance to any venue setting. To add to the ambience, consider bringing in lush, soft textures. Deep red velvety roses set amongst dark green foliage such a holly (especially with the red berries) will add a touch of luxury to the setting. Enhance this with wide velvet ribbon which you can tie around napkins or candles centrepieces. You could even tie the ribbon to the chairs and hang themed decorations such a wooden hearts of crystal snowflakes.

Accessories If you still want to wear shoulder-baring strapless gowns or slinky sheaths you will need to think carefully about your accessories so that you can keep warm and avoid shivering your way through your photography session while still looking fabulous in your dress. Envelop yourself in a stole or find a warm shawl or cashmere wrap for a look that exudes a charming winter style and essentially, keeps you warm. Look to the more substantial fabrics such as velvet or faux fur to complement your gown and embellish your winter wonderland look.

What to wear If ever there was an excuse to use vibrant colours such as forest greens, deep crimsons and brilliant whites then certainly winter is the season to do so. You can also use heavier fabrics such a velvet or sensual silk satins. If you want lace look for the heavier variety like Battenberg lace which is more substantial and will keep you warmer. The best part of winter wedding fashion is that you can indulge in luxurious full skirts without the fear of getting too hot or weighed down with the extra fabric. Choose a style of dress that has sleeves for extra protection and warmth. ¾ sleeves in particular can look very feminine.

For shoes, go for a close-toed style (strappy heels could be hazardous in snow) as there might be ice or even worse slush on the ground. Why not have a pair of white boots which will peep out from under you dress but keep you sure footed. You could always change into the heels once you are safely at the reception venue. It may be an idea to have a pair of white snow boots that you can change in and out of to travel between venues - fun for the photographs too! 45

Our Weddings Add gloves for a touch of Hollywood glamour. Choose a colour that complements your flowers or theme. Perhaps dress your groom in a slick suit and add a scarf in the same colour as your gloves to match the wedding colour theme.

sheer decadence, serve a white hot chocolate with marshmallow dips. For the favours you could have pots of homemade hedgerow jam for the girls and jars of chutney or pickle for the boys. Or bag up snowflake shortbread biscuits piped in white icing and tied with ribbon your wedding colours.

Winter Treats Winter weddings give you the opportunity to serve your guests something quite different and very seasonal. Serve an alternative reception drink such a mulled wine served with mini mince pie or Winter Pimms with gingerbread men decorated in white piped icing to resemble the bride or groom. For

With careful planning you can enjoy all the usual wedding traditions bundled up in a festive winter theme with unique elements to set your wedding apart from the norm. You and your guests will be rosy cheeked, them from the mulled wine and you from the flush of love...

A mini-break in Bucharest by Rebecca Underwood, Travel Journalist

Courtesy of Alexey Kutelev

constructed during the rule of Vlad III Dracula in the 15th century, to the Mogosoaia Palace, a fine example of Romanian Renaissance architecture and once a popular meeting place in the 1930s for prominent politicians and international society.

Bucharest, Romania’s bustling capital, features open boulevards shaded by canopies of leafy trees and an intriguing mix of neoclassical, medieval and art nouveau buildings. This enchanting city offers her fortunate guests a fascinating glimpse into a rich and colourful tapestry of art, history and culture.

I then made my way to the Lipscani district, a meandering maze of streets, which reflect an affluent air of a bygone era in the 1400s, when blacksmiths, furriers and cobblers vied for passing trade on the narrow cobblestone streets. Today, the area houses intriguing antique shops and bustling art galleries and with the enticing aroma of the local coffee houses hanging in the air, stop for a shot of caffeine and a pastry before continuing your journey.

Nestled on the banks of the Dâmbovița River, Bucharest attracts visitors from all over the world, keen to experience life in the city, known as the ‘Paris of the East’ in the 1900s. The locals are proud of their very own Arc de Triomphe, built in 1922, in memory of fallen compatriots, lost in WW1, and the Romanian Athenaeum building, included on the list of European Heritage sites; is a very popular venue, which presents classical music concerts and is home to the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra.

I headed for the rectangular courtyard known as Hanul cu Tei and was mesmerised by an abundance of quirky shops, again brimming with art and antiques. Even the most resistant will be persuaded to browse for hours and ultimately to part with a substantial sum of Romanian Leu.

For a glimpse of history, I took a leisurely stroll along Victory Avenue, named after the 1877 – 1878 Russo Turkish war, when Romania, fighting with the Russians, gained independence from the Ottoman Empire. The road was originally built with oak beams in 1692 linking Old Princely Court, a residence 52

Our Travel After exploring, I needed to recuperate. For a taste of luxury, the Marmorosch Hotel, which is located within a stone’s throw from Bucharest’s Old Town, is ideal. Surrounded by captivating boutiques, buzzing cafes and restaurants, this ornate property, which housed Romania’s most influential bank during the 19th century, has retained many of its grand features. Accommodations are inspired by the Art Deco style, and are spacious, elegant and comfortable. Tall ceilings, rich furnishings, wide windows offering spectacular views and all draped in luxurious fabrics, ensure that the guest feels relaxed and pampered.

Marmarosch Lobby

Facilities include an exquisite spa with an indoor pool, which is the perfect spot to unwind after investigating the city’s many attractions. Bucharest, an ideal destination for a city break, is bursting with life, and offers a veritable kaleidoscope of Romanian history, culture, art and music. Consider taking a Romanian weekend break, you won’t be disappointed. Images provided with the kind permission of Marriott Hotels

What Does Your Christmas Tree Say About You? This year, it’s estimated that about 10.6 million Christmas trees, both farmed and artificial, will be sold in the UK.

Many of the decorations will hold great sentimental value to the owner, evoking memories of family days gone by, and decorating the tree is always an annual family affair, with great value placed on input from family members, both young and old.

Artificial Christmas tree sales hot up on October 30, with sales peaking in the first week of December. Most Christmas trees are up and fully decorated by December 4.

This tree owner loves Christmas tradition and thrives on the chaos associated with the festive season. Christmas allows them to shine as brightly as the star on top of their tree. With their exceptional organisational skills, they produce superb Christmas fare, enough to feed an army, all executed with military precision, of course. Their natural warmth and flair for entertaining comes to the fore at Christmas time.

Robert Dyas has its best selection of Christmas trees this year both in-store and online, including an impressive 7-ft LED pre-lit tree, a variety of ‘real feel’ trees, plus fibre optic wonders. Jodie Harris, known as the Robert Dyas Head Elf, has looked into its best-selling Christmas trees and identified what a person’s Christmas tree says about them. The Head Elf says: “Christmas trees are the focal point of virtually every home. We’ve listened to our shoppers and have noted some frequently recurring traits.”

The Alpinist

The Natural Wholesome Tree Lover

Christmas is an all-round sensory experience for the sensual ‘alpinist tree’ lover. This snowdusted Christmas creation inspires thoughts of cosy log cabins, snow-covered slopes and the heavenly aroma of pinecones burning on an open fire. Alpinists are excited by the ‘real feel’ technology of this exquisite tree.

With abundant dark green foliage and often decorated in traditional red, green and gold, the ‘natural wholesome Christmas tree’ – like its owner – represents solid family values and the true generous spirit of Christmas. This tree is the heart of the home and is a timeless classic.

The ‘alpinist tree’ owner loves the great outdoors and seeks to recreate their alpine fantasy indoors. They dream of spending the festive season skiing across glistening snowcovered slopes before returning to their luxurious ski chalet with cheeks aglow. Their 56

Our Christmas idea of heaven is wearing a chunky jumper and sinking into the sofa whilst sipping on mulled wine and feasting on roasted chestnuts with their loved ones gathered all around. For the Alpinist, Christmas is like living in a winter wonderland Christmas card. It is all about immersing themselves in the pictureperfect magical atmosphere of the season.

Christmas Party People A tall, slim, striking ice-white Christmas tree makes a bold statement. Like their owners, these splendid trees display total design confidence with their ultra-modern take on the festive season. A pure white tree makes for a stunning centrepiece at any Christmas party and these trees are ideally suited to someone who enjoys being the star of the show. Christmas party people are vibrant and fun loving, especially around the festive season and this fantastically coloured tree expresses their blithe spirit.

Christmas. The ‘minimalist tree’ will typically be found in a pristine home environment, such as an uber-cool urban apartment. Christmas is a chic monochromatic affair run with clockwork efficiency and the sheer simplicity is representative of the smooth running and fuss-free existence of the ‘minimalist tree’ lover.

But be warned: do not attempt to offer any décor advice! ‘Party people tree lovers’ are notoriously possessive about their trees and decorating rights are strictly exclusive to the owner. Baubles are always colour coordinated and precision in placement is key to the creation of this masterpiece.

Christmas dinner might comprise a sophisticated tray of sushi rather than a traditional Christmas turkey with all its trimmings and paraphernalia. The ‘minimalist Christmas tree’ deliberately lacks any adornment with not a bauble in sight! This tree is all about restraint in design and is perhaps the preferred choice of individuals who work in the fields of architecture or interior design.

White Christmas trees are very much on trend, appealing mostly to a younger generation of Instgrammers and Snapchatters setting up home for the first time.

Minimalist The most understated, yet stunningly stylish tree belongs to the minimalists. Like their owners, their appearance is elegant, streamlined and super-sleek.

This tree is also favoured by people with very little time on their hands to spend decorating and those who might be going away over Christmas but want to demonstrate their Christmas spirit.

There is no clutter and chaos associated with the high-gloss experience of a minimalist 57

Kia Niro reasonable range suggested as being 64mpg on a combined petrol and electric mode. The 6-speed dual clutch transmission is a delight and always seemed able to select the correct gear for the circumstances. The jury is still out on pure EV, with a hybrid you don’t need to worry about running out of that all important battery power. It is interesting to note that with the EV model you can get 80% charge capacity in just 13 minutes, if you use a huge rapid charger, my issue is with the shortage of charging points.

Kia’s SUV model the Niro has been one of their better selling models for a few years, writes Bob Hickman. No manufacturer can afford to stand still and 2023 sees the launch of a new variant of the Niro. The buyer has a choice between buying a pure hybrid, a plug-in hybrid or a pure electric powertrain. There are 3 variable grades to choose from, my test vehicle was the hybrid which is a concept of a petrol engine allied to batteries underneath the rear seats to give the EV electric vehicle mode when it is possible and then the petrol engine seamlessly kicks in to motion.

The driving dynamics of the Niro was about friendly, comfortable companion, almost like that pair of slippers or that cardigan that you don’t want to get rid of, nothing exciting and not tremendously different, it just does all you want it to do. Slip in to the driver’s seat and you immediately notice the plethora of controls on the steering wheel which I like, I am not a fan of the touchscreens in the middle of the dashboard, you have to avert your eyes so often to control. I particularly like just a one click action changes from maps to a

This new derivative is 65mms longer, 20mms wider and a little taller with a longer wheelbase. I particularly like the smart alloy wheel designs for the hybrid and a unique one for the EV. The powertrain for the Niro consists of a 1.6 litre petrol engine and it is paired to either a 43 bhp or 83bhp electric motor. This gives quite a 60

multitude of other issues that you can control. The driver’s seat was multi-adjustable and on mine it moved backwards automatically to allow me to get out and when I got in, I pressed a button and it reverted back to its previous position.

Without doubt the new Niro is an even more practical vehicle, it has a great identity, the exterior is now stylish and eye catching in some respects. The excellent levels of standard equipment and the multitude of choices between pure electric, hybrid or plugin hybrid make it a desirable option.

As you would expect there was an awful lot of equipment fitted to the vehicle, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera I think are necessary and essential now, blind spot collision avoidance on the higher grade, and also parking collision avoidance, a smart phone charging on the top 2 grades is available and of course one of the most important features of Kia is their free 7-year warranty system.

The performance figures, for those who like to be made aware, it has a claimed top speed of 100mph and a 0-60 in just under 11 seconds, the combined figure is given as 60mpg, although the computer suggested, I achieved mid-60’s on a lot of occasions.

The interior space is considerably good, front passenger and driver have ample leg, head and shoulder room and the rear passengers would not be too disappointed with the amount of space that they have. The boot

The important CO2 (g/km) is given at 106. My particular Kia Niro HEV 4 had an on the road price of £34,660.

Tesco Bag Economics’ To me, the phrase ‘Tesco Bag Economics’ symbolises life today. We live in a world where life is so fast and cluttered that we do not take the time to appreciate what we have and plan. We don’t fully understand what we have, nor do we take the time to pause and reflect. We don’t plan enough for the future.

Siobhan Record Our Lifestyle’s Financial Expert

review it again (which should be on a regular basis with your financial planner). Think about how having the right people helping you with the right planning will ease the worry of product statements landing on your doorstep and cluttering your mind. A good financial planner will take the time to explain what you have and how well it fits in to your long-term planning.

Think of the paperwork that comes through your letterbox or inbox on your computer in relation to all the plans and products that you may have – pension, investments, bank statements, life cover etc (and not to mention monthly expenditure). How many of these are realistically pushed into a folder, a drawer, or even a Tesco bag, and then put in a safe place to be reviewed later? Be honest – how many of these plans are actually forgotten about?

If you are already on this path, you should feel good about it and evangelise! Think of the peace of mind you have, the reduced paper mountain. By investing some time to bite the bullet you will experience positive returns and peace of mind that will hopefully last your entire life. Remember that a lot of plans does not constitute a lot of planning. So empty that Tesco Bag now and remember – every little helps!

The question now is – how often do you worry about these things? What you are doing is eating into your own quiet time and eroding your own mental wellbeing thus making it harder to appreciate life and what is going on around you.

At Cre8 our systematic approach to investing means our portfolios are low cost, well diversified and we help you limit portfolio change. My advice is to proverbially grasp the nettle! Get it organised and reviewed as soon as possible – begin your journey to proper financial planning! Then forget about it. Get on with whatever it is you want to be doing and only think about it when you are set to

Preparing Your Business for Christmas Christmas is crucial for businesses, with a significant spike in profit. Early planning is essential, as indicated by John Lewis, revealing a doubled search for ‘Christmas gifts’ in August 2023 compared to 2022. Approximately 28% and 30% of customers initiated festive shopping in August and completed it by October end, respectively.

charges, incorporating special offers. Previous year's pricing can guide your decisions. With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, prices might increase, necessitating an assessment of the impact on sales and customers. Seek expert advice if contemplating a price increase.

Early Planning for Sales Maximization

For additional holiday staff, plan the recruitment process timing. While large retailers commence in August with October application deadlines, smaller businesses can start later but should anticipate competition for staff. Utilize recruitment tools and services including agencies, job boards, LinkedIn, or social media platforms targeting younger applicants. Employee recommendations are also valuable. For recruitment-related legal assistance, consult employment law support services.

Seasonal Staff Recruitment

Prepare for the holidays with these steps to ensure profitable outcomes.

Financial Review Increased expenses during Christmas are inevitable, encompassing seasonal recruitment, stock acquisition, marketing, order delivery, returns management, and client gifting. Ensure fund availability to cover these costs. Collaborate with your accountant for cash flow management, determining necessary funds. Analysing last year's expenses offers insight, but consider potential variations in this year’s costs. Develop a budget, addressing cash flow gaps possibly through external funding.

How TaxAssist Accountants Support You TaxAssist Accountants offer expert advice for business support during the festive season, specializing in tax, accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll. We also facilitate connections with our partner providers for additional support.

Conclusion

Early planning is vital for stock sourcing during Christmas. It guarantees required stock availability, exclusive product securing, and a competitive edge. Inventory finance is an option for funding additional stock, where inventory serves as collateral for quick fund access. This finance, inclusive of interest and charges, is repayable upon stock sale. Consult your accountant for suitable funding methods.

Ensuring a successful and profitable Christmas season for your business requires meticulous planning and strategy in various areas, including finances, stock, pricing, and staffing. Following these guidelines and seeking expert advice where needed will position your business for success during the most profitable time of the year.

Holiday Pricing Strategy Effective pricing is fundamental during Christmas. Determine product and service 64
